Boggles my mind that they have marked ford crossings in the UK. I’ve *never* seen one in the US. If a bridge is too much, they’ll build an embankment for the road and put a culvert in for the waterway. If some sort of dry crossing can’t be built, the water stays uncrossable. @@madmax-tg3vo thanks for the reply! Great to hear that everything was ok afterwards bc I was a bit rattled thinking a crossing could be so well executed yet it could still damage a car! Confidence has been restored😁 Also is this ford on a road where lots of non local people go through, leading to most of the break downs?
@@Durzel it does depend on the car though. One of my Peugeots had the inlet to the airbox quite high, above and behind the wheel arch liner. It was maybe two feet off of the ground, however it also had an inlet grill low down on the front bumper next to the front fog light. If you went really slowly it would be okay but I'm pretty sure that with any speed at all that inlet would have just acted like a scoop and pushed water up over the wheel arch liner to where the inlet was. Old cars with a big pancake filter on top of the engine seemed like a better design to me. I have no idea how it is with a Mondeo.
And then maybe Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London? I love that you mention this as your first port of call 😄😄 I hope it rains for you when you visit :-)
Example of the drives' skills and knowledge nowadays.. Most drivers now are "I don't care what's under the bonnet, there are people to take care of it".. Then you realize you have destroyed your engine out of pure incompetence.. Car manuals used to have instructions how to adjust valve gaps.., now they have instructions not to drink the coolant ..
Cars have evolved, and while yes, them having stopped being easy user-serviceable is not always the kind of change I would call practical or good, there is something to be said for them having gotten so incredibly efficient we can make systems that make them reliably stall ignition for a while at a traffic light and restart when getting a green, along with engines being much more efficient.
I was wondering why the wheels locked up. I'm unfamiliar with those cars, is basically an automatic and they don't know how to get it into neutral hence the wheels locking up?
@@JoeJoe-sv5rk It seems once the engine dies you need to use the emergency neutral for the Auto gearbox, most owners do not read the manual because it also says not to drive through deep water, it's a car, not a boat.
@@JoeJoe-sv5rk BMW’s (and as such MINI’s) won’t go in to any gear when the engine is off, engine must be on to move transmission out of Park position - that being said, there is the emergency neutral pull that comes equipped in every automatic BMW… yet owners don’t seem to realize that haha. So drag them out they must, apparently… 🤣

The alternative route is circa 4 miles. These people will already have driven around the road closed signs. For people who aren’t local, it isn’t even a worthwhile shortcut ! Like 3-5 minutes saving max. Also let’s not forget if you do make it through and you don’t hydro lock your engine you can also warp your brake discs, ruin tracking and or damage electrics. Some people are daft

@@DavetheMonster They have auto parking brake though and the car's electrics are probably fried haha
That mini is toast
The mini at the beginning had the right technique, but sometimes it's just too deep regardless of how well you drive. The Jag that came after had the right car but wrong technique, that shouldn't have been an issue if he took it easy. I have no idea what the Wrangler driver was trying to do.
The Jeep driver was simply an idiot.
The mini didn't have the right technique though? they started fine but then accelerated for no reason and pushed the wave over the bonnet, that's exactly the thing you don't do.
Yeah that BMW mini did a poor job.
The Corsa had the right technique - the mini did nothing like it
@Alfred Wedmore I must agree with you! 😂 😂 😂 😂
Definitely one of the best channels on YT. I think the Countryman looked like a write off, stuck in gear and engine locked. Very expensive Jaguar FPace, very expensive engine repair. Darwin Award to blue Chelsea Tractor driver for making a mountain out of a molehill.
Wait at 5:18 I thought the Mondeo driver was spot on, but it still broke down afterwards? Was it bad luck or was something off in the technique that I'm not aware of?
@@madmax-tg3vo Nice car mate - you don't see many about these days.
@@madmax-tg3vo Why not just avoid deep water in the first place lol
@@madmax-tg3vo thanks for the reply! Great to hear that everything was ok afterwards bc I was a bit rattled thinking a crossing could be so well executed yet it could still damage a car! Confidence has been restored😁
Also is this ford on a road where lots of non local people go through, leading to most of the break downs?
Black Mondeo driver was decent, went in and started a wave then gently followed it out. Water didn’t even reach the grill. Masterclass.
The road open again? Thank you for the videos 🥰🥰
Wow, the blue Range actually lifted his suspension! Good for them…
Next time I go to England I HAVE to go here! Just to see the carnage for myself! :D
And then maybe Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London?
I love that you mention this as your first port of call 😄😄
I hope it rains for you when you visit :-)
Best thing in England rite now
@@Rasscasse yes, one have to get the priorities right 😂
Ha ha
Example of the drives' skills and knowledge nowadays.. Most drivers now are "I don't care what's under the bonnet, there are people to take care of it".. Then you realize you have destroyed your engine out of pure incompetence..
Car manuals used to have instructions how to adjust valve gaps.., now they have instructions not to drink the coolant ..
the coolant tastes better then a valve gap.........
7:39 , exactly how it should be done
That ford is a goldmine for local garages and mechanics
Would loved to have been on the deck watching this. I would have brought plenty of beer.
BMW/MINI owners unaware of the emergency neutral switch will never cease to amaze me.
I was wondering why the wheels locked up. I'm unfamiliar with those cars, is basically an automatic and they don't know how to get it into neutral hence the wheels locking up?
@@JoeJoe-sv5rk
It seems once the engine dies you need to use the emergency neutral for the Auto gearbox, most owners do not read the manual because it also says not to drive through deep water, it's a car, not a boat.
To be fair, they’re unaware of many things.

I would love to know what is causing so many people to attempt this, how much longer is their alternative journey where they don’t have to hope and pray their car works as well as a boat as it does a car
maybe people with no brain ..... looooooooooooo
And there’s a Sign there which didn’t know Warning Ford Flooded!
The alternative route is circa 4 miles. These people will already have driven around the road closed signs. I’ve often wondered if there is a case for fitting gates, that could be closed when Rainworth Water is high. It would save insurers a lot of money, but also spoil my Sunday Afternoon TH-cam viewing.
@@grayfox7671 the insurers would have to pay for it, cause the town won't.
@@rearspeaker6364 , in that case it’s a no-go. Newark & Sherwood DC wouldn’t cough up! There’s a similar situation on Watery Gate Lane, Thurlaston over in Leicestershire. You‘d think the street name would give a clue, but vehicles get stuck in the ford there. This usually entails a fire service response!
8:13 This is how you should cross (if you absolutely have no other way around) deep water. Not run through it like you going down splash mountain.
Corsa did it much better, especially for that small car.
Love these videos
the "team know how" truck LOL
I would like to thank you for your service, I was towing a carvan yesterday and when I saw the sign for rufford and the the ford sign I turned around at the golf course road. Sorry I wasn't on your video 🙂
I think most of the people in jags and landrovers and suv's in general think they're invincible, along with van drivers. 😂
Dunno about other van models, but the air filter intake in my Hiace is pretty much the lowest point in the van. I'll go the long way, thanks!
Amazes me why so many people don't look at this ford and think "I'd rather turn round and find another route, even if it adds 10 minutes to my journey, than potentially wreck my car" 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Yup. 8 minutes, according to google maps.
this is how they roll rufford,
Nice videos bro, unique content! Can please share detailed location? Country, state, city/village. Because it's looks amazing.
Notice when the 2 defenders were passing , everybody was quiet like . Englands pride depends on you Land Rover 😂😂😂
For people who aren’t local, it isn’t even a worthwhile shortcut ! Like 3-5 minutes saving max. Also let’s not forget if you do make it through and you don’t hydro lock your engine you can also warp your brake discs, ruin tracking and or damage electrics. Some people are daft
I asked how long a diversion route would be to avoid this ford on a different video. I was gobsmacked when I read your post about not being a worthwhile shortcut and the small amount of time it saves.
Youd be amazed at how many people dont even bother with maps. They dont even know how to put an alternative route into their sat nav. And look at the cars :- they are all people who have fled cities for the rural school run life. They have no clue where they ate all day- a bit like an amazon courier - “computer says go left” 😳
7:28 I hope the drivers of the Countryman and F-Pace saw that. The 2 flooded crossovers/suvs vs a little hatchback, a Corsa of all small hatchbacks for the pair of possibly badge snobs. :)
No
5:12 this is just beautiful. Well done Ford driver

@@madmax-tg3vo what is the purpose of the Ford? I don’t understand why they don’t just build a simple arch bridge over the water. Or is it that the water being at this level is an uncommon occurrence?
Did I hear someone at 08:46 say "have you got any jump leads?", as if they're going to help. I would love to spend a day there just watching the drivers of these expensive cars realising their car may not be worth so much after all
I have a simple question..why risk the likely second most expensive thing you own after your house? Especially for other people's entertainment 🙄
They are not risking it bud, to do that they would have to have some idea what they were doing. These people have no idea how their cars work, or the consequences of charging into a ford like a lunatic.
Most of these vehicles are leased so they are not risking thousands at all
@@CutLeRoc I get that but their insurance premiums are going to be enormous for years, plus there's the sheer inconvenience of having to wait on recovery truck.
@@CutLeRoc Would the leasing company not question why they have a water damaged engine? To say it happened going through a flood would be one thing, but I would have thought a ford would be different
