  • One day I was repeatedly playing this figure which felt good in the hands and flowed rather quickly as this can be played faster than a hand to hand combination. Once slowing it down, I realized all this consisted of was inverted and normal paradiddles (with specific accent placements). This is a fun and fairly easy rhythm to play once you grasp the flow of paradiddles and is useful on the drum set as well to help facilitate cross overs and unique fills.

    This sticking flows so incredibly well; I've been playing around with this pattern the last several months myself and it just feels so good, and there's versatility there to use it in phrasing, in licks, whatever you wanna mix it into.

      That’s awesome to hear! It does, right?! Admittedly I haven’t tried it much around the kit but should try and explore some fill ideas and tom/snare voicings. Thanks for the comment. 😊

      Something satisfying about that Heavy Hitter pad, and his excellent chops

      There are many connections for sure though. This pattern works wonderfully around the toms on a drumset.

    What year was this full surface version of the slim pad last released? Vic Firth changed all their pads to 75% surface pads and I hate it

      Still believe it’s the early ‘00s. Yes, the rubber composition did change somewhat and same for the base material.

    Difficult to play these with an even, rhythmically undistorted flow. I use Dr. Beat with the
    16th note subdivision clicking away.

      Using the Dr Beat is a valuable tool! Slow and low and train the muscles to understand each movement and the flow will eventually occur.

      @@MatthewBauerMusic And many people don't realize the importance of practicing in slow motion. This isolates the movements even further & sets up the muscle memory.

    im trying to figure out why your accenting the doubles.

    • @MatthewBauerMusic
      @MatthewBauerMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Huh? The accent is only where indicated. Not on any doubles. Maybe slow it down to catch it?
      Thanks for viewing.
