    I’m starting my sugar free journey yesterday. My lowest of low was ordering 5lbs of sour patch kids and finishing them in 3 days. this addiction has got to stop

      I started my sugar free journey the other day. I’m with you. Unlearning 30 years of sugar filled eating habits is going to hard to tackle but i know I’m not alone

      I recommend storing in the fridge and it should last up to 2 months or more!

    Hi Janelle,
    I really appreciate the efforts and energy you put to make this video to teach us, thank you.
    I have a question please, a friend of mine was advice to stop all Sugar in take, because she has cancer.
    So is Dates a sugar family since it taste so sweet please? Or she can take this Dates syrup instead please? Thanks

    • @steamyvegan
      @steamyvegan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Naomi! Thanks for watching and for your comment. Dates do still contain natural sugars (and quite a lot), but they’re a whole food source and have not been refined like table sugar. Dates contain high amounts of minerals, vitamins and fibre which makes them a much better alternative to sugar/sweeteners, plus the fibre in them helps your blood sugar not to spike when eaten. I don’t know what affect sugars have on your friend who has cancer (very sorry to hear this, by the way) but it’s perhaps worth her mentioning to her treating physicians when discussing her diet changes.
      Hope that helps! 😉

      You can use date paste and syrup as a natural sweetener in almost anything. Baked goods, oatmeal, smoothies. 😉

    Can you please share some things you use the paste for?

    • @steamyvegan
      @steamyvegan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've added the paste while my oatmeal is cooking, put it in baked goods to replace sugar and also the need for oil, I've spread it on toast, there's many yummy things that can be done with the paste ☺️

      There’s lots of non dairy milks you can use for cereal, baking and more. Almond, oat, cashew, soy, coconut 😉

    After you made the date paste. Could you dehydrate the paste to make date sugar?

    • @steamyvegan
      @steamyvegan  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's an interesting question. I've never tried this but I would assume you could, but maybe it would be easier to dehydrate the date syrup and not the paste as all the fibre's been removed from the syrup.

    • @farrellvanessa
      @farrellvanessa 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Was wondering the same. I'm going to give that a try for sure. Will spread it in a thin layer on my dehydrator tray:)

    Does turning dates into paste or syrup change the glycemic index by removing some or all of the fiber?

    • @steamyvegan
      @steamyvegan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't believe so! From what I understand date syrup still has a lower glycemic index than most other sugars and sweeteners.

    Hi could i use date syrup only not the dates to make pound cake because i do not want to use sugar please let me know and how much date syrup aprox for my pound cake thank you

    • @steamyvegan
      @steamyvegan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I’ve never made pound cake before, but I would think that you could certainly use date syrup for sweetener. If you’re recipe calls for a granulated sweetener however, you will need to add more flour or dry ingredients if you’re going to use a liquid sweetener like date syrup in place of sugar.

      The sugar in dates preserves the syrup through osmotic pressure.
