Never a better breakdown for the carry methods - EXCELLENT points! Too many people trying to do EVERYTHING with chest rigs. I roll with LBE but very open on the front for several reasons: release of heat build up and dirt diving/crawling. It's also much easier with LBE to climb over stuff, hump the hills, take more stuff with you and all while NOT looking like a Ninja Turtle!

I'm guessing 'when' you were in (Semper Fi - me '84 - '88 ALICE gear) by your face and length of hair (I didn't cut mine for 7 years). You didn't mention the FLC 'the FLiC' and I'm betting you might have been issued. I'm interested in your comments on that - I find them quite functional.

Great stuff. I'm in the Southern coastal swamp and run a belt kit similar to what I used in 90's Africa. Better heat dispurtion. I find most guys don't understand the difference between waistline and hips, that's why they don't like belt kits.

I’m of the mindset that it’s actually to have all, or at least some variation of these. This way you have setups that are mission specific. Same with your firearms. I don’t have just one general purpose setup. I have multiple setups in multiple calibers to cover a vast range of scenarios that i may encounter. Being over prepared, is being prepared, in my book. It's hard to find a quality mesh vest with a heavy duty zippered front but that's what I like best because the weight is distributed evenly and everything is held close to the body, can still go prone. The one I have has 4 sewn on mag pouches with velcro closures that hold 1 or 2 AR mags each. It has a big velcro square bottom front where you can choose to attach either 2 more mag pouches or a pistol holster. It has 2 small pouches left and right and 3 pistol mag pouches chest high. It has 2 big inside zippered pouches, 3 molle strips across the back to attach whatever and an attached pistol belt if you want to attach other stuff

I like vests too. Ever looked at an FLC (Fighting Load Carrier)? Military issue - mesh, covered with MOLLE, heavy duty zipper and fully adjustable. It does not have a method to attach a belt though. The LBV-88 Enhanced is heavier and has sewn on mag pouches, heavy duty shoulder pads and loop snaps for attaching a web belt. The FLC is more adaptable but again - no belt.

I dislike belt kits due to the bulk. Most of what I do as a LARP is recon, but I also have a QRF "designation". I find for survival sustainment for longer operations will be in my back pack, otherwise if I need more mags I keep it on a belt.
I'm currently however fielding the SADF battle vest. I find it to be better than a belt kit while maintaining a chest rig style functionality thus far. But I cannot deny that the belt kit is the superior method (over the chest rig) for long range + all the gear you need.
