@@tanthamanI just got R41 and have used it twice. It’s my favorite out of the razors I own and gives me an amazing irritation free shave. Now I didn’t care for the muhle blade that came with it. So I changed it out with a perma sharp and got a bbs shave.
You rinsed the razor under hot water. I remember a video you posted where a viewer told you that we shouldn’t rise under hot water but cold water instead. Hot or cold? Thanks for your great videos!!!
I used a Merkur 34c when I started. It is an excellent trainer. I use a Muhle R41 now - since it is efficient and necessary for my skin irritation. BUT, the 34c is a classic. I will always keep mine.
I appreciate the content. The thorough descriptions and visuals/modelling is done well. You are conversational - concise, fun, and informative - an excellent triad!
I used 38C then bought Rockwell 6C with 1/3 plate after that Gillette razor with black plastic handle until i bought Gillette King C!I shave once or twice a week. That’s my personal experience. If i’d have to start it all over again I’d start with Gillette King C and then see if i need something more agressive.I wouldn’t call 38C a mild razor. In any case there’s a razor for any of us to pick!Like your style, Geofatboy!Good presentation skills!I enjoy your videos!Happy shaving!God bless.
I use the 38C, the long handle version of the 34C. My first DE razor four years a go. I have three other razors I rotate with, one is on the expensive side. The 38C still gives me a smooth shave in two passes.
I'm still using "....THE WORKHORSE OF RAZORS.....!" as well! ! ! I've tried 1 or 2 others, but the Merkur is the one I always come back to ! Geo-Nation ! ! !
My first razor. I love it. I’ve moved on to the stainless Feather, which I love and have used for over a decade, but I still have the Merkur. By the way I bought a Simpson synthetic brush from you several years ago. I use it every day and it is still in perfect shape and works perfectly. Thank you!
I love my 34C!! I've tried other razors and it's been a blood bath. This razor is perfect. So much so that I followed up and bought more Merkur blades from you. Their perfect together. Thank you Geo and SN.
i jus recently noticed i cant shave with cartridge shavers anymore. They jus dont do the job like when i was younger. I jus recently purchased the rockwell t2 thanks to your review. I like the adjustable blade feature. Jus waiting on some other products to arrive this sunday so i can get my first shave with a safety razor. Haha i hope it goes well.
34C was my entry razor and was recommended by to me by geofatboy on this very channel. I still own it and love it as well as the Merkur slant. Thanks Geo.
Congratulations 🎉👌👍👏👏👏. That what I have use for years now, also others safety razor and straight razor too. Have a great day! I learn to use straight razors, right here. Best wishes and the best for 2025
Thank you Geo Fatboy! I agree with you regarding the 34C, and I actually got my 38C from you about a year ago because I have large hands and the 34C’s handle would get lost in my hand sometimes while shaving. The 38C with a Feather Blade is one of my most used Razors… along with my vintage Gillette Adjustable Razors. Hey, I liking the new steel bowl! I’m going to have to check them out and pick one up.
Hmm the Merkur a tad heavy for me but good and I have now used a Feather AS-D2 with a Feather blade for a long time now and it is a great combo. Personally i go for a two pass and finish with a good splash of Thayers medicated withhazel it brings those last few bits of tiny stubble up and it clears it fine.
I got a 34C a few months ago, and while it is a nice, smooth razor, the blade reveal is different on each side. Hard to see, but easy to feel and hear! Drives me nuts when I use it! I took some measurements, and the head of the 34C was all over the place. Top cap, base plate, everything. Up to .010-.015"/ .25-.40mm variance in different dimensions between the two sides. I understand it's a mass-produced, fairly cheap razor. But the tolerances in my KCG, which cost half as much, don't vary by more than .002"/ .05mm per side! Maybe I just got a dud. but I'm hesitant to buy another Merkur to find out.
@@geofatboy Bought new from Razor Emporium! I was going to order it from you, but I wanted to try some of their house-made shave soap as well. I'm sure they'd replace it if I reached out to them, but I'd rather just save it to give to a friend if they ever want to try wetshaving.
Hi Geo! Love your videos! Thinking about getting my first safety razor. I’ve looked at the Merkur 23C and the Feather D2. Which one is the right one to go for in your opinion?
Great shave Geo! All soaps and creams turn white when lathered AFAIK, so a white bowl doesn't matter really. At any rate, the 34C is the working mans razor, no frills or flattery just great shaving. Thanks for the video!
If you had to do a direct comparison in shave experience and aggressiveness what plate on the Rockwell 6C/6S would be a match to this razor considering same blade used?
I have several safety razors but my 34C doesn't seem to do a great job. So many people recommend it that I'm beginning to think mine has a manufacturing defect, maybe a fraction of a mm somewhere, I also have the infamous R41 which would be my weapon of choice for safety razors but I usually use a straight razor when time permits.
I have used many double edge razors (old timer in the 70's now) but I agree with Geo for a daily driver I'll take my 34G day in and day out...! I like others, like a Gillette Red Tip and my Gillette Slim and also my Merkur Progress, love them but again day in day out, the 34 is for me, the best razor out there and I have a heavy beard... I always recommend it to any new comer...GG
@ I agree with you. I’m doing four, maybe five. I tried a full week but it was not as pleasant on day 6, and definitely day 7. I love feather blades. Thanks.
I can't understand how you can use a feather blade 3 times... My first shave with a feather blade was shocking. Scraping, razor hop, rash afterward. I put it down to bad technique. I used afew other blades after that...Shark super chrome, Derby Extra, Astra, Muhle (came with the R89 twist) and Gillette 7 O'clock Superior stainless (which is the best for me so far). I went back to the feathers after afew weeks to see if I had judged it too harshly. Midway through the 3rd pass, it just stopped cutting. Refused to cut against the grain completely. These blades seem to ba actual garbage. What am I missing here?
Can someone help me with this- im confused between a henson and merkur 34c . In my country the shipping for a henson is one month whereas i can get a 34c within a week from amazon. Are hensons really worth the wait and the extra bucks in my case ?? I just want good razor for daily shave (one and done ).
I have a Henson and am first time shaving double edge last 6 months. It's OK but I'm going to order this one to try. A lot depends on your blade choice, I've tried sample packs and have settled on 2 brands. I would go with his recommendation for all these years.
I'd consider an adjustable instead, like a Parker Variant or Rockwell 6c, since those can adapt to your skill and beard growth. Blade choice can only do so much. If you have heavy beard growth, I'd recommend a different razor and blade type.
Recently my girlfriend bestie asked me that since her grandfather can't shave his face because his hands shake so can safety razor be used to shave someone else face
@AndreasJ-ol8no it just means to pull your neck skin to where it's tight and provides a good surface for the razor to glide across without grabbing the skin. I apply pressure just below my neck to make the skin taut.
The original. The GOAT.
R41 is goat imo
