I had same issues. I just unplugged the safety switches & put a jumper in the Female Plug. Basically just closing the circuit. Now the blades stay engaged when going in reverse. The switches are located down where your arms bolt up to the frame
Just followed your advice and Bam! Issue fixed plus the mower runs smoothly without the constant on/off cycle...wish I did this years ago! Thank you!!!
unplug the clutch underneath and run one wire to hot side of battery and one to ground and put a toggle switch on either side and problem solved bypass all safety 🐂💩

That's how I fixed the problem, really like that the blades don't turn off in reverse.
How did you fix the problem? I having the same problem with my cub cadet.
