That squirt at the end cracked me up! People who don’t understand breast feeding are the most vocal unfortunately. It’s liquid gold and it’s giving her so many antibodies and she needs that with a compromised immune system. When I was nursing my daughter, if my glucose was high I would nurse her and it would drop it down immediately.
And breast milk tastes like the milk left over in the bottom in the cereal bowl.

While I agree that nursing is a choice, and how long to nurse is between the child and the person nursing only, I have to disagree that nursing offers the benefits that you claim. The science on this does not back you up. Terms like “liquid gold,” tend to sound judgmental to people who cannot, or choose not to nurse their children. Formula is absolutely equitable to breastmilk. That is what the science shows to be true. And I say this, as a mother who fed their child from their breast, pumped and fed from a bottle, and formula fed her children.

oh, I absolutely would continue breastfeeding her! Anything, and I mean ANYTHING that will help her autoimmune system, go for it. so many people do NOT understand that Type I is a completely, totally different disease than Type II. I nurseries my son as long as I could, which was only 5 months because he was so hungry, and I simply didn't have enough milk ever so had to supplement with formula and then he started on cereal when he was two months old! He was diagnosed with Type I when he was 27 years old and is now 40. Not a day goes by that I don't worry about how he is doing. He's using the same system as you use for Addie, and he's doing so much better. I would be giving Chi Chi to Addie whenever she wants it. This issue with breastfeeding is ONLY in the U.S. and it's beyond ridiculous. God bless y'all.

I could see if she was 4 or 5 then I could see why people say mean things. I Breastfeed my twins until they were 1 year old I wish I could of done it alittle longer but I couldn't get anything done and they had a brother that is 2 years older and I would bring him back and forth to speech therapy and I just couldn't keep up with the demand...lol plus the pediatrician told me to put them on whole milk.

I said the exact same thing I was like by 4 in my opinion they shouldn't be getting breastfed because they will literally be being very independent by the age of 5 when they start school but because she is diabetic she needs the good stuff breast milk gives and she's still little and the mom said it's at bed time and if she needs to be comforted then it doesn't sound like she is doing it that often so people should leave her alone

From both sides of the fence. Some ppl believe that extended breast feeding may cut off behaviours that allow for development. Example; long term breast feeding means a child has less opportunities to learn holding weight in a cup, bringing it to their mouth, what’s up and what’s down etc. There are pro’s and con’s for every option. Worldwide average age to wean is 7. I long-term nursed my son. He is 29, and I credit it partially for our close relationship. He was also not sick until he was in high school (we had obviously stopped nursing by then...) We also did co-sleeping. You do what is right for you! 💛
You are doing an awesome job with her!. If it helps soothe her at this age in dealing with her diabetes, go for it. Toddlers can be "stressful" enough. Having to deal with finger sticks, pod changes and sensor changes adds so much more. Any help is a blessing.

OMGOSH People MAKE me So Angry over A MOTHER FEEDING HER CHILD! IT IS NOT A SEXUAL THING! Kid's that are 5 Year's Old Going to School, Maybe NOT From The Breast, Pump & Give It to them in a Cup. It Is NOT Wrong! People Think They Can Force What They Think on to Other's when it is NOT THEIR PLACE! DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT FOR YOU & YOUR CHILD. If They DON'T like it, DON'T WATCH!! Why Does a Mother's Body Produce Milk, TO FEED THEIR CHILDREN! Breastfeeding Is Way BETTER then Formula! Formula is An Option When Mother's Milk Doesn't Come in or Doesn't Have Enough. I Tried but Mine Didn't Come In. My Kids Were Allergic & Had to Have Soy. I felt Bad I couldn't Provide For Them. DON'T Let ANYONE STOP You from FEEDING Her! ❤ You are Doing a Great Job!!

You keep it going as long as you want. I wish I could have fed my babies for just a year. I only got to feed mine for 4 months. People need to mind their own business and maybe if they did a little research they would see how beneficial it is for the little ones to be breast fed for as long as possible. Don’t let others make up your mind and or feel ashamed to feed your baby all that golden precious milk. Girl if you can supply it, go for it.

American Academy of Pediatrics says the following 3 things:
    1. They recommend breastfeeding for up to 6-12 months.
    2. Breastfeeding beyond 1 year can cause a lisp
    3. Breastfeeding does enhance speech development however breastfeeding for to long can in fact stunt a child’s development
So these are just the facts everyone can decide what they think is right for their child. I think all kids are probably different ❤

😂 😂 😂 they say to 2 years or beyond! I'm a lactation consultant. Everything you said is a lie. Wow! No child has a lisp from breastfeeding or had stunted development. No studies have ever been done to say that. National average age to self wean is 4-6 years where the child looses ability to pull the milk out. I've known yes child to self wean before age 3 without mom helping.

My step mom is Thai and she was very surprised to see my son eating solids as a baby. They nurse their children in Thailand until 4 or 5 years old according to my dad and they don’t really introduce much solid food early on. Breastfeeding is completely natural and is super healthy. Nursed my first born until 13 months and hoping to make it to 16 with our second.

I breastfed my sons up until they were two. Because we have allergies in the family the pediatrician told us this was the minimum time they needed to build up their immune system.
Also: gross??? What is the matter with people? It is natural, the best pain med in the world, calms an upset stomach, is always fresh and at hand. A hundred times better than powder stirred into tapwater (ugh).
People live in an oversexualized world, see breasts in ads and films all the time. But when it comes to the natural function of these breasts, they are grossed out. Men who always wanted these for themselves did a very good job in turning these things upside down.

Breast milk is probably the best thing you can give your child. It boosts their immune system and provides more nutrients than anything else they could eat. It’s the most natural thing a child can do, how is that gross? I’m pretty sure the person who wrote this comment doesn’t have the slightest clue about babies or how to raise them.

Please don't let anyone tell you to stop breastfeeding her, that is the best possible thing you could be giving her right now especially since she has type1diabetes most amish mothers breastfeed until 2 to 4 years old and they don't have half the health problems as other people do and I know this for a fact since I was born and raised amish!
