"you would be terrible at launching rockets" Jon 2018. What's the saying about people in glass houses? We remember your KSP stream, you're hardly an expert.
I'm not sure J. F. K would have counted hitting the surface at 200 m/s a 'success' but you know I guess some fragments might have survived ;) In fairness though for 4 hours of playing that's not a bad achievement.
i like how he's using the prison phone and is all like "Oh by the way, I'm breaking out of here". It's not like the prison personnel would actually be so inconsiderate as to listen in to the calls.
John not being aware that solitary confinement is considered in some locations to be psychological torture and can have immediate impacts in mere hours...
solitary isn't just peace and quiet, it's a tiny room with a toilet, a bed, and a light bulb. No human interaction or external stimulus of any kind. Couple that with the mental effects of isolation and people often get out of solitary, and then sent back in with a couple of hours to a day in between.
Solitary means you only have one hour a day outside your cell, which is about the size of a king size bed, and often leads to severe mental illness so yeah Jon it's a bad thing
"Maybe I'm gonna paradox you off this plane!" Sounds like a threat that future time-travelling parents would give their children; "If you don't clean your room, I'll paradox you into the middle of last week!"
Well done, Jon and Claire both. :) Just so you know; many of the events and actions featured in this game were quite clearly inspired by the escape from Alcatraz of 4 men, in early 1962, or thereabouts. Some events also seem to have been inspired by "The Bird Man of Alcatraz". By almost equal measure, some events seem to have been inspired by the events described by Henri Charriere in his book "Papillon". These were factual events. As you note, Stephen King's "The Shawshank Redemption" is the obvious inspiration for the sewer scene; and is also thus recognizably fictional. I'm old enough that the actual Alcatraz Escape was still spoken-of during my childhood, as was that of Henri Charriere. While I enjoy this channel greatly, I have really enjoyed watching you both, Claire and Jon, playing a game in co-op; and I hope to see more of same. Kind and Respectful Regards to you both Jon and Claire, Uyraell, NZ.
Claire getting her own back at Jon saying her butt looks weird (and all the other reasons) by mincing him up in the giant fan. Totally not premeditated.
Before I heard him say that he was planning to do a full playthrough, the moment I heard him say he was going to call it a part, the first thought that crossed my mind was please, please do the rest of the game.
I mean, I doubt they haven't discussed what is and isn't allowed and such. You don't do these things just out of the blue unless you really want to risk your relationship.
Your comment about data entry- Know someone who was in federal prison, they were given choice of work to do and data entry is now an option. That's what she did for her whole time. You were onto something there.
Many A True Nerd - Seeing as you seemed to cotton onto the secret central success ethic of Prison Architect - i.e. that more compassionate methods lead to more positive outcomes - this idea has my approval... even if you do think solitary confinement sounds like a good time...
Jon obviously doesn't know much about solitary. Not only are you alone in a room, you stay in that room for a long period of time, with no human contact whatsoever. Some people consider it inhumane because it can lead to mental problems.
always found it weird how the punishment (and detterent) for the worst behaviour from a prisoner is considered inhumane, when really its for other prisoners or guards or even their own safety. you don't want to just give a dude a slap on the wrist for making a shiv and taking a swing at his cellmate, you want to let everyone know "you do this, you go in their" we don't consider time out cruel in nurseries do we?
It's cruel because of its consequences for those subjected to it, you dumbass. Time out is okay because it isn't mentally scarring; solitary isn't okay because it is mentally scarring.
ok so how would you isolate an active threat and deter repeatedly violent criminals who are behind bars from attacking other inmates? since i'm the dumbass you must know how to "fix" that issue.
JD pitmint Are you paying attention? Plenty of countries don't do it, ergo, they have solutions that don't involve it. If as you claim it's the only option other countries would do it, they don't, ergo, it's not the only option.
Jon, solitary confinement in the US is considered a human rights violation by the UN. You're locked in a room that is only just long enough in one direction to lie down all the way, and you can touch both other walls while you do so. Food is delivered through a flap in the door (nutriloaf, which is all the leftovers mixed together and baked), the guards will not speak with you, and you are not allowed visitors. It's literally torture.
I love it when u and Claire play. It's hilarious. Btw sorry about downtown in frost. From what I've seen the traders had caps and goods to purchase in other playthroughs.
Pretty sure the character of "Fred" is a reference to "Red" from the Shawshank Redemption - a black, long-time inmate with connections who can make just about anything happen if you pay enough. The opening scene where a new prisoner asks "When do we get visitors" and then gets smacked in the gut but a guard is also a reference to Shawshank which has an almost identical scene. You can tell where the game is getting it's main influence from.
Usually when Claire joins she doesn't do much, but this time her role is of a co-star. And I think Jon should be nicer to her, sometimes he's rude. Be a gentleman, lad!
I think if someone was very determined they could probably shank someone with excel. And Claire found a rhythm there in the climbing it’s just a shame Jon couldn’t keep up.
depending on when this is set that guy that stabbed the guard either won't be up and walking anytime soon or due to unfortunate circumstances the nurse never arrived on time he would bleed to death. or, worst case scenario, he would be thrown in with actual psychos and left at their mercy. Btw, your "screwdriver" was a chisel.
ah I love this! you two are the cutest. Please please please play Phasmaphobia together!! does anyone else think that would be the funniest video ever??
Is anyone bugged by the fact that after that gard got stabbed the other guards just kept beating the inmate instead of just restraining him so they could get the stabbed guy medical attention
Keyboard and mouse FTW! Hang on, is Claire playing as Wolverine?!? Only wolverine with an amazing nose! R.e. Harvey being on the outside. Check Claire out listening to the game and actually paying attention. Martyn and all you heisters could learn a thing or two ;-p
"you would be terrible at launching rockets" Jon 2018. What's the saying about people in glass houses? We remember your KSP stream, you're hardly an expert.

Your not talking about this game are you
Many A True Nerd thats like saying america made it to nagasaki during world war 2
Yes. I remember the singing afterwards.....it haunts my dreams....
More streams and episodes need Claire telling Jon to "Get on with it, Fresh Meat."
"You can't shank someone with Microsoft Excel" should be the title of this episode.
i like how he's using the prison phone and is all like "Oh by the way, I'm breaking out of here". It's not like the prison personnel would actually be so inconsiderate as to listen in to the calls.

you can't get outside privilege.
Coocoollama64 actually that depends on the prison
If it's more of a lenient prison you get at most an hour outside
ahhh okay
"Maybe I'm gonna paradox you off this plane!" Sounds like a threat that future time-travelling parents would give their children; "If you don't clean your room, I'll paradox you into the middle of last week!"

Before I heard him say that he was planning to do a full playthrough, the moment I heard him say he was going to call it a part, the first thought that crossed my mind was please, please do the rest of the game.
bleach 22 spoiler
Vincent is a cop
Love it when you two play together. The laundry room was hilarious!
You can tell it's set in the past because the prisioners are allowed belts :P
Takes place somewhere in the 70s
always found it odd it took so long to outlaw belts, they're the ideal whip-like weapon and noose
I am continually amazed, between livestreams and these joint videos, that Claire doesn't just hit Jon all the time.
JfergusonKG she’s very professional despite her treatment.
I mean, I doubt they haven't discussed what is and isn't allowed and such.
You don't do these things just out of the blue unless you really want to risk your relationship.
The only thing better than a Jon video is a Jon and Claire video.
'American prisons look like Super Villain Doom Fortresses.'
*That's because they are.*
Your comment about data entry- Know someone who was in federal prison, they were given choice of work to do and data entry is now an option. That's what she did for her whole time. You were onto something there.
Clearly I should run my own prison.
Many A True Nerd Ooh and you could call it “Atonement Towers”, or maybe “Reformation Station”?
Or: *Helstadt!! Helstadt!!*
Many A True Nerd - Seeing as you seemed to cotton onto the secret central success ethic of Prison Architect - i.e. that more compassionate methods lead to more positive outcomes - this idea has my approval... even if you do think solitary confinement sounds like a good time...
I don't think Jon understands how solitary confinement works.
STOP DOING THE LAUNDRY
Yay Claire
Cult of Claire for world religion!
50MT Revolutionary we love the cult
Hello fellow cultists

Jamie Bower any stand out lyrics
Jamie Bower jailbreak, youre welcome
Frisbie147 He was clearly joking, thank *you* haha
Jon obviously doesn't know much about solitary. Not only are you alone in a room, you stay in that room for a long period of time, with no human contact whatsoever. Some people consider it inhumane because it can lead to mental problems.
Belgium doesn't send prisoners to the US because they consider the American system inhumane indeed.
always found it weird how the punishment (and detterent) for the worst behaviour from a prisoner is considered inhumane, when really its for other prisoners or guards or even their own safety. you don't want to just give a dude a slap on the wrist for making a shiv and taking a swing at his cellmate, you want to let everyone know "you do this, you go in their"

Holy shit! A MATN stream with someone that doesn't have -1 perception. Go Claire!
Omg bess teamwork chemistry 😂🤣😁 BESS! This series is already hilarious, love it!!
You definitely need to do more coop games like this together I'm in stitches and tears from non stop laughter
This is why I love TH-cam, and specifically Many A True Nerd. Genuine entertainment. Love it. X
Claire deliberately kills Jon with the fan.
Claire is Best! :D
love the inverted beards
I love that Jon's suggestion is to have the prisoners do data entry. *applause*
Jon just because you have a completely flat butt doesn't mean Leo can't be thicc
My gosh, how did i ever miss this series.
Oh this is going to be a strain on your relationship if you finish...
Codo I love the ending to this game, even though it happens...
Spoilers??
i love how Leo turns out to be the crime boss that they are taking down, and then betrays Vincent ;D
That fight in the canteen was so close to starting an impromptu conga line at the start.
Solitary confinement drives people insane Jon!!!!!
Haven't watched yet but having already seen a full playthrough of this game already, this should be fun!
You can do laundry and clean the sheets but the washing machines don't stop so you'll just lose the sheet
I was hoping to see you play this in some fashion, Glad to see it here.
Thanks for the video.
This is the best gaming channel I have ever been subscribed to.
I think the title says it all for this one.
This was one of the most emotional games I’ve ever played. Hope we get to see a full playthrough

Here is a hint to what time period it is:GOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM !!!
"You can't shank somebody with excel"- MATN 2018
I haven't seen anyone else put this so I will the game takes around the 1950's or 60's
Always nice to have Claire along ^_^
This has to be my favourite yell from Jon ever. "STOP DOING LAUNDRY!!!"
2018 and we're still having the argument "3 2 1 then go or go on 1?" it's a little amazing how these things stay relavent.
Jon not understanding what solitary is actually like...so adorable.
I love it when u and Claire play. It's hilarious. Btw sorry about downtown in frost. From what I've seen the traders had caps and goods to purchase in other playthroughs.
‘You can’t shank someone with excel’ - Jon, MATN 2018
No Jon, American prisons have more problems now.
actually they have less, its just the bigger issues havent changed
It's always nice to see Clair in videos
"American prisons look nightmarish and dystopian"
That is so true
Pretty sure the character of "Fred" is a reference to "Red" from the Shawshank Redemption - a black, long-time inmate with connections who can make just about anything happen if you pay enough. 'You're also like, not a crime boss.'
That you know of.
Usually when Claire joins she doesn't do much, but this time her role is of a co-star. And I think Jon should be nicer to her, sometimes he's rude. Be a gentleman, lad!
you're argueing over whether to go one "3,2,1" or "3,2,1,go" you are the whole "two unlikely allies need to work together" trope.
“You go 3 2 1 then you do a thing! No, you don’t go on 1!” -Jon 2018
I think if someone was very determined they could probably shank someone with excel. And Claire found a rhythm there in the climbing it’s just a shame Jon couldn’t keep up.
"Naked meeting"
In prison it's called naked meating
*makes popcorn frantically*
the Welcome to the prison scene is very similar to what happens in The Shawshank Redemption
This game and Jon/Claire? YES
Can't believe they made the Shawshank Redemption into a game
Seems escaping is a good idea, as those toilets aren't plumbed in, just pushed against the wall. There'd be quite the odour wafting around.
depending on when this is set that guy that stabbed the guard either won't be up and walking anytime soon or due to unfortunate circumstances the nurse never arrived on time he would bleed to death. or, worst case scenario, he would be thrown in with actual psychos and left at their mercy. Btw, your "screwdriver" was a chisel.
Claire, Claire, listen to me! I'm from the Future. Dump Jon before he finishes this game. Trust me, please!
Ryan Payne you're just trying to get her out of the way so you can have Jon all to yourself. I'm onto your little game, Ryan.
Hey now, I wore shirts like that! In the 90's.
The beginning was literally the same as the Shawshank Redemption...
MORE MORE MORE!!!! I NEED MORE CLAIR AND JON!!!!
I love Co-Ops with Claire!
Jon and Claire get stuck on easy puzzles for 4 hours
So far, this looks exactly like Shawshank Redemption: The Game.
The game deliberately references several films.
In solitary you get zero human contact, sometimes for weeks or more. It has driven people a bit mad before
Is that Frank west's voice actor?
ah I love this! you two are the cutest. Please please please play Phasmaphobia together!! does anyone else think that would be the funniest video ever??
"You can't shank someone with Mircrosoft Excel"
Look at these two a real couple of cards
And now, the prison escapades of Discount Sturges and Discount Scipio Africanus!
Jon gets sent to prison
Immediately stabs the meanest looking guy there.
"Solitary confinement please!"
There is a VR game that you could find interesting and if it's any good it would be nice to see it get some exposure. It's called "void LINK".
I was waiting for this.
Jon... solitary means you are stuck in a cell with a very small window with no bed usually. For 24 hours. It literally makes you insane
Jon, prisoners have been doing customer support and data entry for years in the US.
Love you guys 🩷
Do more of this jon
Is anyone bugged by the fact that after that gard got stabbed the other guards just kept beating the inmate instead of just restraining him so they could get the stabbed guy medical attention
Jon, you make a good point with Microsoft Excel 😂
Fun fact about U.S. prisons the favored currency has changed from cigarettes to Romen.
"You can't shank someone with Microsoft excel"
Oh good! I was hoping you’d play this
’Your ass is weirdly lumpy’ MATN 2018.
Has to be contender for vid of the year.
"You can't shank anyone with Microsoft Excel"
Keyboard and mouse FTW!
Hang on, is Claire playing as Wolverine?!? Only wolverine with an amazing nose!
R.e. Harvey being on the outside. Check Claire out listening to the game and actually paying attention. Martyn and all you heisters could learn a thing or two ;-p
Just a thought, but no prison guard has worn a tie as part of the daily uniform for decades.
So intense
"You can't shank someone with Microsoft Excel." - Well not with that attitude you can't.
Allowing prisoners to work with computers in prison can lead to people conning people of money over the internet depending on how they do it.
That nurse looks like 90's Maura Tierney. :D
Oh what little you know Jon oh what little you know hahahha
