I love how you admit when you messed up instead of editing it out, it makes you very relatable. Thank you for posting these videos. I've been DJ-ing for less than a year and they are very helpful.
Dont worry about mistakes, it only proves your doing it LIVE. I mixed live television broadcast for 9 years and you learn that mistakes are just like perfect mixes, they happen from time to time and you keep moving forward to the next mix and don't look back. you recognize what you did wrong, make a mental note and be more cautious in the future. The only way to not make mistakes is to not do it live, its called postproduction edits.
That sound system is incredible... Can only imagine how hard those octuple 18's pound!! Wish I could've ran some low end like that last night for a 700 student prom, but it just wasn't possible in the amount of time, venue, or budget. Great job as always dude!
For those without the budget for the gear you can rent equipment and sound professionals but it cuts into your profit. So if you're a good DJ that is ready for that bigger gig but don't have the gear check into rentals ... lights... trusses... Fog machines ....subs.. some places even send a guy to run sound ..all you do is DJ....So don't be afraid to share a payday that you normally wouldn't get anyway.
I sure loved the bass that was strong and it's ok when you mess up between mixing of trying to hit the cue button I know it's a pain in the neck to get it just right of syncing your beats and keep the party going. I always wanted to Dj but I have a dream and passion of becoming a radio Dj and a side gig Dj too
Keep in mind Rick that each extra step in the chain from source to amp degrades audio quality. If you are not using the DBX PA2+ just bypass it completley. The A/D and D/A converters of the PA2 is not even close to as good as the Venu 360. But if you go in to the PA2 and out again you have lost alot of dynamic range and audio quality. Really stupid thing to do when you have a nicer processor in the amp rack. And the EQ and x over in general sounds better with the venu 360 because of the higher processing power (96khz and 32bit float).
Yeah I know. It was a time thing. I had the srx 815p pre set already saved in my pa2. And Chris didnt have the venue 360 setup to let me use a iPad and eq it up front yet.
USELESS! The Pioneer DDJ-SZ2 soundcard it rated at 24bit/44.1khz, so that makes the VENU360 useless. What comes out of that controller, is what you hear!
One of the upsides to using the original Virtual DJ, which I do, is that it will not allow you to load a song onto a deck that you're already playing on. It will give you the option to rethink your choice "Do you really want to load this song onto this deck?"
Great Log, your set is very similar to mine. I noticed on this log and another that your "All I do is win" seems a bit slow? Great log, great DJ'ing. Keep it up brother and congrats on your near Graduation!
Holy sh*t. Proms round here if you have a Pair of behringer speakers, a facade, Maybe a beginner subwoofer and a T bar with 4 of those £15 wash lights and your the king of the market you won’t be beaten by anyone. I’m just glad since I don’t need the Dj money to live I can reinvest mine in equipment
That's one thing I like more about gigs in my area. They dance around the floor so if I ever get to editing my last gig logs, the view varies. Its not the same view. But that setup was incredible. I like the truss for your mixer. I wanna get a few pieces
Ya I was wondering because I live in NH and I was wondering how much would it be to hire you for my school because I could talk to my teach who hosts it because I am in DJ club at my school
Another great gig log. Just an observation, not a criticism... seems your set list from last year is almost identical to this year. It's amazing how much the region affects what you can play. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
It was the first prom of the season so I normally start very similar and just throw in new hip hop tracks throughout to test the waters you might say. It so hard to figure out what these kids will dance to now a days
i think and i know a few others think that the the vrx 932s are rather harsh with highs. i just think they need to be equalized a lot to actually sound decent. good video though
#snapgang Quick question though, how good was the coverage on those VRX tops? Ive heard that you really need at least 2-3 a side to get good coverage since they are only 15 degrees vertical. I too am looking at light options for big dances, and i am curious as to how hey performed
Hate to break it to you.. But those should not be your favorite line array. Not sure you have heard other systems. And i hate to say it but the VRX are not line arrays.. They have their purpose but they do not have the benefits or sound of a real array. They are essentially point source speakers with small enough coverage to be able to play with multiple boxes without to much comb filtering.
VolumeLux agreed I wish I would have seen the RCF HDL series before I bought the VRX. They are true arrays and the sound intelligibility even at a distance is outstanding so clear crisp.
Yeah I agreed Alex I still use them into small to medium size gigs I have 6 of VRX's but In big gigs and tons and tons people we use RCF HDL30 and HDL20 some times HDL10's
On the db test it sounded like those subs were being overdriven badly. That’s how you get them so hot they seize up. Beware, I’ve got a small pile of seized up JBL 18s. Use that processor to compress the subs a bit to remove those transients that we really don’t hear but the amp is try to do, but the cabs can’t handle those micro spikes. Amps are only doing what you tell them do. Or maybe the camera mic was getting wrecked.
YoYonkers Great way to see it man. Some People think you can come out charging 5k for a prom. You charged $450 this year show them your value build your trust with the client and then increase price. Once they know what you bring to the table they won't mind paying more.

Just a random question and I probably know the answer to it but I was wondering why not hook up the sound directly into the camera so it doesn't sound like the camera's microphone is trying to commit suicide every time the bass kicks in? Great gig by the way and we've all done those mistakes. I find people forget about it quickly and move on, and I had to learn to do the same, because like you, it would piss me off and ruin the rest of the night for me when I made those mistakes. "Keep the records spinning" Rick Webb. Great job.
If he plugs the camra directly into the sound, you won't here the crowd. I think there is a better external mic that might do a better job and I also think it might be the placement of the camera right next to the sub.

Hi rick nice video like always, I have a question .Im going to buy a line array system but i need you help .between the qsc kla 12 and the jbl vrx witchone you think will be better sound better quality

It is more widely used in the production industry and after hearing both I think the clarity is better kn the VRX as well.
Hey rick quick question how did you nail a prom Gig at a high school please I would appreciate if you can explain how you got the gig thanks . did you just go in there and asked if you can DJ?
Most proms are put on by the PTO of the schools. Go to the school you want to work at or go to their website. Find out who to talk to or email on the PTO= Parent Teacher Organization. The Prom is a big deal so make sure you have some references they can contact to ask about your DJ gigs or some video.
@@himbeereiszumfruhstuck9615 your listening to the speakers through a camera microphone then processed by TH-cam. It wasnt close to clipping. The camera mic was most definitely clipping though.
@@DJRickWeb The microphone is certainly not suitable for transmitting high sound levels cleanly. But I can assure you that QSC amplifiers have enough power for the Vtx.
