Happy New Year Sal🎉🎉🎉Thank you for picking this song. I forget about a lot of the good old songs out there... It's been a minute😂 This was a really good one❤and now I want to watch the US festival from 1983. I saw a pic taken from above of the spectators and it was shocking how many people were there. I think 670K in attendance 😮😮 Thanks for all the fun!!❤

MORE! Triumph is an epic Canadian trio that is really worth diving into. The drummer sings as well, and their songs always tend to have a really positive message like Magic Power, and Follow your Heart and lots more. Come down the rabbit hole, its fun down here.

Mike Levine, Triumph’s bassist, had a great voice, too. Their backing vocals were second to none! This band just had it all! A rarity in music. The 70’s and early 80’s music set the bar and, imo, were never surpassed. Triumph was a gem among even all of that.

This video was just released in 2010. The US festival that they played in was in 1983. A huge festival over 3 days sponsored by US magazine a competitor of People. Bands who were there were the Clash, Stevie Nicks, Van Halen, the Scorpions, Izzy Osborne, Joe Walsh, the pretenders, John Cougar Mellancamp, David Bowie and about 20 other bands!!!

    • @lauraallen55
      @lauraallen55 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It was put on by Steve Wozniak and Bill Graham (the first one) and Bill Graham was replaced as Steve's partner by a CO based promoter for the second one. Hard to believe they both lost about $12 million. The Clash refused to go on until it was agreed that $100k of their pay would go to charity.

Triumph was one of those extremely rare bands that had it all. The vocals from every member, Rik’s especially, the guitars, the bass, and not last or least, the killer drumming, were all stellar! One of the few bands that were better live than on their excellent studio albums, and they did it all with only three members. Fricking amazing!
Thank you for the great reaction! I loved seeing your eyes light up when the vocals, guitar, bass, and drums all kicked in. I could tell you heard the talent in those leads Rick laid down, too.

If you really want to see what Triumph was like live, US Festival - Fight the Good Fight. Arguably the best act of the Heavy Metal side of the Festival which included acts like Van Halen, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Quite Riot, Ozzy and Motley Crue. From interviews with Rik, he explained the band flew in the day of the event being mid tour and was already at top performance level and it showed as the band performed amazingly well.

Written by and sung by Rik Emmett.
Rush is the main 3-piece band in Metro Toronto. Triumph is the second 3-piece band from the same metro area. Some similarities. But Rush went more prog as Triumph had more blues based rock. Both bands are friends to each other.

Triumph is special. Their musicianship is fantastic. They were/are amazing live.
HOWEVER, this is very obviously the studio version over the live performance. It wasn't necessary to do it that way.
This US Festival was held in May '83 in San Bernadino, CA. You SHOULD look for that version, as it is a better representation of what Triumph was like live.

Rik Emmitt was doing some solo tours for a while and played some small clubs. We went early, and he was sitting at the bar drinking ice water. We talked to him for a few minutes and he was incredibly nice and down-to-earth. He also put on a hell of a performance. He can play any style of guitar, from straightforward rock to Spanish guitar, to classical to country/folk, and he makes a 12 string guitar look like it's easy to play.

The two US Festivals were the creation of Apple's Steve Wozniak. One was in '82 and the other was in '83 near San Bernardino CA. They were three days long each, and included acts like Santana, Fleetwood Mac, B-52s Ramones, Police, The Kinks, Tom Petty, INXS, The Clash, Van Halen, David Bowie, and U2, so some pretty big names.
The first one in September '82 was 110 degrees and there were a lot of arrests and ODs. The festival lost 12 million both times.
As people have mentioned, this is the studio recording from '79 or '80 played to a live performance (but not the US Festival performance).

The drama of the dark blue soft intro, the first part that sets the pace, the epic guitar solo break, and the blowout ending, with a bunch of cool tricks like a mini guitar run for about 20 seconds after each verse, some 4 part harmonies at the end of the chorus, just for a second, a lot of wild drum fills, but all in short hits and a radio-friendly sound -- they have got it all. (hint -- this is not even their most epic hit!) They really make it a Rock Experience.
They would have been so much bigger, but it was hard to find their records in stores back in the day, for some reason they were in the expensive "import" section where the prices were tripled in my town. I found them years later in a second hand store that had boxes of records under the tables for like $3.
It is still a funny experience to hear a band on the radio (or see a reaction) and know "I had that record ... cool."

Rik Emmett's voice was great on this, but I was at least equally surprised at the harmonies and almost choir-like backing vocals of the drummer Gil Moore and bassist Mike Levine.
