    When you found the two Boletus edulis next to the Fly Agaric, you reminded me of of my mentor's reaction when she found Fly Agarics. She called them her "lucky" mushroom, since Fly Agaric and Boletus Edulis (her favorites) so often grow in the same conditions. Whenever she found a Fly Agaric, she would proclaim "There is the lucky, now where is the luck?" as she proceeded to hunt the surrounding area for the Porcini that was sure to be found nearby.
    Thanks for taking us along on your hunt, and thanks for reminding me of my old friend!
    I'm amused by how similar mushroom hunting is in Slovakia and in the American Rocky Mountains where I live. We seem to have many of the same species, growing in similar conditions. We have a Leccinum species that is common here, that looks very like the one you are collecting. It is Leccinum aurantiacum, which is called the "aspen bolete" locally, since the white stem has dark patches, similar to the dark patches on the trunk of the aspen trees that it grows underneath.

    • @LukesMushrooms
      @LukesMushrooms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a nice story, maybe I'll start to use the luck and lucky combo too for myself :) And it is interesting to hear about the similarity. We have Leccinum aurantiacum here too - we call it oak bolete and blood bolete, however it mostly grows under aspens. Under aspens you can also find Leccinum albostipitatum here, which we normally call aspen bolete. It's similar to aurantiacum, just the stem is completely white for typical specimen. In some of my September 2022 videos I have both of them :)

    We have same mushrooms in Serbia. My grandma took us often to forest when we were kids and thought us about edible mushrooms.
    Idk their latin or english names, but we collected vrganje, lisicarke and mlecike. Mlecika was my favorite, it's completely white, and when you cut it, it bleeds white "milk", it also have a mildly spicy smell and flavor.

      I learned to hunt mushrooms in the U.S. from a charming lady who grew up in Austria. Since she was once my German language professor, we discussed the names of the mushrooms we found in many languages. In honor of the memory of my dear friend Sigrid, I can help you learn the foreign names for your favorite mushrooms!
      The vrganje is the same mushroom Luke is collecting in this video, the one he calls Boletus edulis, which grows worldwide and, naturally, has lots of different names. Vrganje is called the "King Bolete" in the American Rocky Mountains where I collect it, while the English call it a "penny bun." It is known as the "Porcini" (little pig) in Italian and the "Cep" (for its thick stem) in French. The vrganje was Sigrid's favorite mushroom!
      The liscarke was another of her favorites. In French it is called the Chantrelle, and we use that French name when we find it in the U.S. as well. I don't recall learning any other names for the Chantrelle, so I'm glad to add the name liscarke to my mushroom lexicon! Спасибо! 😉

      You are too far all over the place. Basically, if you are not sure, pick to help identifying. Covering the hole like Luke is a nice thing to do, although it helps very little. Cut if you know what it is, it’s just cleaner. This can all depend on the type. Think of picking or cutting an apple off a tree. Does it matter? You are standing on a “tree” of mycelium, you are only seeing the fruits (mushrooms).

      @@trav9902 okay, so I didn't damage the mycelium by touching the bulbs and then putting them back in? I read for growing mushrooms the mycelium needs to be in a sterile environment and my hands weren't sterile, I had forgotten about that when I handled them. I'll cut from now on with the ones I know the identity of, thank you!

    In my country there is a belief that if you find a small or large mushroom, you must take it otherwise it will rot

    very nice mushroom picking video, maybe it is better to show mushroom name on the screen in the beginning

      Thank you. I try to mention the mushroom names in each video's description. However, I don't often put mushroom names on the screen as it makes the video production slower for me.

      I didn't find any summer chanterelles at my spot in the mountains today. I'll be checking my coastal spots for some porcinni in a couple days. Supposedly it rained last week so fingers crossed 🤞

      We learn the basics at pripary school here, but the most I learned from my family or friends. It is very important to be careful and never eat anything you are not 100% sure about. You can also learn from books or videos, but the best way is to go mushroom hunting with an experienced person who can teach you.

      I'm glad you like the cleaning and in the future I'll try to show more of it, but it's not always possible to record as it's quite time consuming.
