Blaze is only assumed to be dumb. I honestly don't think she is. She managed to secure the single strongest alliance of dragons, all things considered, since the Icewing combat prowess is simply rivaled by none. One touch of icebreath wrecks dragons, and their territory is practically untouchable. Even where Blaze is at.
She's gained that alliance despite having no resources beyond manpower, too. No gold, no trade, nothing. She did it by offering useless land in exchange for their support; Land that is promised only after she's queen might I add.
She's also tried to secure the allegiance of the Dragonets without the usual "lock them up" strategy the other two had. Again, offering them their own fiefs inside the Sandwing Kingdom. Another instance of offering something that costs nothing in the moment, and is certainly no grandiose expense down the line, considering that small territory even if it does grow will inevitably be tied to the Sandwings, both due to proximity, as well as the aftereffects of their allegiance in the war.
I would personally easily take Blaze over a murderous bandit with anger issues.
But, I suppose nepotism wins out in the end...

I always thought that she was smart, but short-sighted and egotistical. Keep in mind, the Dragonets of Destiney were just children to her, especially after the NightWings told her how useless they were. In the Brightest Night, she wanted to spill her true plan to Burn so she could have that moment of satisfaction before Burn died. Also, snakes that live in deserts are usually pretty hardy, and can survive several days without food or water.
As for the moment before her death, when she monologued to Thorn, that was specifically mentioned to be her cool demenour falling away. It is mentioned in the text that she was angry and out of her mind before she grabbed the orb.
Blister is smart, just sometimes her ego gets in her way.

Meanwhile Blister while preoccupied with killing Webs doesn't noticed Tsunami barreling into to her. Also you gotta consider you have to atleast somewhat know what you're doing in war and Burn at this point managed to stay alive for 18-20 years while actively participating in the battles

Blister always struck me as less 'smart' and more "snaky" for a lack of better words.
She's not an idiot. But she's definitely not some mastermind.
She's just a schemer who defaults to underhanded tactics.

    • @theriveracis5172
      @theriveracis5172 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Now you know who's depicted as an idiot, but whom I'm firmly of the stance isn't?
      Blaze.
Blaze is a GREAT candidate for queen, and I still firmly say she'd've been a better pick than a literal murderous bandit with anger issues.
She barters her way to the loyalty of the Icewings without even needing gold.
She has the loyalty of the majority of Sandwings, entirely just by not being horrible to them.
She actually tried to secure the loyalty of the Dragonets, offering what she had access to, which requires no immediate investment.
And she has such a solid personality that she does actually seem to be able to convince other dragons of her side of view.
While she's airheaded at times, a little soft, and certainly lacking a filter, she managed to secure the single greatest alliance in the war with a tribe that surpasses the Seawings in their untouchability with far greater combat prowess, while costing her literally nothing. She's traded away useless land because the Icewings think maybe, just maybe, the great lost treasure of the Sandwings is there.
Considering Coral's loyalty is bought with nothing but gold, I've no doubt she could secure her loyalty, too, if given the opportunity. And Moorhen's support for Burn is entirely coerced, largely out of necessity given the hostility of the Seawings post the Nightwing intervention.
She absolutely could promise protection to Moorhen and get her on side. And then she'd have not only the majority of the Sandwings, not only the single strongest combat force in Phyrria, but also absolute control of the waters, and yet greater numbers on her side.
Now I'll grant, her reign may well be short, unless she changes things, given her lack of combat ability.
Onyx might well kill her, if it came right down to it, and an open challenge.
But, even so, considering the whole war started with a refusal to engage in traditional challenges, I feel she'd get away with it, or rather others around her would, in just shooing or outright killing Onyx before that came to pass.
I am firmly and 100% on Team Blaze for queen.

I feel like every dragon that is "smart" in this universe is just "not dumb", because they never do anything that is particularly smart, but everyone else is being utterly brain dead and can't figure out obvious things
Is Blister smarter than her sisters ? Very probably.
She chose probably the weakest possible alliance, nothing tells us she's the one who decided to ally with the Nightwings. She says she was the one to make the conflict into a war, which is stupid on two sides.
Why telling everyone you're the reason of their suffering when you want to rule them ?
And why make the conflict into a direct and obvious one where trickery is less likely to work and your enemies will be more wary about your plans ?

  • @Daisystarrunner

I think what the author was trying to get at for Blister was some type of character development, making the reader be told over and over by these other main characters “Blister is smart.” Only for the reader and the other characters later to figure out that oh “Maybe Blister isn’t so smart?”
I don’t know that’s just a theory I took into consideration from reading a lot of character development and listening to theories of it for the past couple years.

"Seawings can't use spears" Don't you think that they would have their own weapons that they can handle easily.
Edit: Also Six-claws never made himself a threat to her personally as he did what any dragon in the palace would in his situation with Blaze. Why would Blister go out of her way to murder him? The two never had many major interactions after that even when he was working with Thorn and her not murdering him doesn't end badly on her part so I don't get your point. What is she suppose to do murder every dragon who gets in her way while she's only a princess? The nightwings wanted to stay in the shadows for there own reasons as they wanted the war to keep going for there own reasons. Losing the nightwings as allies wasn't her fault and I think she was playing Coral well for while. I feel like the dragons gathered for the whole final meeting might be able to beat Blister armies seeing that tons of important dragons were gathered there with much security . I agree that Blister isn't as smart as the books want us to think but most of your points don't make any sense if u read the books. And they way u talk in this annoyed lecturing tone as if any of what your saying makes sense is annoying.
Edit2: Reputation? Scarlet poisoned all of her sisters if u read the guidebook, killing multiple dragon by accident making it the bloodlyest day in skywing history since the last war. I dont think she need a good rep to be queen. Bad queens exist in the series and with there power they simply aren't questioned. Once Blaze and Burn were dead the sandwings weren't supposed to have a choice on who they follow its was her or no one. Also about her injuring Clay, Scarlet was going have them all killed for entertainment and no one in the sky kingdom is giving her shit for it. She's queen, she orders, they follow no one cares if she as a rep for being sadistic and evil the same would go for Blister if she became queen. No one worships the dod or care personally about there wellbeing they just want them to end the war. Its not a democracy things like reputation and competence in a leader don't matter at all, its all bloodline and as I said after Burn and Blaze were killed she was going to be her kingdoms only hope over rebuilding after years of civil war. The sandwings don't get a choice so there opinion of her doesnt matter. Do u really think any cares about 1 dod being hurt after 20 years of war and thousands of deaths at the hands of all of the sisters. A war with preteen child soilders.

Oml thank you for addressing this. She honestly comes off as dumber than Blaze (still smarter than Burn but that's a low bar) who at least seems to have a solid plan in mind. Let the sandwings suffer under Burn, to gain the favor of her kingdom while she remains untouchable behind the great ice wall, and send assassins after Blister or make her cruelty obvious as equivalent to Burn. Not that I think Blaze is actually smart, as she fails to appear competent to the dragonets of destiny and at the sandwing arena, when it would have benefited her immensely. But compared to Blister, who also botched negotiations with the dragonets and the Mudwings, combined with everything else in this video, and didn't have a real plan beyond hoping she could manipulate better alliances than Burn, yeah she comes off as really stupid.

Dragonbite vipers, just like sandwings and rattlesnakes, another desert dweller, can go a while without food and water, debunking that theory. At the time she tricked Blaze, she was only a dragonet, not quite as smart as an elder or adult dragoness, one more debunked. She was smart with her allies, she knew Coral was gullible and she allied with the two ONLY tribes that still carried animus genes. The Dragonets of Destiny were a prophecy, but even then it was fake and also, not everyone even believed it to be true, debunking two more. Her backup plan with Burn was... Yknow, the second viper, so I find it kind of weird how you pointed that out but still couldn't connect the dots. Also, by hiding her allying with the Nightwings, she tricked the rest of Phyrria into thinking they were not involved. Its not likely that all of the Nightwing tribe even knew of Blister anyway, considering their state, they probably were just focused on surviving. By the way, lets not forget mistakes also exist in the dragon world. Disappointing that you did not know that, since you make SO many in basically all of your videos. Not hating, simply speaking up.

Kinda off-topic, but it's the same reason why I don't care for how Qibli is portrayed in Darkness of Dragons. In the other books he's great, but in 10 the characters and narrative are constantly commenting on how intelligent, observant, and kind he is; but when you read between the lines Qibli is half the time just winging it from one plot point to the next, he makes a number of rash decisions with little forethought of consequences, and his motivations can sometimes come off a bit selfish.
It's this dichotomy between what the book's saying and what it's showing (causing a lot of mixed messages) that is why I have a hard time calling it one of the better books imo.
