The Extraterrestrial Highway runs 90 miles across a remote part of Nevada and crosses famous locations like Area 51 and the black mailbox. The highway is beautiful and has a stark landscape with large mountains on each side. My dad and I spent a day driving from Tonopah to Crystal Springs and had a blast exploring this unique part of the state. Here is our full road trip and let us know what you think in the comments.

I hadn't heard of the Extraterrestrial Highway until I took my 13 year old son with me on a 3 week road trip. He was looking through a road atlas and spotted the highway. He was really excited and told me all about it including the Black mailbox. So, what was a dad to do? I'm glad that he got to see it in person.

Nevada is such an underrated state in terms of beautiful scenery, especially in winter, Nevada is Spanish for "snow-capped" and if you ever drive through rural Nevada outside of Las Vegas/Clark County you can really see how the state got its name. Northern Nevada especially north of US-50 is like a dreamscape in the winter time. US-50/I-80 through Nevada in the winter is truly one of the most underrated drives in the US. The views of the snow-capped mountains are just breathtaking. Thanks for sharing this. The small town of Rachel is awesome, the Little A'Le'Inn is definitely worth a stop on the highway! Shhhh... there's nothing outside Vegas and Reno- just rocks, cacti, burros, and an occasional haunted ghost town- no need for anyone to leave their cities. Ho hum... off to collect rocks 😂⚒
Just love your channel and the casual but very thorough explanations. The photography is amazing and it is SO great that you get to travel with "pops". You both seem to be the nicest people. So appreciate that your channel is family friendly and that you don't feel as though you have to act like a 7th grader always having to have every moment being EPIC. Looks like you and Pops had a lot fun. It is a lot of open desert. We always took Highway 93 outside of Vegas on our way to Idaho. The desert has its own beauty all its own
If you would have gone past the warning sign, down the road just a little bit you would have seen the gate. People go to the gate all the time.

Had never heard of this highway, another interesting video! Yep, Pops outdid himself this time. That was awesome and hysterically funny!!!
We did this last Sept. It's a really fun excursion, the roads have many forks so it's hard to get to the right spot, we finally made it to the front gate but it took some driving to find it. We did see the white pick-up gaurding the gate on top of a bluff. that's great advice to fill up before you head there, we almost were running out of gas and i was nervous about getting back to a gas station. Loved the vid!

I did this trip! My trip was a big loop from Vegas going up the west side of Area 51 up to Tonapah and then coming back down on the east side the way you came. About 9 hours total with stops. Awesome day trip. I loved Rachel and the owner of the Inn. Great times! Awesome video!

This is one of my favorite drives. I’ve stayed at the Mitzpah but not the Clown Motel yet. Stayed at the Little A’le’inn twice. Tons of fun.

Thanks for the memories my husband and I took that trip in 2006 we were told you can rent a trailer at Rachael for a night or ? If you go on a full moon night you can actually read the newspaper sitting out by the firePit because of the moon and all the stars you will see. We always wanted to do that unfortunately my husband got sick in 2008 passed from that illness in 2014 and we never made it. But your trip really brought me so much joy remembering when we were there. Really I love all your road trips thank you so much for all the happy times

I've driven past both ends of Hwy 373. One year we drove the motorhome from Ely to Tonopah on Hwy 6 and many other times drove Hwy 93 and then Hwy 318 past the junction.
To be honest, it is a good thing that you didn't go beyond that "Warning" sign. The security, aka "Camo Dudes" (because of the camoflage uniform they wear) will detain you, impound your vehicle, and hand you over to the local police.

Such a " funtastic " video! So very glad Pop's was able to escape the aliens!
Great video!!! Just a heads up, the Area 51 sign you saw is just preparing you to not cross the actual boundary. I can speak from experience. We stopped at that sign for a few minutes and then my wife freaked out when I took off and drove past it. You can drive right up to the gate while the "Camo Dudes watch you from the hill tops.

I remember staying at the Excaliber Casino back in 2007 and looking out my hotel window, directly across you could seen the parking ramp at McCarren Airport and those white 737s with the orange stripe, rumor had it those jets brought the employees in and out of Area 51 daily
There was a hike you can do and be able to see onto base from the top of a peak.
