Moving Plants On and Sowing Seeds

  • Its April, the time of year in the UK where we can sow most vegetable seeds. Plants we started earlier in the year are now growing fast and need moving on or planting out. It’s a fantastic month for the vegetable grower. In this video I use some old cloch frames to increase my propagation area and sow more seeds.

    I don't know if peppermint is the same as mint, but beware if it is! I thought I'd be "clever", and ignore general advice..., divide a cheap supermarket pot, and plant them in my small front garden. Took two years, and a lot of rooting about, to get rid of it. they went deep and far!:-):-)

      Hi Karl. yes it does spread like mad. All mint does. Ill hack it back if needed with a spade.

    Hi Jase, I'll be having a good sow this weekend, when sowing beetroot I like to sow Boltardy into 80 cell trays but I always do a monogram variety, like Moneta one plant from one seed, done it this way for years, it's getting busy, great live Sunday enjoyed the tips and advice. Steve Colwell

    The mad thing about using barbed wire is if it injures anyone on your property you could end up paying them compensation whether they were invited or whether they were trespassing. ..be carefull

    Good tip beetroot are a maritime veg that originally come from the coast scatter some common salt around the plants they like it

      @leatonveg  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Yes Ive heard it was origionally a coastal plant. Adding some salt (small amount) makes sense. Thanks for the tip!

    Morning Jase, I do that with my frames it is also good because the plants aren’t sitting in water. I am taking a lot more notes this year to stop growing things that don’t do well or we just don’t eat. New rule grow what you eat and eat what you grow. Yes the shuffle is real 😅😅. Lift with your knees not with your back 🤦🏼‍♀️. Won’t the mint spread to that bed ? Have a great week Jase don’t work too hard, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦

      Yes. I’m growing more of our staples this year. My knees are worse than my back 😂😂 yes the mint may spread. But I have a spade to adjust it with 😂😂

      If you direct sow your beetroot you need to cloche the area because as soon as the young shoots appear the birds will eat them they absolutely love them

      @@leatonveg This is my go week....but it's been non-stop rain and today is freezing rain/snow flurries. Thankfully nothing is sticking. I've got standing water all around the edges of my yard and if I step out there, it will be a squishy mess. It's going to turn manic this year once things are a go. Thankfully I'm retired and have the time that will be needed.
