My husband sang this song to me quite often through the years, hitting the low parts with a grin on his face. He died a year ago today of cancer. I found it on TH-cam awhile back, but I really needed to hear it again today. Lisa S., Bullard, TX
my wifes father recently died. US Army Searents Major. Four tours in Vietanam, and awards and accolades too numerous to mention. He became a recruiter for the army in San Antonio, Texas, and completed 27 years of meritorious service to our great land. He was an avid guitar player and loved George Jones. my wife, a kindred spirit of this Hero/Outlaw is currenrtly due out of ohio state prison on 4/25. i am devoted to her and her recklessness. I play and sing and this is our song. God bless us.

I remember when this song came out, my little boy was about 3 and he thought George was saying "I'm a one hummin' man." This takes me back to those good days because my little boy turned 27 last week. Doesn't this song, especially this version, make you want to get up and jig? I LOVE it!
@mizzdoreena I agree . .I am an old fart so grew up and cut my teeth on him and other legends of the day in country and bluegrass .... in his day King George was the best !!! Still is considered the greatest ' living' country singer ... and 80 yrs old and still doin over 60 concerts a year . .he also has been a big inspiration to me and others with his successful battle with alcohol addiction ;-)

l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days…
@Fragalishus This is from George Jones Live in Tennessee from 1992, I know because i was there. It was an awesome show. Jones is one hell of a performer and the king of country music.
George had one of the greatest voices of all time. He was not near as good of a songwriter than Marty Robbins. But then again, Marty Robbins was one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
There are 2 geniune Country Music artists in the world. They are (1) Mr George Possom Jones and (2) Mr George Strait. George Jones IS the best Country artist------EVER!
One of my earliest, favourite memories is falling asleep to my Mother playing this on her old record player. I learned to love all the old country greats this way.
@Fragalishus I believe it was around 1992? or so... In his autobiography, he speaks on it and I'm rereading the autobiography again, to remember where it is. But it's definately recorded in the early 90's, before George had the open-heart surgery, the car accident and the face lift.
@Fragalishus I'm not sure but I think this is from the George Jones Live in Tennessee concert and it's available on DVD. It was recored at the Knoxville Civic Arena in May 1993. I'm not sure of the date but I know George's voice isn't quite as good as it was when this was recorded. I'm not really a George Jones fan but after seeing this....I'd love to buy this DVD!
CitySkin09 Jones was the King of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Strait was just coming on the scene around 1980 and had nearly as much success as Jones. They are both kings of a different era, both great but Nashville doesn't seem to appreciate real talent anymore. most millennials don't know who either one is.

Sorry for your loss great song though
13 years later, he was clearly a good man. Sorry for your loss, god bless!
Hi Lisa. I lost my husband on Dec 8,2021. Utube really stirs up the memories eh.
How in the hell can you not love this!!!!!!!!!
You can't not love this, it's impossible.

This song reminds me of my uncle.... he was constantly playing this song.... he was always singing this to his wife
Some of George's songs are real heartbreakers, but not this one. It always puts a smile on my face.
