Thank you. I just received the new nest mini when I bought the nest guard and was questioning whether I should open it and switch out my home mini. Thank you again!
I have a couple of Nest Mini's and a couple of Home Mini's and both are quite acceptable for sound, if you turn the bass up in the Home app. The Nest Mini definitely has a quite noticeable increase in quality and bass response. I haven't noticed a difference with the third mic in my situation. The main thing I noticed is the two little LEDs where the Volume controlls are. My Home mini has always had the feature and still does, but just doesn't have the LEDs on it. Maybe in the future the ultrasonic will have more functionality added, but for now it doesn't make much difference with my use case at this stage.
I have bought 3 Google Nest Minis, and I have been mostly happy with them, especially with the better audio. Howver, I have been frustrated that I cannot cast from a Google Nest Mini to another device the music from an app like Spotify. Last week I found that I can, with the Move command, transfer audio from radio stations using the radio stations call letters to another device from a Google Nest Mini. For example, by using my voice I say to a Google Next Mini "Move the music to the Max", and then the classical music from that radio station playing on the Google Nest Mini is trasnferred to my Google Next Hub Max. I wish I could do the same with the music on Spotify, but I guess I just will have to be patient.
Hey Brad! So you're talking about the transfer music command not working with services outside of Google's own...it's supposed to work. I haven't actually tried it recently but I wonder why it wouldn't!
I love it. I have sort of the same set up in my little man cave. Mini on the left wall, Nest on the right, & the Hub in the middle, on my desk. When I tell the Hub to "ROCK THE CAVE!", It broadcasts all three speakers with excellent sound!
2 things that are better on the nest mini. Finally Google seem to confirm the far field mics are not good enough, finally added a 3rd mic, the second reason is it does has better sound, slightly more bass & a better rounded sound.
I still am going to keep my regional Google Mini. For what i am using it for it is just fine for now. I don't have a Smart house as some people do. Maybe down the read it will change. I was noticing that some people were having some issues with the mini not hearing them or not hearing them right. I have cut the power off ( about 5 or 10 min.) about once a month, that seemed to help my same problem. P.S. I sent you something, but you never responded. Then yesterday it was returned, it looked like it had been damaged and was partly opened. Taped shut with a note, that said YUMMY !!
Same, and when the first gens are floating around on eBay for under $20 USD, they are still a great value for a basic smart speaker for use in a guest bedroom, or small bathroom.
I found out The difference between These Two this Morning and I gotta say I was really impressed of what The difference are, I'm thinking buying a Google Nest Mini whenever I get a Chance It's a good thing that Christmas is Coming Up and it's a good thing that I Found one at Wal-Mart 😁
Just replaced all my minis and Lenovo 10 display with echos and dots. The minis became useless with the Google updates in the beginning of November. They would just sit there flashing lights after the updates. They worked perfectly the 10 months prior. We love the Amazon devices and would never go back.
I will probably wait until the fall/winter to upgrade. My existing home minis are workings well enough at the moment so I’m not too motivated to replace them until more new features are available
I’ve got 6 Google Home Mini’s. Overtime, their ability to understand the folks in my home seems to have decreased. Could you do a video on your experiences, suggestions to changes in settings, locations, etc? Is it the age of the hardware? Is Google changing the algorithms? I’d love to know your thoughts. They also consistently hear male voices better than female voices. Any thoughts on how to improve that?
I don't think it is. My less than 2 weeks old Nest Hub started to not understand me correctly starting yesterday. Also had that issue on my 2 Home Minis
I’ve noticed the degradation of Google’s original speakers as well. Maybe it’s a subliminal sign from Google for us to upgrade to the Nest Mini. I won’t be. I will get a smart display instead.
It almost sounds like they are pulling an "apple scam" and tuning them down on purpose so people will upgrade hoping for better results? Upgrade = more money for the tech elite companies.
I have three original mini's and I am currently happy with them. I am wanting a Google Nest Hub Max, balking at the cost and needing my wife to buy into using the technology. I hope she approves.
Thanks Brian, Do you happen to know a way to get your google mini to ring when your cell phone is ringing? not necessarily to be able to answer from the device but just to know if you are getting a call coming in and your actual cell phone may be out of hearing range.
Nice video, Brian. I bought a Nest Mini a little while ago, as if I really needed another one of these things. But the price was good and my curiosity was high. And the color matches my bedroom wall color. :) The sound is really pretty good. The rate of good outcome hits is really good too. I use a muted Lenovo clock to show the time.
The ultrasound technology cold be used to activate cameras, lights and notify you if you’re away from home. But the power source has to be addressed as we now have to put them near a power socket.
I needed another mini in my house and looked at the nest mini. Was rather put off by the 15 watt current draw spec as opposed to the 5W of the Google mini. Do you know if the 15W spec is for the unit in stand by or when it's rocking and rolling. It can add a serious amount of parasitic current draw in one's home particularly if you have a number of devices.
You have a video to show smart homes for dummies and where do you start I just bought the Google smart hub 7-in I believe just to start and where do I go from there?
Lately my Google Home Mini (not Nest) speakers have been really slow and sometimes not hearing what I’ve said at all. I had always put Google speakers above my Amazon speakers, but my now Echo Dot turns on Wemo devices seconds faster. I live in Australia
@@AutomateYourLife I have already paired all of my homes, home minis and nest minis. Only Hub and Hub Max stand alone! It's definitely an improvement on my whole-house audio. Might get interesting if Google decides to be able to bind a pair of nest minis to a Hub Max for a mini theater!
I was wondering why the change in power cords. Would the onboard processing have any benefit to listening to audiobooks? I like listening to one when I drift off to sleep.
i'm not sure about the home mini but the nest hub got the ultrasonic sensing feature on a software update, it basically uses the mics to detect when a person is close to the device so i don't see why that feature would not be available on the home mini
The reason I make a differentiation here is because I don't believe the mics are good enough, nor are there enough on the original Google Home Mini. I think Google's made a determination that the old mic setup wasn't enough to do ultrasonic reliably. Just my opinion and not based on a guarantee out of Google or anything.
@@AutomateYourLife yeah i heard you, i was assuming too since the regular Nest Hub(not the Max) is in the same generation as the Home Mini, but the Nest Hub came out later than the Home Mini that's probably why?, i don't know really😂😂😂😂.

I can get it turn on and off that’s it. I tried asking google home to list out the commands but doesn’t work
I'm drooling over the idea that the nest may have Chromecast support. I'm not so happy that they went away from the micro usb standard. Would it have not been as easy to have a notice in Google home app or somewhere about the under power? The raspberry pi did it with a visual notification.
I would tend to agree with ya! I think a visual LED notification would have been perfect with an in-app notification. There are of course other reasons that we won't know but...it is what it is at this point.
Well considering there is this video explaining the differences, I have to say the marketing for the nest home mini was a failure. I consider myself someone who actively keeps up with Google products and even I thought it was only a rename without anything else added. I didn't even know I'd need to upgrade. Let alone there being any new features. Then you have the confusing word choice for Chromecast built-in. This seems like a continuous trend with Google as of late to fail with their hardware/branding efforts. The Pixel 3/4 is a prime example of this and under performing against third-party Android devices like the Galaxy.
So the first version is smart, but not as smart as silly owners who use a power supply that is under powered. They could have fixed that be having the device let you know the voltage is getting too low during high demand times. OR have it self limit what current draw it can make as the voltage drops, but let you know why.
Thank you so much because I was confused that what are the differences between them and this video explains it very well please go a giveaway of google nest hub max
Is there a smart smoke detector I can disable with my voice? Ours went off5 times between Thanksgiving cooking and Christmas cooking and it’s a pain in the tush to take them down then put them back up
