This is why i think muay thai practitioners are so dominant in combat sports, muay thai is soo effective not because it is so complex but because of how easy it is to learn and understand.
for me its to master the basics, drilling a lot the basics til they come second nature to you, then you can start adding basic combos and drill a lot, then you can start adding sparring, and yeah like you said train lots the defense, because when you master the fundamentals and defense when you spar you will fight very very good.
This definitely goes back to one of your videos drilling the fundamentals into your head and building it from there should be the core of anything. definitely learning a lot from your videos and definitely helping me reflect upon my journey. thank you

Yo this is awesome. Thank you for writing so much. I would say wrestling is a great base for mma and a good sport to put boys/teens into. Good advice man 👊
It’s good bro, just focus on working out, strength train ( lift and or calisthenics ) and run , work on your strength and conditioning so that when you do eventually join a combat sports gym, you will be already in a decent spot in terms of conditioning
its up to you, muay thai has unparalleled clinch work and as you said- head punches, but kyokushin practitioners have some of the best body conditioning and close-range head kicks in the world. It’s up to you, everything has its pro’s and con’s.
It’s best to go with whichever you think you’ll try harder at, also some Kyokushin places do allow face punches with head gear, it just depends on the coach and of course what level you’re at
@@AnethamMMA Nice. Did you train in anything prior to MMA or was MMA your introduction to all the Martial Arts? And which was harder for you to grasp, Striking or Grappling?
I guess light technical sparring is ok for people that just started. But once you get pinned up against some of the pros and really good amateurs at your gym, that’s when sparring gets a bit harder. Especially for people that are still learning how to defend themselves. Because anyone can throw punches, but if they don’t know how to block, parry, catch, slip, etc… they are going to get their shit rocked. There are some beginners at my gym who went to sparring, they get put up against amateurs that go at a medium to light pace. And the beginner guy is done for the rest of the rounds after he spars the amateurs. So you have to have some experience going into sparring.
I'm 23 years old, how far do you think I can get into mma? I'm aiming for bellator, I have maybe 6 montha of bjj and I do strenght training and punching bag, running and jump ropes at home
So only bjj, good for ground game, but you definitely need to develop your striking game. You said you do bag work, try to focus a lot on striking since you nearly have 6 months of bjj experience. You definitely need both striking and grappling. Maybe try to learn more about Muay Thai or kick boxing. If you can , try to do sparring, since it can point out your flaws and mistakes.
@@jg1289 yeah. Tbh Muay Thai is better since it has knees, elbows, punches and kicks and some grappling. But kickboxing has more variety in kicks and punches.
That kinda depends what your style is.. Well rounded? Striking mostly? Or heavy grappling based? Whichever it is, work on your *Striking Defense..* It's VERY overlooked..
This is why i think muay thai practitioners are so dominant in combat sports, muay thai is soo effective not because it is so complex but because of how easy it is to learn and understand.
They don’t dominate in any combat sport outside Muay Thai?
they dominate in muay thai not in the rest, a bjj practicioner would beat a Muay Thai fighter in most cases
@@RadiantShadow13if it is a pure muay thai fighter they will most of the time beat a bjj guy
They're dominant in muy Thai lol. Any muy thai kid is getting taken down and thrown on their head in mma
@@gabagabago0l Muay thai fighters can learn grappling as well so they arent defenseless
starting at a new mma gym in october this video couldn't have been better timed thank u
Same. I'm 28, though. Been putting it off since 7th grade (13 years old) 😕😅 .
DONT WAIT TO SPAR UNLESS YOU HAVE BAD SPARRING PARTNERS

i actually met matt brown in thailand last month and spar with him, hes chill af
The jump rope part of this is 100% me😂
I still cant jump rope
Yuuup, definitely regretting not running when i started while being over a decade into the art
Highly underrated channel
Thanks for your videos my man.
My opinions for mma
Priorities
Light sparring/touch sparring
Drilling
Padwork
Shadowboxing
Heavybag
You should be touch/flow sparring as much as possible find a friend that knows how to pull your punches
Dont run or overdo s&c its stupid to do a push pull legs split while going to an mma gym multiple times a week 2x/3x max not including cardio
If you are still in middle school to college crosstrain combat sports clubs like taekwondo and especially wrestling if you do you have cardio covered
(Unless your gym has a wrestling class/interfers with your schedule)
Training anaerobic shit instantly transfers to aerobic capacity
Unless you have a fight coming up dont go heavy in conditioning
Skillwork should be your number one priority
(Which is why i dont like running and people who preach running because an hour wrestling class will do infinitely better numbers on your cardio than running/jogging ever will)
Train as much as possible that you can recover from you can train more if you nap too
My schedule as an example
Monday 1hr s&c(weightlifting) classes sleep 1hr muay thai sleep
2 bjj classes than wrestling
Tuesday bjj in morning taekwondo then wrestling at noon
Repeats but for thursday i do boxing and on saturday and sunday i do muay thai & bjj only and its not as much

Started last month, appreciate this brother🔥
Great video🙏
Got my first fight soon and I have been obsessed with your videos! Loving the work keep it up!
Thanks bro, hope you win man, good luck 🙏
First fight in boxing, mma or something Else?
@@CinarEzen first fight in anything, but I’ll be doing Muay Thai
Wanted to let you know I won, and your videos helped a lot! Keep up the good work champ 👊
I forgot who said this but they said "Practise 1 move 1000 times rather than 1000 moves once."
Bruce Lee said something similar about fearing a man who practices 1 kick 10,000 times as opposed to a man who practices 10,000 kicks once.
love this channel 🥊
So if i do kyokushin instead of shadowboxing i just practice what i was taught that day or week at home? Also running for karate?
Yeah that sounds good, and running is important for all combat sports if you want to improve your endurance and cardio .
We need the old pfp
I have no gym to go to right now but i hope that i will be able to go to one soon👍🏻😁

I wanna start kyokushin but people say i must do muay thai coz kyokushin doesn't allow punches to face which is better

do muay thai
Do both
Test both out and pick the one you prefer. Practicing both at the same time will be hard since they interfere with each other.

How old are you?
How long have you been training MMA?
About a year and a half
@@AnethamMMA Nice. Did you train in anything prior to MMA or was MMA your introduction to all the Martial Arts? And which was harder for you to grasp, Striking or Grappling?
I trained Okinawan karate for a a good while. So mma wasn’t my introduction. It’s harder for me to grasp grappling for Sure.
What is staff?
Wait 3months for spar? I did light sparring with a 7-0 amateur fighter on the first day, losing to him felt soo bad but get hit felt kinda good.
