Year of Hell... What can one say about this... Simply Amazing 2 parter!? It seemingly has... Everything! Strong performances... An intelligent, complex and compelling villain... One that you can actually vouch for, for a change... Outstanding battle scenes... And... My God! THAT touching scene, with Tuvok and Janeway, gets me crying my eyes out... Each and every time! For me, one of the most Powerful and Emotional scenes in ALL of Star Trek! Right up there with Spock and Kirk... And just another incredible reminder of the intense relationship between Humans and Vulcans. Wow!!! Voyager probably wasn't "up there" with, say, DS9 and TNG but, it was still a damn good series! With some amazing episodes 👍🏼
Year of Hell was clearly the best episode(s) - since it was a two parter. It was after this episode that I started to truly enjoy Voyager and their crew.
I would have put "Living Witness" as number 1 followed by season 2's spectacular "Death Wish". Other ones I'd add is the seriously underrated "The Cloud", "Prime Factors", "Faces" "Projections" and Trek's greatest love story "Life Signs". (hell, seasons 1 and 2 get such an unfairly bad rap). Season 3 also has honorable mentions with "Basics, part II" (with the always brilliant Brad Dourif) along with the important "Remember" and the clever "Before and After". I'd also add the brilliant and consequential episode "Pathfinder" which gives TNG's Reginald Barclay closure to his character arc along with having an important plot point to the overall Voyager saga. It's unbelievably underrated. "Critical Care" and "Lineage" are also underrated classics. That said, I'm glad you added "Timeless" it's a gem.
Though it doesn’t necessarily fit with all of the ethos and the themes addressed by the 1987-2005 run of “Trek”, I really thought that “The Killing Game” was a tremendous 2 hours of TV, with addressing a culture change that the Hirogen needed in order to survive, but also brought the history of WWII to shine, especially in the discourse between the Hirogen and the Nazis on the philosophical differences. It was a smartly-written episode, and well-produced all around. Also, “Scorpion” being rated lower than “Equinox” was completely fair in my book, with the ethos of “Trek” winning out in “Equinox”. Finally, with the HM to “Message in a Bottle”, I say this: “Attack pattern… Alpha?” “Specify target.” “ROMULANS!”
Yeah, Scorpion 1 and 2 deserves a higher rank. They might be the most visually arresting episodes, and amplifies the personal conflicts. Fifteen BORG cubes!!! And a bigger baddie than the Borg. Course Oblivion is underrated, as it is extremely unique in Trek stories. But, overall a good list.
'The Thaw' should have been in the top 5 for me. Loved how it managed to be genuinely scary, something Trek as a whole steered away from. Also, the ending was very satisfying.
True, what was the point of having it referenced in before and after at all if the bit of knowledge she gained from that wasn't going to be used. She may not have known details about the species or their technology but she did know that they were chronoton torpedoes. Tuvok and maybe Balana and a few others could have figured out some sort of defense against them even if it wasn't 100% effective.
As I like Voyager the most of all Star Trek series, I have to say that these are some very intersting picks.. Maybe no the episodes themselves (I like all these very much and most of them are high up on all-time lists anyway), but the particular order.. Frankly, if I did a similar video, I'm afraid I'd have to go for a "top 50" list or so, as I'd include so many episodes.. Night loses points for me because it was the perfect opportunity to stick another pip on Harry Kim's collar, and they didn't do it. Given that the showrunners were so incompetent, they didn't even know an ensign is supposed to make lieutenant, it's amazing the show was as good as it was.
The thing is there were a ton of ensigns on that ship and they couldn't all make lieutenant, but I agree with you about Kim as he was a bridge officer.
I also think it would've been amusing for her to promote Harry to Lieutenant when she demoted Tom. Would have been funny to see Harry as his superior officer.
I always think of Voyager as the Star Trek version of Space 1999. To a point that several episode of Voyager is very similar to episodes from Space 1999. Harvesting other people's organs to save their race from extinction.
It also addressed a very interesting very controversial subject, regarding whether or not an individual has the right to decide when to end their life based on their perception of their own suffering.

A very difficult decision considering Voyager was my favorite Star Trek series. "Think Tank" was my favorite episode. The premise behind the epidode was cool. I thought actor Jason Alexander was fantastic in this episode. "Do they know that you know that they know this is a Hazzari trap?"
To me, Voyager captured that intrepid spirit of TOS more effectively than its sister shows did, which makes Janeway my penultimate favorite second only to the man himself James T. Kirk.
Interestingly the writers initially wanted year of hell to be a season long arc but the show runners rejected that idea… would have been interesting to see how that would have played out.
As i went through your list, i have to agree. You ranked Scorpion way too low LOL. I’m also kinda disappointed not to see any light-hearted episodes in the list or even among the honorable mentions. I particularly like the doctor-centric episodes, my favorite of which is Tinker Tailor Doctor Spy. The writing here is simply brilliant, IMHO.

Waking Moments sounds interesting on paper until you think about it some more. Who feeds the sleeping aliens? Who cleans their poop and pee? The episode really falls apart upon closer inspection. I wish, they made a "year of hell" season with all the consquences.... the episodic format really hurt the show. Star Trek can work with a season long story (as seen on Enterprise and Strange New Worlds).
I don't disagree with the choices, but the highlight the fundamental flaws with the series. Well, Course Oblivion honorable mention seems funny. I find that episode hilarious as everyone melts, and typical of Voyager where anything bold winds up not actually happening to the crew we'll go on watching. Year of Hell, Timeless, the third episode of the series itself, parts of the series finale. They can only do that so many times before "Why should we care?" becomes the response. And that's true of Trek as a whole. They've played that reset button card too many times. Equinox could've been better. They should've hinted at another Starfleet vessel out there months in advanced. And it really suffers in in part 2. They had to redeem Ransom in part 2 because they had no ending planned in advance. It also needed to come sooner on the series, where certain Maquis might want to join the Equinox crew but the Maquis/Starfleet tension thing was dumped so early that it was almost a waste of a series premise. It's hard to judge the show fairly because the episodic nature hampered the series concept.
Your list is completely wrong. It should go thusly: Day of Honor, The Gift, Ship in a Bottle, Tuvix, Jetrel, Basics, Scientific Method (cuz Seven looks good in brown ❤), and Caretaker as #1. Learning curve, faces, and phage.
Voyager to me was always a bit disappointing, I didn't hate the show, but it is seven seasons of many missed opportunities to do something that could've been great. The showrunners were so afraid to take chances that they all but completely abandoned the premise of the show and turned it into TNG lite. The Starfleet/Maquis feud was conveniently forgotten about, any chances that they did take were all undone by time travel bs. It's really a crying shame that this show could've been something truly special if Berman and Co. only had the courage to see it through.
I agree they probably didn't do enough with it in the beginning, but it makes complete sense they would eventually work towards the common goal of getting home. The mauqi weren't exactly some blatantly evil faction, it was compromised of many former starfleet officers.

Where the heck is the fear clown episode. That one is fantastic, Janeways closing speech gives me goosebumps.
Shattered and Course Oblivion were standouts. Where's Pathfinder? That episode gave the Voyager crew hope they would make and it gave me goosebumps.

My personal belief is that while Voyager overall sits a tier or two below TNG and DS9, the cream of the crop stands amongst the best of all Trek
The show is a weird concept. One which implies a strong multi season story arc yet still executed in a strict standalone episode format.
They undid everything in "Year of Hell". None of that occurred. It's the dumbest ending you can do in time travel.
