This video is so informative! And, it's so nice to be able to watch you do it while you teach :)

My only advice is to eliminate the stooping as you turn the wheel. It is easy to just move your right hand to another spoke and not bend your back. My barn loom and walking wheel are confined to a small bedroom so I can only make 5-6 feet of yarn each time. Worsted is possible, but almost always I was doing woolen yarn. Plying is a pain so I use my Ashford Traditional for that. I always wrap a rubber band tightly around the spindle about an inch from the end. This stops the yarn that is already wound on, from falling off the end of the spindle. I always spin with my shoes off. It's that lotta' walking thing you mentioned. I have been doing it for forty years and still love it and I know you will.

I have been spinning cotton for the last 6 years. After watching all these videos about how to spin on a great wheel, it seems like it is a Lot like spinning cotton! Good fiber prep, long draw, lots of twist, etc. If I prep my cotton well- light and fluffy, then it's so much easier to do the long draw. Although, I am able to do long draw with my right hand, I'm not as skilled to do it with my left hand. When I get my great wheel next month I'll have plenty of time to practice ;)
