For a moment, I thought you meant the great Elizabeth Bennett, widow of the much-missed Frank, and mother of the spirited Catriona. The kindest person one could hope to meet.

I learned it when I was six, sixty years ago! I still remember all the words, and the joy of dancing it! Those were the days, when we had an hour of country dancing every week - we all loved it!

25 years ago, I was member of a Scottish dance group at Bamberg University, Northern Bavaria, southern Germany. This was our favourite dance.
Now that I'm finally learning the tune, I see that the rhythm is a very typically Bavarian "Schottisch" rhythm (and a Swedish ''Skottis'' rhythm too).
So we loved the dance because we grew up with this rhythm.

Back in 2004/05 when I was in year (grade) 1 and 2 our teacher made us do country dancing and this was one of them. At the time, although we enjoyed it we were like “meh, why we doing these old dances” - but today I am very grateful I learned it and I had the experience of dancing with the girls in my class

I am a Canadian indigenous Cree woman from James Bay Ontario Canada. My paternal great -great-grandfather was from somewhere in the S. Orkney Islands. The Scottish workers came to Canada and gave the Cree people of James Bay their wonderful music (we call it fiddling music and step-dancing); bannock was and still is our favourite main staple snack. One day I will go to the beautiful land called Scotland ❣️❣️❣️

I'm American, Irish and Scottish ancestors. I never learned this but looks similar to a dance I've seen before in the States. Box dancing I think, can't remember the name

Oh I remember they used to make us learn this at primary school. I am not a natural dancer 😆 I don't have a lick of grace or elegance, I danced right on to Mrs Newells foot 😅 she went bananas

As long as you ENJOYED it, Tee. To my mind, that is the most important thing, though some purists might disagree.

In ma school every one was too cool to do the ceilidh dancing but I thought it was brilliant. It was mostly lassies that didn't want to do it because they thought it was gimpy so there was always twice the number of lads dain it. I didny mind, I'd just dance wae one of ma mates I didny care. Towards 6th year though most folk grew out of it though so the final ceilidh we had was fantastic. I miss school sometimes man.

I’m here to revise the reels of three, otherwise known as the figure of eight. Pretty sure I have it committed to muscle memory having learned it in school, but it seems to have fallen out of favour these days. Instead people seem to just cram in more single arm turns… not quite as classy!
