The music playing when Anna reels is a slower-tempo version of the music playing when the lady in the blue dress (and later, her partner) steps into the center of the circle.

I’m not Scottish, but I was led to believe that a ceilidh was a rather......boisterous affair requiring full body padding, or at least very quick reflexes. This seems rather proper and dignified to me. :-)
I am American but my ancestors were all Scottish immigrants. Its for this reason that my family still celebrates things like burns night. I am so completely in love with Scottish culture and I am so happy that most of my family comes from this cultured country so I can take part in the traditions.
Venus Gillespie Where I’m from in a small town in the North East of Scotland, Buckie, ceilidh dances are very lively we learn them in high-school and then perform them at a yearly Christmas party. And mostly likely any wedding you attend to will definitely have at least two ceilidh dances no doubt! It’s such a fun way to express the Celtic music and so heart lifting, another thing that’s nice is when I play my fiddle with my fiddle group at the church or in homes and we play Auld Lang Syne and everyone just grabs each other’s hands and sings! : )
We used to do this in the run up to Xmas at the school gym I readiness for the Xmas dance/disco. Also at the local sea cadets as three times a year we had dances with the county set crammed into our little hut on the docks to raise funds.
