    Great system! Just bought a "barn find" '89 with 68K original miles. Came with a tow bar that I just hooked up and tested today. Amazing how she tracks so well. Turned ignition to first click (unlocks steering but doesn't turn power on anywhere), switched TC to neutral and put trans in 5th gear. I actually rode back there for a few miles while my brother drove the truck. I will figure how to disconnect speedo cable as the miles were accumulating as we towed it around. I also have a 16' car hauler for towing long hauls behind motorhome but this system will work great for local runs to the trails or not so far camping trips. Pull truck is a diesel GMC 2500 and motorhome is built on F550 chassis, so no brakes are needed. Both tows have engine brakes and HD suspensions. One warning...make sure you know where you are going as you CANNOT BACK UP more than a few inches. The wheels will cock around on you.

      You don't need to unlock the wheel. Wranglers wheels don't lock. They are built to flat tow.

      you say 5th gear. I'll be towing mine about 40 miles on the highway. Is that cool.

    Thanks for uploading this. I always wondered how it would turn. I thought the front tires would scrub but im blown away that they actually turn into the turn! How's that haha!? What's it like to turn backing up?

      Backing up while flat towing is a major NO NO. The caster of the towed vehicle will force the tires to immediately turn when backing up and will cause yo uto bend the tow bar almost instantly. If you have someone inside to steer, you MIGHT be able to get away with a few feet, but even then it's risky.

    Some say 1st gear, some say 2nd. You say 5th. That makes sense to me since I'll be doing highway driving. I'll be towing a 1990 YJ wrangler. Anything else I should know? thanks

    Did it ever get the death wobble while being towed?

    How safe is flat towing across country? And how fast can you go?

  • @bluetaco1
    @bluetaco1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Did you ever take it on the highway at highway speeds or just around the neighborhood? What were you pulling it with? Who made the hitch?

    • @offroad91588
      @offroad91588  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greg Sowards I haven't tried the highway yet. But I've done 60 no problem. I pull it with my 02 Dodge Cummins. I don't remember who makes the hitch but I got it on Amazon

      Pull mine from WV to SWFL and back every year. 70 to 80 mph. No issues

    does ur car have to get proper wheel alignment before getting flat towed?

    Do you have any videos of the setup/hookup install?

    Did you have any support for the bumper or is it just bolted through as is? Gonna be doing this soon with a 91 so any info helps. Nice video.

    • @offroad91588
      @offroad91588  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      M Printz it's bolted right to the bumper. I bolted it where the frame meets the bumper

      @@Nimesh222 great. So far I've towed it from Virginia to Maryland when I picked it up, from North Carolina back to MD when I drove down to buy a Suburban and then again from West Virginia back to MD on another trip to buy another Suburban.

    Do you have to lock the steering when doing this?

  • @SKANK_HUNT49

    Do you have any sort of braking system inside of the Jeep itself? I'm just asking because I've seen some videos where they do the brake is pulled by some sort of chord. Or this one video I saw it had like a robot you wedge in between the seat to the brake pedal. My truck has dual-piston calipers in the front brake drums in the back what do you think? Awesome video by the way

    • @offroad91588
      @offroad91588  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MIKE HUNT I don't have any brake system for the Jeep. My truck stops it just fine. The Jeep is lighter the my trailers I normally pull

    • @SKANK_HUNT49
      @SKANK_HUNT49 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Doug Shannon do those heavy trailers that you tow have brakes?

    • @manny6584
      @manny6584 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SKANK_HUNT49 I see he never answered but I'm pretty sure they do come with electric brakes. You need a brake controller in your truck to send the signal to the trailer brakes for them to work.

    • @SKANK_HUNT49
      @SKANK_HUNT49 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@manny6584 right makes sense. I recently found some sort of electrical connector behind the seat of my truck it has many wires. I believe one of them was marked brake. Thanks brother

    • @manny6584
      @manny6584 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SKANK_HUNT49 that's probably for A aftermarket brake controller. If your truck doesn't have A controller from the factory, they still will have the wires under the dashboard. What you might have is the connector with the wires that attatch to the open end wire harness under your dash. You will then need to buy A aftermarket break controller along with the connector for your brand of truck, so you can plug it in to the connector that should be sticking out after you connected the wires under your dash with the harness you already have.

    How do the wheels track where you turn? Would this setup work on a car without power steering

    • @offroad91588
      @offroad91588  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Broken Trooper it tracks great. No power steering shouldn't be a problem. The Jeep isn't running when I'm towing
