Too true. Even the actress that voiced her, Iane Woods, even stated that Cinderella just wanted to go to the ball due to her meanspirited stepfamily treating her like crap. Cinderella is not about her seeking a man.

As a little girl, I disliked Cinderella and Snow White because I thought they were doormats. Because I was nothing like them (even though I had no idea how I would handle their situations if I were in their shoes; I still don't). I'm not. But these two had more guts than the modern "strong independent woman" because they still stood up, smiled and kept moving forward, doing the best they could. And bless Cinderella for stepping in and saying, "Actually I have the right to the ball too." Little me was wrong about them, and I'm glad I appreciate them so much more now.

Same! Honestly I’m a bit insulted Pocahontas was placed below f*cking Aurora. I don’t hate her, but Aurora literally doesn’t do ANYTHING in her movie or have an actual personality aside being the king and generic sweet beautiful girl. I get she’s called Sleeping Beauty for a reason, but she had so many character growth opportunities to show, like the revelation she’s actually a princess. Anyways, I get why some people don’t like and outright hate Pocahontas. But ignoring historical accuracy issues in the movie, I don’t find her or her romance boring at all. If anything, she’s a girl who’s story is about self discovery and helping those who don’t understand her beliefs or way of life to be more accepting to others’ differences and beliefs. Honestly I’m also kinda insulted the dude even said he kinda likes Rolfe better with Pocahontas, because they have the most boring relationship ever

Belle may not come from a magical or powerful family, but she remains my favorite Disney princess.
She's not just written as something beautiful, she uses her head, she's courageous, selfless, she can and has shown fear (Unlike in the remake). Something I always appreciated was how they realistically discounted her beauty because she was different. "Hey, she's beautiful, but it's a shame that she's so weird." Not saying I wanted her to go through the mistreatment--just that the experiences she went through felt raw.

My list is very different because Aurora is my favorite. I just love her elegance, gentleness, and emotional capacity. Like the scene where she says goodbye to Phillip. She can’t handle the fact that she won’t be able to see him again. Another word to describe her is grace that really encapsulates her as a whole. Rapunzel is second, she is very lively. She wants to see what the world is like and she does that in the movie and the tv show. Jasmine is very fierce much like a tiger. She knows what she wants despite what the law says. My Queen Kida is the best queen from Disney in my opinion. She has so much to ask of Milo and they are a great couple! She is very inquisitive. Tiana is the embodiment of persistence. She keeps going despite what everyone says around her. Even her mother to an extent wants her to stop rolling. But she finally gets her and her dad’s dream come true. Belle is love in human form. She sticks by her dad and she still stands by him when Prince Adam imprisons them. Cinderella is quite kind. She does not stop to consider that she can leave her step family. Because as we get to know in the live action, she loves the house that she grew up in. She does not want to get rid of that. How beautiful! Mulan is just so courageous! She does not care about the law much like Jasmine and she saves a whole country. Moana is the definition of independence. She learns the ropes pretty quickly and she was about to solo the whole mission. But she needed the help from Maui and the Ocean. Anna is so bubbly, she has quite a bit of emotional baggage. But she loves her sister and she is able to pull through in the films. Snow White is basically a mom. She tells everyone what to do. That makes her a great leader for someone of her age. Ariel is so headstrong much like her father. It’s a good thing Prince Eric is able to handle her energy and get a handle of things when they go on that canoeing ride. They are a good match for sure. Merida is stubborn like her mother. It’s hilarious! Queen Eleanor just needed to let go of Merida. Now for Merida all she needed to do was to not trust an old witch. Pocahontas is so wise. But the growth that she went through is that both sides needed to calm down. She knew that Nature had a way and she needed to follow it. Elsa is reserved which is her parent’s fault. The only thing I like about her is ‘Show Yourself.’ That song has helped me with my confidence. I just hope that they make the sequels make more sense and enjoyable. I feel bad for Raya, she lost her father and the whole Dragon gem in one day. They should have made a tv series instead so we can get to see the growth that everyone should have gotten. Instead we got a half baked villain who didn’t really redeem herself. She only did it out of circumstance. As you can see, I don’t like Vanellope. She is just a bit childish which makes sense. It can’t help the fact that I don’t like Wreck it Ralph. I haven’t seen the second and I doubt I ever will. But she is not as bad as Eilonwy who has the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard. I can never forget what she says when she got mad. Girl! Just because I’m girl, I can’t do anything. Or something in that likeness. Hoped you like my comments on these princesses!

For Mulan, she's actually quite similar to Belle in the sense that she went to war just to protect her father, even if it means she returns in disgrace and unmarriageable (since in such times, a woman's worth is only based on marriage; by the time she comes back, she may be too old and too out of shape to be desired by men). To Mulan, her family is priority and would sacrifice anything for them (though she does eventually care to save the emperor and happens to save her country along with this). That's what's courageous about her. Moreover, not only is Mulan brave, she's also very witty and is able to overcome situations using different alternative up in her sleeve

I honestly agree with your exceptions. Although out of everyone on the list, Mulan is my favorite female character.
As a princess, I never considered her to be one. A princess IS a title with specific rules and duties. And Mulan is never one, regardless of what Disney says.
This is why my personal favorite is Ariel. As a kid, I love her want for adventure and her fascination to learning new things. She's the reason why I love to travel and learn other countries culture.
As an adult, her marriage actually has political benefits that bridges two kingdoms. Which becomes less and less common with later princess as others would marry someone within their own kingdom.
On top of her relationship with Eric has a good message of loving someone regardless of the differences you have.
Princess Kida is an easy second. Because of how much she really embodies a princess interms of her duties as a ruler.

My Top 5 Favorite Disney Princesses
#1. Ariel (The first active Disney princess to break away from the stereotypical princess trope thanks to her capabiltiy and agency (facing off with a shark, killing Ursula's eels, and saving Prince Eric (twice). Her story is very memorable as it's a love story with high stakes and obsticals she endures throughout her journey from sea to land and how she is full of life and childlike playfulness and excitement and curiosity making her instantly adorable and lovable. She is just as interesting as she is lovable and her beauty and voice are just the icing on the cake).
    2. Anna (She's the Disney Princess I relate to the most. She thinks and acts like me, she's quotable, her chemistry with Kristoff is a lot of fun, and I dig her character growth in Frozen 2 because of how much I relate to her insecurities and struggles as it reminds me of myself whenever I'm in my lowest point).
    3. Tiana (This is a really cool character. Tiana is down to earth and realistic who takes the infamous follow your dreams lesson and turns it upside down by acknowledging that getting what you want doesn't come from dreaming and wishing and hoping alone but from hard work).
    4. Belle (She's smart, independent, mature, but at the same time genuine, and likable).
    5. Elsa (She's a misunderstood victim who many treat her as a threat due to her having ice powers. But, at the same time, Elsa has been struggling in living with these powers to the point where she has to hide her powers or people will see her as a threat. It makes her interesting and sympathetic).

Before judging them, it's so important to remember that so many of these Princesses are minors - they're children. It wasn't wrong for them to remain in a toxic environment and try to make the most of it, especially when they had it put in their heads (like Cinderella) that they had no where to go and nobody else cared about them.

    • @evyrys2725
      @evyrys2725 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I mean… I don’t think age matters for most of these characters. Like Belle could be 17 or 20 or 25 and it doesn’t make much of a difference. She doesn’t have a canon age either (in the movie). With Rapunzel, Anna or Ariel, them being young is important to their character genuinely.
Cinderella isn’t a minor (I think her canon age is 19, but considering she isn’t given one in the movie, she could very well be in her 20s and it’d still work). But my point is, while age does factor in abuse (especially when the person has experienced abuse all their life), an adult being abused shouldn’t also be blamed either. And Cinderella really didn’t have any better options than staying in that abusive environment (she was a woman and times were different back then). With her abusive family at least she had a home and food (not a compliment to them). Leaving would make her homeless and put her in a super dangerous position.

Personally my top five favorite Disney Princesses are: Jasmine, Belle, Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel. Also, Moana, Cinderella, Ariel, Merida, and Snow White are also within the Top Ten.
As for your ranking on Raya. I wholeheartedly agree yes, Raya's goal on finding Sisu, and finding the rest of the missing Gem pieces to repair the Dragon Gem and restore everyone turned to stone from the Druun including her Father, was brave of her, this is where her positives end because throughout the majority film she still had issues on trusting others, now granted I don't blame Raya for being cold and distant following the incident when she was 12 years old and trusted Namaari until she backstabbed her after she showed her the location of the Dragon Gem causing the rest of Fang and the other tribes to arrive and fight over it leading to the Druun reawakening and causing her father to turn to stone, hence her hesitation on trusting others. Also, it's not only Namaari Raya had trust issues, she also had skepticism and hesitation on trusting *ANYONE* throughout the film especially when she first met Boun, Noi and her Ongis, and Tong for the first time but eventually slowly learned to trust them and have them join her group to restore the Dragon Gem Pieces, yet in some instances she still refused to grow as a person due to her being unflexible and "taking the first step" up until the climax of the film.
Now here comes the scene that everyone continues to argue and debate regarding Namaari "killing" Sisu, and I'm going to be upfront both Raya and Namaari are to blame for this consequence. Namaari slightly twitching her finger on the crossbow lever didn't signify she was preparing to shoot Sisu immediately, Raya just jumped to conclusions or in this case "jumped the gun" due to her continued distrust towards Namaari and just threw her sword causing the crossbow to release the arrow and inadvertently killing Sisu in the process, while at the same time not trusting Sisu on giving Namaari a chance when Sisu was calming her down. So literally Raya's actions in that scene alone when Sisu tried to calm Namaari down did more harm than good which is the reason why Raya's continued distrust and "jumping the gun" by throwing the sword led to this consequence, so at the end if the day, no matter whose fault it was, both Raya and Namaari were at fault for accidentally killing Sisu.
Think of it as trying to attack a scared/suicidal person still holding a triggered gun while the other person is trying to calm them down, just interfering the situation would result in the gun to fire and also causing the person and others to get hurt or in the worst case scenario killed.
It literally is frustrating and is BS that *EVERYONE* just continues to overlook that scene and continue to point fingers that Sisu's death is entirely Namaari's fault when in reality, both Raya and Namaari are to blame for this consequence, especially the former due to her trust issues and "jumping the gun" thinking that Namaari's finger twitching on the crossbow made Raya thought she was going to shoot Sisu and it didn’t justify Raya’s actions in that scene alone.

I think I mostly agree with your lineup, including Cinderella as #1, but I think I would make Belle #2 in my list.
I love Moana and her story, but ultimately when _I_ rank the princesses, I’m looking for the bravest, most inspiring character, because that’s what I would want more kids to see.
I think it’s way more brave and inspiring that Belle knew what she wanted in life, but was willing to sacrifice her own desires to save someone else.
Moana‘s story is mostly about finding herself and what she wants. Yes, she also wants to help her people, but her great climactic song is literally “I am Moana“. She’s discovering _herself._ And that’s not bad!
But I don’t think it’s as brave or inspiring or powerful of a message as Belle’s journey.

Cinderella well deserves to place high.
Nala isn't an official Disney princess but when you think about it, she risked starvation, the ire of Scar and the hyenas, and venturing into unknown places, for her family. The fact she found Simba was a happy bonus. If not for her above all other characters, her home would have been doomed by Scar.

The Black Cauldron is based off of Lloyd Alexander’s The Prydain Chronicles. The book series is much better than the movie; Disney simply didn’t do the original story justice. Eilonwy is not just thrown into the movie - she’s a main character in the book series and she’s an incredibly dynamic heroine who does a LOT in the books. So unfortunately the movie just didn’t get it right.

I will say, I liked Eilonwy's gumption and determination. If the plot was starting to slow down she was generally the one to kick it going again. As well as breaking herself out of jail, and not letting herself be just a damsel in distress.
However, my favorite has to go to Tiana, another driven character, but one who you see struggle in a human way and not just due to fantastical elements. You want to see her succeed, and she wants to on her own accord. I have little doubt Charlotte would've helped Tiana more, but Tiana wanted to accomplish her goal on her terms, not just because her friend is rich.

You can't call princess Aurora a failure because there is huge improvement she has over the previous 2. She was the only princess who had clear development on why she wants to meet a prince and how she know what she wants. With Cinderella and Snow White, they just want to meet a prince and that's how they roll. In the scene where Aurora is with all the birds and other creatures, she explains that she slept and had a dream about meeting a prince and had an experience, basically, she had some reference on what it would be like. So what I think sleeping beauty did was that it took the longing for true love from the previous 2 and expanded on it explaining not just that she does, but why.

    Interesting list but here’s mine
    1. Pocahontas- She’s always been my favorite as a kid, and I strongly disagree with your opinion about her being boring and especially the romance in the movie. IGNORING HISTORICAL INACCURACY, I actually find her to be the most interesting of the Renaissance princesses. She’s actually very similar to Ariel, wanting to learn about someone so different. I feel her story focuses more on trying to make her people proud all while still being her true self, as shown with her father complimenting how much she resembles her mother. As for the Kocuom argument, the point of her refusing him is to show she is NOT obligated to return his feelings and knew what he was like her entire life, so she already knew he wasn’t the right man for her. If anything, Kocuom imo saw her as a beautiful woman and didn’t actually appreciate her inner spirit like John Smith does. There’s a deleted song where he mentions building her a house and keeping her protected from harm. And while I get its his way of showing his love, it shows he doesn’t see her independent side either. While she is the one to protect John Smith from death, not the other way around. As for the romance, it’s actually the most interesting and more developed to me. Most couples like Ariel and Eric or especially Aladdin and Jasmine literally race through a relationship. But Poca and John actually start off as friends and take the time to get to know each other better before falling in love. Heck, there’s literally a scene where she refused his kiss when she had to go home because she was conflicted about her duty to her people and how they’d see him. Also, I HATE Rolfe so much. Do not give a f*ck about the history when looking at the movie as a DISNEY story. I’m sorry but Rolfe and Pocahontas were so boring and flatter than a pancake, that is how bored I was when I tried watching the movie. They have absolutely no growth aside being friends, and he fell in love with her when she fit his definition of beauty, NOT as she truly was. I could go on, but I’ll leave it there. Also, I feel you kinda don’t understand what Pocahontas’s character is truly about. The entire movie she struggles with making her people proud, especially when she can’t make her father happy the way he wanted by marrying Kocuom. When John is arrested by her warriors, she feels awful because of how mad her entire tribe is at her for Kocuom’s death, not knowing he let his own rage and jealousy destroy him. She even says something so hurtful to John by saying things would’ve been better if they never met, because she feels he is mad at her too. But that is far from the truth from his side and how much he loves Pocahontas because of how much she changed his life. And especially during the war? That’s the ultimate point of her character, showing her finally standing up for herself and her feelings and getting her father to see the error of his ways and war wasn’t going to do anything except cause more pain and destruction for both sides. I find that pretty damn incredible she wasn’t afraid to run into the middle of a war knowing she might be killed before she could even reach John. And are we forgetting the ending? She literally chose her people’s wellbeing over John, urging him to go home so he could recover, knowing she might not see him ever again.
    1. Rapunzel- yes I have another 1. She’s so adorable and sweet. I just love how Disney took a very different approach when it came to her, her quirky and adorkable personality perfectly matched with her story of being isolated from everyone else. I just love how her sunny personality is what helps Flynn open up more and being comfortable enough to be called his real name again. Also, the girl is a painter, a true inspiration to almost everyone she meets, and has the best sidekicks ever
    2. Tiana- I feel she gets overlooked a lot when it comes to how much she actually does. She’s a very powerful woman that had to deal with a racist society along with simply being a woman, but she didn’t let that get her down. I really love her relationship with Naveen as she learns to relax once in a while!
    3. Kida- By far one of the most underrated characters. I seriously don’t understand why Atlantis isn’t more popular. Yeah the movie has plot holes and such, but I found the story really cool. She even became the first Disney queen, NOT Elsa. Plus I love how she’s one of the first characters who actually deeply cares about the wellbeing of her people and being a good queen upon her father’s death.
    4. Cinderella- Only going by the original movie, I still really love her and feel she gets waay too much criticism. She’s so sweet and caring, even towards her awful family. She tries to keep an optimistic mindset that someday things will be better, and never complains or badmouths about her terrible family, just wanting them to accept her. Now including sequels, I also really appreciate her forgiving spirit towards Anastasia in both movies, just wanting her to achieve the same happiness she’s found.
    5. Esmerelda- I honestly find her very underrated. She’s very feisty and outspoken, yet has a very sweet and caring personality and a big heart.
I guess I don’t really have a particular order for the other ones tbh. There’s some I genuinely don’t like, and others I found good but just boring. Your opinion about Moana is very interesting, however I found her to be exactly what you said about Pocahontas. I just feel she doesn’t really have any flaws aside doubting herself and abilities as a future chief of her village. I also feel Maui and the ocean are the ones that did a majority of the heavy lifting. I just don’t really see anything unique about her personality aside being kinda quirky and free spirited. Another one is Ariel. I definitely see why so many people still love her, and I appreciate her personality and feelings of belonging somewhere else. My main problem is she literally disobeyed her father the entire movie and doesn’t even apologize for making such a mess out of things. While Triton was certainly in the wrong too, he at least makes up by letting Ariel choose her destiny instead of forcing her to be someone she isn’t. But she doesn’t apologize for endangering her sisters and kingdom for Ursula. Yes she didn’t know she was being used, but she doesn’t apologize for worrying her family when they couldn’t find her anywhere, or when Triton sacrificed himself to save her soul from Ursula. And with Anna, I personally kinda found her annoying more than anything. She felt like a copy of Rapunzel, just more naive and making several reckless decisions (like trusting a dude she hardly knows with her kingdom instead of say the councilman) And while I get your point of her seeing the good in Kristoff and such, I feel her “love” for Elsa is just there because “we’re sisters” I would’ve enjoyed Anna much more as a character if it showed her actually being rebellious with her constantly sneaking out of the castle to hang out with commoners she befriended, showing she wasn’t just sniveling around for Elsa’s attention. That isn’t how distant relationships work.

Your wrong, just because Anna and Elsa are queens means nothing when they are officially confirmed princesses since the wreck it Ralph 2 movie, Mirabel is also confirmed

Base on the rules he placed on his list. Mirabel and Asha wouldn't count.
The Madrigals were not considered royals. At least, they were not seen as such by their community. They are more their protectors than anything else. And their village doesn't seem to be big enough to be called a kingdom.
While Asha is given the title of wish maker- which is just ONE of the king's duties. Aka she'll only be handling wishes.
The Queen would be the one handling the royals duties both she and the king use to do.
The only way Asha would be a princess is if the queen adopts her, as she has no heir.

You forgot Kiara from The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, because since Simba is king of pride rock and that Kiara is his daughter, Kirara is technically a princess.

Wreck it Ralph 2 was really a missed opportunity to develop Vanillope’s character. Think about it: the Vanillope we know only happened because Turbo hacked her game and turned her into a hobo. It would have been much more interesting to use the internet to meet a version of herself that never had that experience and both see what that character would have been like, maybe she would have been more like the classic Disney princess, and have the two interact. I also think they didn’t really do enough with internet based games, with the only game they looked at being some multiplayer racing game instead of a virtual pet game site like Neopets or an MMO like Warcraft or or a PVP game like Fortnite or a flash game aggregator like Newgrounds. It’s like the director of the second movie didn’t know anything about games at all.
    Anyway my favorites are
    1. Ariel. I love her desire to explore and learn, she’s probably the geekiest of the Disney princesses.
    2. Snow White. Probably the most resilient of the princesses, she responds to being sent into exile with a death sentence hanging over her head by picking herself up and taking what job she can, as a housekeeper, in order to support herself.
    3. Vanillope - Again it’s her determination to race, something she loves to do, without any of the knowledge that it would break the curse on her, that makes her interesting.

As someone who has read the first two books in the series, I hate what that movie did to Princess Eilonwy as a character. In the books, she's kinda like a combo between Kida, Jasmine and Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series. She's spunky, outspoken, stubborn, has a fiery temper and cares deeply about the people in her kingdom. She also is a mage, who learns more about her craft as the series went on. The only bit about her that shines through in the movie is possibly her temper. Other than that we learn hardly anything about her. While I know a lot of the characters got the shaft in this movie, but her case along with Gurgy are especially annoying, since it turned them into ungodly annoying or bland. I would love to see Disney tackle a live action remake of this series that stays closer to the books, because it does have potential.

A ranking list of Disney princesses that doesn’t make me mad? Putting Cinderella on top and showing her respect instead of derision? Well, you have my upvote! I agreed with just about all. Though, I would have put Belle as #2.

For Raya, at first I thought the message of the movie was to just trust people even if they're bad and I hated how they keep shoving that word down my throat.
But looking back, the actual message is actually to give a little trust so you can be trusted back. Kumandra represents people that were divided because of everyone's trust issues. And if all people can't even trust one another, then the conflict never ends. That's why it was a powerful moment for raya to take the first step of swallowing her pride and allowing Namaari to fix the gem pieces. I still think Namaari is terribly written despite her respect to the dragons and wishing the best for her people. She was still the one who started the whole mess and we never hear her apologize.
I was so happy as a southeast asian that we were getting a disney representation, but they could have chosen another theme that would suit our diversity because trust is actually complicated in southeast asia
