Wow guys! I cant believe how much interaction this video got.. I would really like to update this video with better audio and video, and revise this concept again, with all the lew techniques and variations ive been learning
as someone who is rlllly new to modular synths and is only rly able to use programs to do it, this was rly helpful to understand why it does what it does
this is exactly . exactlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy what I was looking for. im new to modular synthesis im gravitating towards it because of the unlimited amounts of inspiration that can come from these sequences. because of you I can now continue my journey and execute the way I want to. thank you.
Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo qui ouvre des perspectives infinies ! J'adore également plaits, mais plutôt maintenant dans sa version "palette" qui me semble plus "ergonomique" que l'original.
Excellent teacher and tutorial. Basic simplicity with plenty of room to branch out into generative insanity. Loved it. Thank you very much. ✨ 🌟 🌞 🙌🏼 💛 🕊 🕉 🙏🏽
Thank you very much...ı've been into Vcv rack on and off for sometime but this is the first video that actually hallowed me to experiment and understand how the whole patch functions...good job...subscribed...😀👍
Excellent video! I’ve been using the sequencer > VCA > quantizer routing you talked about here a LOT and it’s made everything so much more interesting.
Forgive me for my ignorance but given that you have a sequencer that plays a "range of octaves" and you modulated that range wouldn't that be the same thing that's going on with the VCA here? For example in Ableton there's various sequencers you can use that will play notes in an octave range like C1-C4, so the VCA is doing the same thing right? The voltage is the initial range then the limiter within the initial range allows you to go from let's say C1-C4 to C1-C2? So in Ableton if I just automated that range it'd be the same thing?
No, not exactly because that would only create variations that have an octave interval. The Vca is forcing intervals and voicings that contain any/all notes that are in the quantiser.. Its a huge difference in the outcome.
This is well explained and interesting! One thing I hate about VCV and I can speak for many here is that you find a patch, load it up an then it reports 'modules not found'.So then you try to work out what to find or download. Why it doesn't just load them all or ask you ' do you wish to download these modules?'. Of course some are paid for and you can't download them....but as a beginner it is really offputting to see that message. Many a time I have just given up at that point. Also with VCV you go to load something and it says 'VCV is already running'! That is so annoying! So you can't just go through patches easily. I don't understand the logic in it. Having said that, VCV is truly amazing....your video was interesting in that you approached it from a musical point of view. It's also simple. So many patches make your head hurt on youtube! You explained it very well...and sharing the knowledge is a good thing to do. Thank you.
I discovered VCV rack and I thought it would be good to make some generative drones/ambience and then add drums and other instruments in Ableton but all I was getting was lost and frustrated until I found this tutorial Thank you where can I find some more? in fact lots more ???
I like this tutorial, it caters well to both beginner and more advanced vcv rack players. Maybe a noob question, but where are you getting that bass sound at the beginning from? I only see one oscillator plugged to the mix. You are using a midi bass, but it's not wired to vcv, right?
Awesome video, very informative and expertly explained. One request, I'm using miRack on an ipad which is very similar but not quite the same. In future videos, maybe a very brief description on why you love the modules you choose. Sometimes I have to grab those closest approximation to what you're using and it would help when 5 of em look real close. Thanks either way.
The plaits oscilator is great because it has 18 unique sounds that can be tweaked extensively. The plateau reverb is a community favourite and very lush. The sequencer Ryan uses here actually isn't his (or my) top pick. The best sequencer out there is koralfx scorovnik. The reason is that it shows exactly what notes each step is playing so a quantizer isn't needed. For the utility modules (quantizers, clocks, mixers, vca etc) just use whatever works for you. The digital sequencer he uses is also great, and he does explain why: it acts as an LFO but you can draw in your own custom shape.
Sorry for the late reply i have the bass coming from an external synth(Minilogue XD) - If youre not hearing the Macro oscillator with tose settings its prbably just a sub oscillaor - do you have sound if you increase harmonics /timbre ?
I just get one tone from the clocker and nothing, i try to pass it through everything and I just get an annoying pulse of one note, this is so frustrating

Just got VCV rack. I'm 10 minutes into this video and know already that it's a total gem. Thank you very much.

I don't understand why the audio levels are all over the place like a bomb went off. =\

This is amazing and I thank you. I am so glad you mentioned Nils Frahm! He is literally the composer I heard who sent me to VCV Rack 2 and Cardinal.
This is a great tutorial
things make so much more sense

Thanks to you I made my first patch on cardinal today, and it sounds dope ! Best tuto for generative music on TH-cam ;) and so much possibilities...
Excellent! this is amazing!
Excellent video full of knowledge. Thank you for making this.
Awesome video
To add on to the notes at 6:40
Digital sequencer from voxglitch
And adsr from msm modules
Excelente explicación a ponerlo en práctica..🙏🙏🙏

dope tutorial Ryan...nice work. subbed
Controversial opinion but this single video makes way more sense than Omri's entire catalog.
Hahah how dare you sir! I am however extremely flattered..
Mind-blowing video, will lay my hands on VCV and try to create similar fantastic sounds...
Looking forward to seeing many more videos from you ;-)
Great teacher!!!
This is a way cool video! Mad helpful
Thx for the lesson. Realy instructive!
Great tutorial, really helped me get to grips with a lot of the concepts I couldn’t quite get my head around!

how do you use those sticky notes??
great work!!
The glue module
Good stuff.

Hey bro thank you so much! Uploading a new series on music theory and modular this week, think you will really enjoy!
@@RyanMurgatroydMusicLooking forward to it already!!
@@RyanMurgatroydMusic Do you use the VCA so we can see the effect that the ADSR is having or is it necessary to have it to make it work properly
I was also thinking last night ' VCV should have a facility where it can create it's own patches randomly' / add modules and put them together ! :)
most patches generated purely randomly, by putting random outputs into random inputs, would be junk. it's probably doable though.
Ryan, how are you controlling the MIDI input? Thx
I love how you pronounce stroer.. broer
The section from 40:43 to 56:14 is just a repeat of the section from 25:16 to 40:42
That is true yes, bruh this video is OLD>. i will update:)

Does this video talk about sections?
I want this file you made! Is it available somwhere?

Is this patch available to download thanks
Can you provide the patch please ?😊
hi, Sorry, but I couldnt find a RANGE MELODY....Sorry I m a bigginer, ;_) could you tellme where could I find it? Or brand's name?
is a VCA! hahaha, okok , sorry
what version VCV are you using?
Hey man, your tutorial is fine but the intensity of your bass - which you're occasionally playing - is annoying and much too loud.
Trying this today and not getting any sound when macro osc is at 0 harmonics and 0% timbre. Also how did the bass come in at 15:42?
** edit I think I fixed it. Was a matter of volume...
Why did you change clock 2? Nothing is connected to it? at 22:05

how can i get this little yellow tags?
They come from the module called "glue'

Lost a huge amount of respect right off the bat by redefining a term Brian Eno defined before your Mom was born! ;)

There has to be something wrong with the routing.. I can build something similar and upload to the discord if youre struggling,
