I agree on ammo cost; I want to get into PRS to shoot the local matches with an efficient round. I thought of the 223 but limits myself, so I'm going with the 6BR. Most people say it's the best starter round anyway.
All makes perfect sense to me mate, thanks for all the work and fantastic info you have put out for us to learn from over the past year, wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year,, cheers Yogi ✌️🇦🇺
I'm a 6.5CM fan. I'm perfectly happy with this video. I have flathead screwdrivers, Philips head screwdrivers, and I have wrenches. It's all about having the right tool for the job.
Merry Christmas Keith. Having 6dasher built for F Class Nationals. 105Hy, Alpha srp brass. What dies? Have Coax press. Bushing style/size? Vld seating stem?Separate expander mandrel?
A lot has changed since I started shooting Dashers 12 years ago. My methods are based somewhat on the technology that was available back then. Now multiple companies have different products that might be better, but I haven't tried them because what I currently have works.
I'm looking forward to checking out your load development. I haven't shot competitively before but im going to put together a rifle for prs. I'm leaning towards 6gt but looking at 25 creed/gt/6dasher also. The cost factor is definitely playing a role in my decision making. My 6arc is cheap and easy to load for.
6arc should be, Hornady stole it from a guy who did all the work. The 25cal is really looking good. Especially in the dasher to 47 case capacity range.
@ a 204 works but due to the wind where I live it’s hard to get hits past 300 yards. I live in central Wyoming ant it’s real windy here. At 300 w 69 grain match king outta 556 ya have to hold over a full mrad or more
The 6.5 CM did for me exactly what I needed from it. It made me a better shooter. It's off now so I can take advantage of it for the big field matches later in the year. Most likely, I will be chambering another one for next year. Every cartridge is like a different club in the golf bag. You wouldn't use a 3 wood for a chip shot, or to practice chip shots. I'm also torn about whether to try other cartridges like the 25's. They are fun to shoot too!
@@winninginthewindas I already posted but I wanna ask since we’re here. I’d like to hear your thoughts about the 25 creedmoor. I already have a 6.5 and it’d super easy for me to switch to a 25 but I’d hear what the experts have to say on that caliber.
I have fired a total of 2 or 3 rounds of 25 Creedmoor. It was a friend's rifle, so I didn't get into the intricacies of the load. Recoil was comparable to the 6.5 Creedmoor, but the BC was a little higher. My sample size was so low that I can't even tell you if the load grouped well...
@@winninginthewind i hear you, that's why I have that orange shirt also. I get smelly really fast wearing it though. At the range this summer 104 degrees 85% humidity in Texas and i was quite the smelly sob!
Correct me if I am wrong but is not the 6 dasher the 243 win shortened among other mods, In any case I believe your time on the 6. 5 Creedmoor will make you a better 6 dasher shooter in competition as everybody at some point needs to learn to control recoil and I think no better calibur for that purpose than the 6.5 Creedmoor, whether for competition or hunting.
Barrelwear on 6.5cm vs 6gt? My 6.5cm works great to atleast 3500+ rounds and guessing a higher velocity 6mm wears the barrel faster 🤷♂️ And how is Signatur on a 105 vs a say 140 at 600+ yards?
I do think the gt is better. But i think i also have figured out something go to load data the highest load just say 30.5 your node should be about 6 tents lower and 3 to 4 tents in a good load so test 30.0 ,29.9,29.8,29.7,29.6,29.5,29.4 and I'll bet you find your node and how long your node is a good barrel will be 3 tents long a great barrel will be 4 tents with good powder and bullets my choices would be the 1st 108 berger with varget or n133 2nd 105 varget or n133
Switched ace brake to the Bonita on a 6 dasher yesterday and checked zero. Sent 10 rounds off skill prop. Too few rounds to comment other than there is no muzzle blast with Bonita
Speaking of economics, why not consider 22 ARC? The ballistics for the 88 grain ELD Match out of a bolt action looks great. Minimal recoil. Cheaper components. Flat shooting. Or... Maybe this is just me trying to convince myself on getting a 22 ARC.
Spotting misses and seeing hits at range is more difficult. While Typing that I'm currently building a 22 ARC bolt gun and waiting on components (and using that exact bullet), lol.
Getting 6 BR based cartridges to feed isn't difficult any more. There are a lot of great magazines and kits out there now that make it quite easy to accomplish.
@ No, I was a bit tongue in cheek. If you have followed PRS shooter’s it seems like there’s a new better flavor of the month that will change the world overnight. I think a Dasher or a GT would probably be the best option if I shot PRS. I should have clarified that I was not referring to you or your choice.
@ It was my bad, not yours. I may or may not, allegedly have several in a safe or three. I do think that the GT’s are much more reliable feeding, but perhaps a touch less accurate.
6.5 Creedmoor hits are unmistakable. It does help at extended ranges, but context is everything. If you go to a match where all of the shots are shorter range, there isn't much to gain in that aspect.
The difference between 6.0mm and 6.5mm is 0.020". Twenty thousands of an inch. A Trump testicle hair or two. I'm struggling to understand your broad strokes here. Especially given your multiple videos concentrating on the import of small, even minute, details. For someone competing, the differential component cost surely cannnot be a factor over a few hundred rounds? I am quite lost by this, Keith.
Let's look at the price of projectiles. $0.36 each vs 0.48. The 6.5 also consumes more powder (about 9 gr each round). Everything else more or less breaks even. I'm planning to shoot over 5k rounds this season. That's almost $1000 saved in one year. At low volumes, switching to a new cartridge wouldn't make sense. Same would be true for me if I had not been shooting the Dasher before (already have dies, brass, developed loads, etc.).
It seems you could have discovered the cost difference through research and math and saved yourself a lot of work. However, you did say the 6.5 made you a better shooter. Keep making great videos! We like them!

6GT + alpha brass is the way to go
6GT is what I want 👍🏽
Both of mine shoot so good with the Hornady brass iv never touched my alpha gay tiger brass.

Thanks for reminding me to order another barrel.😊
The lack of recoil is impressive, effectively didn’t even come off the target.
That’s why everyone moved to 6mm cartridges.
Hope you’ll get around to testing out the 25 creedmoor
Oh man, even with the articulate reason you put forth, the Creedmoor fans won't be happy! I look forward to seeing your video's on this, thanks.
