Last time I was in the City myself, I had a playlist of BJM playing while throwing a round of disc golf in Golden Gate Park. It was right around when I first heard of them as well, so that made it quite new, groovy and magical. Every single person who caught up with me asked who it was, and I even got a compliment for having good taste. It was a wonderful day, and I cherish those.
Some bands may not rule the charts but have a very strong impact- Velvet Underground, Love , Television, The Feelies, Dream Academy , Jesus &Mary Chain, Jane's Addiction , Quick Silver Messenger and so on. BJM is the ultimate cult band in psychedelia.

I saw them in Ravenna last year in italy and it was amazing. They deserved a better place to play but it was still cool. In this little bar with a stage and everything. I mean is still a good place for a concert. I will always remember it, my grandpa died that night and i had the call from my mom while i was at the concert... i felt this concert into my bones and bjm always have a spot in my heart.

Brian Jonestown Massacre has two problems that make them far less well known in the US than they should be: 1) they know how to play their instruments and 2) their lyrics are not stupid.
