    1. I like where Mike Okuda says during the original filming and effects, they didn't have the TIME and budget to fix the daytime vs night time shots of the window. Then David Rossi doing the CGI is saying we don't have the TIME for the roto work stuff on the project! I'm glad I have my non-CGI tweaked DVDs. 2. Having them show Pike turn around in his chair and the first time we see him is in a darkened room with a night scene in the window. That night time visual with the music has more dramatic impact to me than during the CGI "daytime" version! It is supposed to shock you due to his appearance. 3. Another pet peeve is 09:57, since they changed the scene to a daytime visit, why is Pike's shadow on the right wall where the window is pouring in CGI daylight? See, it works if this is at night. They should have left that alone as they induced more issues. This is not Earth, this a Starbase 11 on planet M-11, two light years from Talos IV. The audience doesn't know what the diurnal cycle of the planet is. The more I watch the CGI Pike scene of the darkened room with shadows on the interior wall then see that stupid white window, I cringe.

Absolutely. The nighttime window backgrounds give a clandestine, shady and ominous atmosphere to the Starbase scenes. Appropriate given what Spock is up to. The daytime versions completely destroy this atmosphere, as well as distracting from the shock reveal of the disfigured Pike. All they needed to do was change the daytime painting of the starbase (which fades into the close-up of Mendez) to a nightime one. Its perfectly believable that Kirk and co. had to undergo 2 or 3 hours of debriefing before they could get to see Mendez. Sometimes, they should just leave these things alone.

It’s extremely vain of them to insert themselves into the show.

Blu-Ray darkened visuals possibly for Modern OLED TV’s. Perhaps?

      Were OLEDs common in 2009?

One of the things I learned about Saturn, is that from no moon can you see the rings at an angle. All the moons are in the same plane as the rings, so you'd see them edge-on. If this world of the Starbase is a moon of the Saturn-like world, then it should be edge-on to the rings too.

About the only time I can tell the difference between the opening credits is when I see Lenny's name. The n's in Leonard and Nimoy are thinner in the computer Star Trek font than they are in the original. Otherwise, I am hard pressed to tell the difference.

ecclestonsangel I think that the new lettering is a little bit sharper than the original but I see no reason for it to have been updated or improved (If indeed it is an improvement).

@@richardanderson5424 The original lettering was done by hand by Richard Edlund (who later went to work on things like the original Battlestar Galactica, the original Star Wars trilogy, the Indiana Jones movies etc.). The new lettering is done using a font (called Horizon if I remember correctly). They do look VERY similar.

These are great comparison videos, but the transition titles are WAY, WAY too long. They should be at least half of the run time, especially for clip comparisons that are only a few seconds at best.

Right now they're 10 seconds long, which is the default setting. OK, I'll try to change them based on how much text there will be in the future

The Menagerie has just started on CBS freeview UK...noticed there's notifications re. Part 1(I think) etc...let you know how it goes...hear soon👉😷👈.an hour later "Lock him up".. ..sez Kirk...WOW!! have to watch the repeat tomorrow morning in Lockdowntown south east London LALALA AND hope part 2 is on tomorrow evening but CBS aren't that bothered..hopefully I'll be back👉💎👈...Friday morning.. I've just watched part 1 and 2 on cbs freeview UK twice(!) and I'm ready to put my abridged thought's to paper...1st I have to comment on the Orion slave girl version of Vena(?)...patronising or what!! and I guess we're not to confuse Star Trek time lines...I'm referring to Star Trek (2009) where Kirk is getting a leg over with Uhuru's flat mate...an Orion I hazard to guess...back to to Menagerie....I've watched 1 and 2 twice...and the short answer is no No NO NO NO....To much of a hotchpotch...appreciate poetic (or whatever it's called) licence...but the rebuilt Vena without blueprint really did for me...the Kraniums were just TOO TOO headstrong in the mind reading dept and were knocking up virtual copies of such perfection.... this 2 part episode does not work for me at multiple points too many to bore you guy"n"gals with...4 out of 10....though it did start well👉🇬🇧👈👉💤💤💤

God, I hate remastered crap. It's not "remastered"; it's altered. Give me original or give me death!
