i think if you have a "high flow" air cleaner then you are getting the max air the throttle body can handle. sure some may flow a bit better if they had a better/bigger throttle body but stock is stock , referring to the throttle body and intake ports, injectors. a mechanic/machinist/ racer out west on youtube . Tatro Machine did a vid on the subject. it made a lot of sense to me. on a carb bike its the length of the intake manifold and as long as its the same size as the intake ports. that is why you see drag bikes with long intakes with the carbs out on the end. on EFI bikes its the diameter of the throttle body and the injectors. if you look at the cleaner you just put on. its big but it appears to reduce down to the same size as the one before. it might help some but not much i think. it does look good sure. if the base of that cleaner is any bigger than the current throttle body then a bigger one of those will maximize the air. if that made sense.. lol putting stuff to words isnt my strong suit . why dont Tab make a stainless pipe for you? i mean they make pipes. just swap the type of metal. or make a stainless head pipe with a big 50 cal short muffler...dont they have a custom/R&D shop? if Tab cant or wont make a short 2 into 1 then i say look for a custom fab guy. i do feel it will need a heatshield still or you will be burning your leg off like the last stainless pipe you had lol. just my thoughts. hope they gave you ideas lol. good vid
my roadking had a hi flow and was tuned by harley, i switched the hi flow to the HEAVY breather and bought the dynojet and tuned it and it does make a difference in my opinion, but also it was a SE Tuner before the dyno jet so there’s that.
You're switching from a non forced flow to a forced flow air cleaner.. King of the baggers bike is meant go wide open all the time.. Forced flow is a good choice and it is tuned for that. Street application on a forced flow air filter without a tune may have some subtle issues.. But yeah it looks badass...
Would you consider putting mid-mount pegs on it? Think it would be cool if Advan created some pegs, brake pad, and shifter peg to match their vengeance line.
On the High-Flow question: Not a Harley tech, but am an engineer. The extreme air cleaner has a much higher filter surface area than the old one, so it would maintain the same flow rate while moving a much higher volume of air, e.g. with a higher displacement engine or higher rpms. Also, at high speeds the pressure of air flowing past the filter actually drops, which means the bike has to work harder to suck air in the faster it goes. More surface area combined with that ram-air hole in the front would help counteract that pressure drop. Fun fact: the drop in pressure as air flows over a surface is the same effect airplane wings use to generate lift.
Lots of folks go with the Krause bar set up but I’d love to see you give Thrashing Supply a go for the bars. They have some cool looking stuff that seems to offer a number of different combos to get the best fit and feel for you. I hated the stock bars on my RGU and had them gone in the first 1K miles. My only regret is I wish u had waited a little longer for the Thrashin bars to come out. I think I’ll eventually end up going that route. This build is gonna be sick!
I had to put new bars on mine in the first two weeks because those bars are just horrible. I'm looking at what pipes to put on myself I was thinking the S&S diamondback but I'm looking at a few different ones right now.
Two things you look like your missing a cover on the back of the filter element and I found that you need anti-seize on the screws that hold the elbow on the bike and/or change the screws out for stainless steel. I have had a problem twice removing the filter for cleaning.
The st breather is find for 140hp. It does come from the factory with a paper filter, so getting the kn replacement filter will allow a little extra flow. Harley sells the replacement filter on their site.
Oh I'm always changing my bike. I bought a pristine 98 Fatboy. With 13,000 miles a few years, I merely took it apart I saved all the tens and everything that somebody could put it back to how it was from the factory and then I said about making my own..... Just like tinkering around..
I'm thinking with all the RAM air your going to get at speed you will have to retune the motor for richer mixture , When you have forced air at speed into the motor definitely will lean it out more if its not tuned for it. I love the way it looks too but I like that double S&S intake too wish that was in black !! That intake makes that 117 stand out too !!
Mr. Monkey, awesome that you have a new bike to turn into a performance bagger. Tucker Speed out of Utah makes performance swingarms and other specialized parts for the performance bagger series. They are great guys and might assist in some great parts/ideas! Good luck on the build and look forward to seeing the bike built!
Years ago, one of the magazines did a test of the most popular air cleaners in a wind tunnel with a person in the seat. Most of the popular ones that stuck out like a sore snorkel were some of the worst. One of the best was the classic S&S teardrop!
Exhaust: RB Racing LSR 2>1 with Black Hole muffler. Long tube but worth it. Stainless with silver ceramic coating and get the tip pointed out for best sound. Headlight: 2023 CVO headlight looks very racy with its "pushed out of the fairing" aero design that won't trap air in the front of the fairing.
Please, please vent the head bolts and trans cover. I would love to see a bore scope after a few miles into the bore. As compared to a stock bike with the already crazy carbon build up they get even after a few thousand miles.
On my lectraglide I had a big screaming eagle sucker, and it only got dirty in one portion of the filter, I think it was around the lower half, and not all the way around the bottom. I think no matter how much filter is exposed, it only pulls through a limited area of the filter. Without opening up the intake more, you probably get diminishing returns at some point on the filter size.
Harley uses way too much thread lock when assembling these bikes... I scratch my head as to why. I have reviewed some stock dyno runs that shows the stock M8 tune much richer than the twin cams. I think you are safe with that filter. Beautiful bike. My 20 Freewheeler trike engine seized on me with 8500 miles. I went back to two wheels and purchased a 23 Street Glide. A nice machine :-)
My 22 road glide is also in white sand pearl but my engine is not as blacked out as yours. I have this chrome and black glued on badge on the tank instead of the written black logo. The problem is that I love it with more chrome (not as much as the Electra Glide classic I had) but I like the black set up also. I guess I need the one I have AND a blacked out version. Yea, I just need two Harley’s that’s it!
I run the Ness 65 Degree Velocity Air Cleaner and it if pretty open so I did get a "pre filter" or what used to be called a rain sock for it. 1. Bug soup is difficult to wash out and 2. I think it looks cool
Suggestion for your shorty 2 into 1 pipe Bassani. I run it on my 110 CVO. Makes great midrange power. Looks and sounds good as well. Plus you don't see it everywhere you go
Could you share how you feel about modifying the air cleaner and install an External Breeders System where it prevents oil from the heads to be fed into the carburetor? I just wanted to know what your opinion is so it can better help me with the decision of making the modification. I'm certain many of your viewers would like to know how you feel about this system as well. Thanks
horsepower inc. has a stainless shorty that, according to a youtube vid, dyno's well. sp concepts has a reverse cone stainless shorty. spc is close to me so i rode up there for visit. i was interest in a stainless shorty, until my mechanic says short pipes lose power in the mid range, plus i decided i did not want to polish them to bring them back to newish looking pipes. chrome will work for me. i have khromewerks slips ons now. should i have a desire to change pipes, i will go with the khromewerks 2 into 1 in chrome.
I don't think it's over the top, but I'd like it more if it blended in with the bike more. even the filter color would help with that. I also know your going to do a lot more with it so I guess that doesn't matter.
TBR shorty turn out have them build it especially for your bike. They’ll do it it’ll cost a little more like minded and it’ll look similar to all the other ones would just be your dimensions that’s what I got on my 124 big bore
LA chopper road glide kage fighter bars since you don’t wanna relocate the gauges. I have a set of their apes, great quality nice solid feel and great customer service the 2 times i needed it.
I’m very interested to see what bars you go with on this bike. If you want the performance of t-bars without blocking your infotainment. You might wanna look at Lucky Dave’s heavy hitters Sevens. The heavy hitter bars also allow you to keep your ignition switch. Just my two cents. Can’t wait to see what you do with this bike
I’m excited to see what you do to the ST. I bought the same bike in White Sand Pearl a few weeks ago. I live in Loxahatchee and would be interested in the 4” Zombies when you are done with them. I’ve only got 300 miles on mine so far and saving to upgrade my seat. Keep up the great content.
Check out Burns Stainless for the exhaust, they have a short and long 2-1. It’s very expensive but the quality and craftsmanship is the best I’ve seen. I believe they are the ones that make Moonshine Horsepower’s head pipe for baggers. I got mine ceramic coated black and even the inside of the pipe was coated to help with heat and flow.
I have a chrome Heavy Breather on my RG. With my long legs, it does hit the inside of my thigh, and at times is annoying. I have looked, but haven’t found anything I really like. For me it not worth spending hundreds if I really don’t like the looks.
I put a step up saddleman on my street glide st and I had to exchange it for a extended reach step up as I didn't like riding almost with my knees on my handlebars
Looks good , does it need a sock when riding in the rain? Trask 2 into 1 sounds nice. I’m contemplating installing a performance machine air cleaner , do I need to get a tuner for it?

One thing I can say about the "open end" type filters, at least on a "tuner car", is that they make a whooshing sound at higher RPMs that you can hear. With an aftermarket exhaust, I don't know how well you'll be able to hear it. I loved that sound in my car.

Go for a full length 2-1. I'd like to see a bone breaker performance demolisher on it. Prove their numbers compared to a similar exhaust like a d&d. Similar pipe. But about 500 dollars cheaper. Maybe a hp geared cam. I'm doing a cycle rama 485 cam. Soo of course I'd like to see what that would do in your bike. Maybe with a 64mm intake/ throttle body and injectors. @@jolkraeremeark6949 yeah, I have the extreme on my bike currently. @@jolkraeremeark6949 yeah, I have the extreme on my bike currently. When I called to ask if they had one is stock he said yes they did, then he looked the price up and told me it was like $290-something and he couldn’t believe it himself. He told me he’d get back with me and that he was going to find out if that was the legit cost or an error and surely enough it was the actual cost.
You need a rain sock on that breather. That’s for racing on dry days.
You need to do a front fairing lowering kit.
When is Advanblack releasing the Pro Monkey seat?
Not sure but probably in the next month I would think!
