    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

      The macbook air 2020 has Thunderbolt 3 ports, so this monitor will work no problem. All you need is an HDMI 2.0 Adapter or an displayport adapter. If you want the same monitor but with a USB C port you can get the Q27h. Then your Macbook can even be charged with the cable that is connected to the monitor, which makes the setup really easy and convenient

      For basic youtube videos the speakers are for sure good enough. I just didnt want people to think, that the get decent / loud music lisiting quality. Any typical 20-30€ external speakers would be better for that.
      They seem to be quite tiny as they are somewhere hidden in the bottom bezel.

    Thanks for the review and very informative! May I know how thick (in cm) is the bezel? It seems like their website photos are misleading, the bezels of the real product (in your video) seems thicker than their website advertising. Also, is the stand holds the screen sturdy enough, or does it easily shaking if accidentally push or press it?

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

      The bezels are about 9mm wide on the sides and the top. From the bottom its about 2cm.

      Yeah, the marketing material is kinda flawed, i have no idea if that is in anyway legal to advice a product like that. Too be honest, i only saw the official pictures after i bought the monitor, so for me it was not like i was surprised in a bad way. Its quite understandable, if you see buy the products because of the official pictures that you kinda feel tricked. But still, i think the bezel size is really acceptable.

    Hello, what a brilliant and informative review, my compliments! A couple of question please: how do you see the option to place a standard 15,6" closed lid notebook right over the base to save space? I'm planning to buy a Lenovo Legion 5 which is designed with all the main connections at the back and the combination with this monitor in such configuration would be perfect for my use. Also, could you please explain how the audio is passed from the device to the monitor? ... because I see a similar version of this monitor with USB ports also, and wonder if audio could be passed through USB as well. Basically, if I use a DP connection should I use a separate stereo cable to pass the audio to the monitor speaker s? Thanks!

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY
      @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the compliment!
      The audio is passed through the HDMI or Displayport connection, there is no need to connect anything else. So just with one cable you get video and audio from the monitor.
      The Lenovo Q27h-10 offers a USB-C Port as well. I am just looking at the spec sheet of your Legion 5 now and indeed your notebook seems to have USB-C Port hat supports DisplayPort out. So you can just connect the small USB-C cable to the monitor to get video/audio on the monitor. The Lenovo Q27h-10 also supports charging a connected device, but as your Lenovo Legion 5 is quite powerfull, you are still better of using the dedicated power supply.
      I hope I could help you!

    • @Mattiu75
      @Mattiu75 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY Many thanks for your helpful reply! ... and regarding the option to place a closed lid notebook right above the monitor base, how do you think it would result? I imagine the base is a bit small to work as a complete support for the device, probably resulting in a bit off-center positioning, but using an appropriate support (similar to www.amazon.com/dp/B07GFF82DP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_hdmZFbWBGYPB4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) it should be good enough to work, also considering that the space between the base and the lower bezel of the monitor appears to be quite good.

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY
      @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Mattiu75 Yeah, ist going to be off center if you move it all the way back due to the hinge. I measured the base for you:
      -Its 23,5cm/9,25 inch wide (25,5cm / 10inch till the hinge starts)
      -Its 18cm long ( 7.1 inch)
      -And the hight is 11.5cm / 4,5inch
      I would just try to move it a little bit further, so the hinge is not in the way. Of course your laptop would then hang over on the sides, dont know if that bothers you. But that would provide great cooling to your notebook, as a lot of air flow is possible that way. But somekind of support like the one you linked should also work fine.

    • @Mattiu75
      @Mattiu75 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY Many thanks for your helpful clarification and considerations. Actually my main goal is to gain space in the direction of depth and therefore I would rather sacrifice the horizontal centering of the notebook in respect of the monitor base and push the closed notebook forward as much as possible (around 11 cm. if I well understood from your other replies, which is the distance between the rear profile of the base and the monitor panel back cover), also to hide all the cabling coming out at the back of the notebook and the monitor itself. I understand that the uneven centering may trigger some OCD issue but on the other hand the monitor arm is not centered itself already and I think that as long as the device doesn’t trespass the boundaries of the (left side) of the monitor bezel profile then it should be quite OK considered all my other existing constraints. Surprisingly this unusual monitor design could be used to accomodate a relevant practical need more than its peculiar aesthetic would leave to imagine in the first place. Also it seems to represent a quite good choice from a technical perspective. Keep up with the very good work you're doing with your channel! 😉

    Hey Toby, thanks for a great review. Can you help me with a few queries? My laptop only has HDMI and USB 3.1 ports.
    1. I read that 2k Netflix/Prime streaming only happens over display port. So does the monitor come bundled with a display port to HDMI cable or do I need to buy one separately?
    2. Will my 4k Firestick need an HMDI to DP converter to work perfectly? Because I can't seem to find a cheap HDMI to DP adapter online (all $100+), as it needs an active converter.
    3. If I use normal HDMI to HDMI cable to connect to the monitor, will Netflix work in atleast FHD or not?

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY
      @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. My monitor only came with an HDMI to HDMI cable.
      2. I just tried my 4K FireStick. It, for some reason, works flawlessly with Netflix and Amazon prime on this monitor, it is also clearly HD and not crappy quality. So you dont need to get anything.
      3. It seems like it will only work if you have a new Device which supports a proper HDCP standard (like the FireTVStick). For my old XPS 15 for example the screen just goes completely black when ever i try to open the Netflix app or Netflix via a browser, no matter what resolution i set on my screen.
      Your best bet is just to get a cheap USB-C to displayport adapter and an displayport cable, then you should be fine regarding watching Netflix via a laptop.

    Hello, you have a really nice review here ! I also read a lot of your comments, I have a MacBook Pro model 2019 I think, if i buy a hdmi cu display port cable can I have 75hz ? I have an adapter hdmi to type C and thats why i asked, I also have an Asus Ultrabook UX433fa only with i5-8265u processor and without dedicated video card, and I am not sure if this handles 75hz.
    The only option for Mac is a cable display port and type C ? And for my Asus ?

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY
      @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For your mac book you got several options:
      -USB-C to HDMI Cabel
      -USB-C to Displayport Cable
      -USB-C to HDMI Adapter (preferable 2.0 HDMI Standard to be sure its 75hz)
      -USB-C to Displayport Adapter (any will do)
      I would suggest you do go any displayport way, because displayport always works flawlessly. You also could take a look at the Lenovo Q27h. Its the exact same monitor as this one, but with a USB-C Port. That means you can use a USB-C to USB-C cable directly to the monitor, and the cool thing is that the monitor is also going to charge your mac book.
      It seems like your Asus laptop doesnt offer Displayport protocol via the USB-C ports, which is quite unfortunate. That means that using a USB-C to Displayport Cable wouldnt workt. Also the standard of the HDMI port of your Asus is not noted anywhere in the official specs. Therefore I would assume that its just a HDMI 1.4 Port. So connecting it via HDMI directly to the monitor probably wouldnt give you 75Hz at 2560x1440. But maybe it does, you would need to test that. A USB-C Port to Displayport adapter should still work though.

      There you get great picture quality thanks to IPS and a huge color coverage of sRGB and DCI-P3 but also 1ms lag and 144 Hz. (Of course, that monitor is also more expensive).
      If you really looking for the best possible experience you also could look into getting one dedicated gaming monitor as an second monitor, some of them a already really cheap: amzn.to/2N2WBzs

    Hi Brother, I have Mac, someone in Amazon reviews said that this won't give 1440 if we use hdmi cable and instead we should use USBC to display port cable, also he says that we can't get 75 Hz while using Mac with this monitor,
    Please let me know if you have insights about it.
    I have ordered it

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY

      Depends on which Mac you are using. 2560x1440 via HDMI is possible at 60HZ via HDMI 1.4 (that standard is almost a decade old)
      For 2560x1440@75Hz a HDMI 2.0 adapter or a usb c/ displayport connection is necessary. But it definitely works. My girlfriend uses the monitor via Displayport at 2560x1440@75Hz

    Hello @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY, thanks for the review! I bought this monitor and was wondering if you can help me. I'm used to aving monitors turning black when I set brightness and contrast to very low values, near 0. However, doing that to this monitor, leaves the image completely "normal", meaning I wouldn't say brightness is low at all, and working with apps with white background at night is still eye killing. Is this normal or did I get a broken one?
    Thanks in advance.

      Hiho Fernando! Where do you turn down the brightness? Im guessing you using a Notebook / Macbook and trying to adjust the brightness via the onboard brightness control on the keyboard ofthe notebook? That doesnt work, you cant change such settings just by being connected to a monitor. If you want to turn down the brightness you need to to that in the menu of the monitor. You find the buttons on the bottom right of the monitor.
      I hope that helps!

      @@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY Hi! Thanks for answering! No, I'm using the OSD menu from the monitor. It does work, in the sense that the brightness varies, but it doesn't get low enough for comfort at night.

      @@fcmclxxix Ohh, i am sorry for my false assumption. This monitor doesnt really go that dim at 0 zero brightness level. There is a change from 100 to 0, but its suttle. If you dont see any change at all then something is wrong.
      You also can try to lower the contrast setting, as it also effects peak brightness. For night use also the dedicated "Low Blue light filter" mode could be interesting. Other than that, you are stuck with software tweaks like that one: superuser.com/questions/1086993/dim-screen-below-minimum-brightness-level#:~:text=You%20can%20use%20alt%20%2B%20pgdn,alt%20%2B%20pgup%20to%20increase%20brightness.&text=For%20Windows%20Intel%20users%3A%20right,reduce%20brightness%20for%20your%20screen.
      Depending on the device (the graphics card to be precise) you are using, you will find that setting somewhere else. But Nvidia and AMD also offers easy tools for that. Or are you using a mac?
      I am really sorry that I didnt mention the minimal brightness or even measured it. Its really hard to find any reviews mention it, not even the really detailed review of rtings.com mentions it. Seems like a specification everyone forgets to test.

      @@LICHTCATCHINGTOBY No worries. I only found your review afterwards, when I was researching if there was something wrong with it. I'm using Linux. I found the command to set the brightness by software, but I wanted to be sure the hardware was ok.
      Even if you tested the minimum brightness, I have no idea what a good value for me would be.
      I'm starting to wonder if I should have gone with VA technologie. Or even TN. I'm usually sitting right in front of the screen.

      I am 99% sure that it will just work out of the box with any adapter. The only devices that had trouble with this monitor are quite old ones (older than 5 years) which only have a hdmi port. HDMI 1.4 and before dont handle the 75 refresh rate well.

    I saw the review on rtings.com and it mention that the sRGB XY of 88.8 percent. So that's mean after callibration it would improve at lot more? ( yours show 96%). Actually I got one more question, since I am buying a monitor for better studying experience at home, LG29wk600 is a bit bigger and should be a good option for multitasking, but this lenovo monitor have better looks in my opinion and higher resolution, what do you think?

    • @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY
      @LICHTCATCHINGTOBY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Calibration always can help quite a bit. But you could just use my profile, so you dont have to calibrate it yourself.
      You really only can answer the size question yourself. I would recommend you to just measure the size of the screen (for example on a piece of cardboard) and try it on your desk. Just look if 27 inch seems enough or if 29inch is already too big.
      Also, the aspect ratio of the screens is completely different. I am personally not a great fan of ultrawide monitors, i would just would prefer a second monitor. But thats just personal taste. Also, the Lenovo monitor has the refresh rate advantage (75hz vs. 60hz)

      As i have never used the Q24h-10 before myself, I can only guess that it uses the same OSD. It could be possible that, whatever picture profile you are using, that this setting is disabling contrast and brightness. There should be something like a "neutral" picture profile, that what i am using with the Q27, and then it works just fine for me.

      +higher refreshrate
      +lower input lag
      +AMD Freesync
      +built in speakers

      +way more ports
      +even USB ports on the side
      +USB-C Port (only on the u2419C)
      Both offer IPS, both offer good sRGB coverage, both have VESA mounts and both have a nice design. Just consider the size difference, as 27 inch is quite a lot larger than 24 inch. They are certainly both good monitors.
