Are the Chinese crazy? In a desert covering an area of 42,200 square kilometers, nearly 30,000 desert farmers have created an agricultural miracle that shocked the world through their hard work and wisdom. They transformed the stubborn desert into fertile farmland and planted nearly 4,000 acres of potatoes.
After five years of planting experiments, the yield of these potatoes per acre is now as high as 430 kilograms, and the total annual output has reached 1.7 million kilograms. Today, this achievement has attracted widespread attention from the international community. Agricultural experts from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other places have come to this once barren desert, hoping to learn this technology.
So, how did China grow potatoes in the desert? Will this kind of sand control method be popularized in deserts in more countries in the future?

Am I missing something? 430kg an acre is scary bad. I just looked it up and they recommend 1600 pounds an acre of seed potatoes. If they planted the acre normally it;s like planting 10 potatoes and getting 5 back? They probably planted a few hundred kg of seed potatoes and got back the 430kg but that's not much food an acre. If you don;t know the topic do your research.

Big question is where the water came from, and where it went?
Not seeing usual permaculture water retention/management mechanisms in the video.
I’m guessing potato also isn’t historically native to the area vs other permaculture crops; which also are diverse and not monoculture like potatoes.
    How sustainable is it really?

None of this makes any sense. There is no soil/materials or water. How could that happen? It is perhaps dry lands, not "desert"

They have converted desrts of shifting sand dunes to forest lands the size bigger than your 5th largest state, new mexico. This does not include the desert they have converted to grass lands. NASA have attested to this as they see the greening of Chinafrom their satellit cameras.

With the way the Chinese carry on hacking &, copying, one has to ask, did they truly invent the water milll, gun powder, printing and wotnot? Possibly marco polo was blown away, reporting back what he'd seen rather than who actually invented stuff. Whose to say the Chinese didn't steal or copy such from an advanced culture like they do 2day?

Did you know that potatoes are one of those Columbus discovered in South America(along with Tomatoes and chili and corn). and took home to Europe and saved Europe from famine?
In south America, potatoes were freeze dried and kept as preservative food(for nearly indefinite time).
