Notice the interviewer keeps trying to make it a "black" movie and Spielberg just calls it a life movie.

Steven Spielberg is a genius and this movie is an example of his genius. I have watched this movie so many times and I have yet to be able to watch it without crying. The love, the pain, the perseverance of the human spirit is so incredibly depicted here. You find yourself sharing all the emotions along with each character. The actors were perfect for their individual parts. It really should have won an Oscar!

I really enjoyed this interview. It’s amazing that even now, nearly 40 years later, this is still one of the most brilliantly moving films I have ever seen.

Willard gave a great breakdown of Harpo's character.

And what a satisfying response to the dumb premise of the question (that Harpo is just a "weak man").

I’ve been enjoying watching old The Color Purple interviews. Back when Hollywood hired talented yet intelligent acts that could hold a conversation without saying like a bunch of times or talking about their intimate personal lives.

Being an interviewer for the past 20 years, I am just so embarrassed about the way this lady asks her questions: Her tone of voice sounds so artificial and her praises are over the top. You are talking to artists, please, treat them as craftsmen, not as idols.

I thought she did a fantastic job in this interview. She asked good questions that got each of her guests to open up and share more intimately. Also, I was impressed with how knowledgeable she was about each of the interviewees.
