16-year-old, Ashlyn Harris waited, battled and rehabbed through a
decade-long quest to earn her first senior team cap. It finally came
against Sweden at the 2013 Algarve Cup in Portugal.

As much as I love Hope and she is the best female keeper in the world, at the moment, I think Ash has a lot to offer and can be just as - if not better- than Hope. Ash shows that you don't have to be the richest to be one of the worlds best and she fought and worked her butt off to get to where she is, which is truly inspirational. That is why she is one of my favourite USWNT players
I think everyone needs a Whitney Engen in their lives.

Love both Hope Solo and Ashlyn Harris. Both are incredible players and have worked so hard to get where they are today. Both will have their time to shine. Doesn't matter who gets there first. USWNT fans should be cheering for both.
Now both Ashlyn and Whit are World Champions :')
Here's to hoping they both make and win the Olympics !!
That moment when she told the story with her and Whitney it broke my heart for her. no wonder her and Whitney are BFFs
She is one of the many on this team that actually remembers where she came from and did not get carried away with her importance and is appreciative of what she has earned and does not take it for granted. Also good to see that she is respectful to the people who helped her along the way and the former players who made this dream possible for her. Now if we could get Hope Solo to be as humble as Ashlyn and everyone else on the team we would be accomplishing something. Hope is the exact opposite of Ash, Hope takes everything for granted and thinks the world owes her something. Hate to tell you Hope but you are extremely selfish and it needs to stop.
I love Hope and I think she worked hard to get where she is but she had got really cocky. She is giving US Soccer a bad rep. I think Ash is going to be the new Hope in a few years. But without Hope's arrogance.
That is what I mean it is about time people see that Ash is the complete package and actually have the guts to call Hope for what she is. I mean being a good player is not the only thing that should be evaluated it is the teammate aspect and team chemistry aspect as well and Ash has that. Sadly enough Hope doesn't for what ever reason. And that is the legacy she will unfortunately leave for herself.
+Micah Smith Hope is a very confident player, and you can see that just by watching her on the pitch. But I disagree, I think Hope has great chemistry with the other players. In interviews with the back line (Krieger, Klingenberg, Sauerbrunn, Johnston), they all talk about Hope being very calming and having good communication with them. Ashlyn should get more playing time and hopefully in the future she will have plenty more caps, but don't trash on Hope. Hope is the best goalkeeper in the world (in women's football). And she deserves respect for that
Zelda Scout I love Hope! She is a great goalkeeper, I just think she has a big head. Her chemistry with the back four is undeniable, but she has this thing of I know I'm good so I can say what I want.

Whitney Engen seems like an amazing friend. Remember that old UNC video where Ash explains how Whit also got her to buckle down in her studies, thus becoming the first Harris to graduate in her family! Sooooo sweet.

Amazing goalie, if she played for any country but behind Hope Solo she would be a huge star. Hopefully , she gets her chance to shine soon.

This is an amazing story... This is what happens when you don't give up, when you fight to make your dreams come true... Patience and hardwork is what will get you far! it took Ashlyn ten years of hardwork and patience, overcome injuries and rough moments, but she kept fighting and got her first cap, hopefully there are many to come where she can show what a great goalkeeper she is!

Very inspiring sports story about overcoming obstacles in one's career and one true friendship. In the age of drama queens and divas in professional sports at this level, this is a nice story about the beauty of sports and being part of a team.

A cap is the appearance or the amount of times you play for your country. Her first cap means her first game for the country you represent. If someone says I've had 50 caps for my country it means they have played 50 times for their country. That's the best I understand it to be
