1949 was a year that saw some truly great looking cars , and this is one of the best ...so many Mercs were customised - interesting in their way - but to my mind the original look is unbeatable .
HI Derrick Rees, Glad you enjoy this "Original" :-) Me too, Lou P.S. I chased this one down so you and I can enjoy it :-)
My mother had one like this, only yellow, in 1949 A wedding present from my father. She was caught in the rain one time and couldn't get the top up and the interior was flooded, and she was soaked, when she got home. She told my father no more convertibles for her. :) (I came along a few months later). I've always admired the design of the Mercury's and Lincolns of that era.

Glad you "love it" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing Off The Jacks, Lou
sweet looking Car always reminds me of the Merc from the Movie Grease If it had flames on it it would be tough
Hi Charlie, Grease is the word :-) Lou
Beautiful car and I was really interested in the stuff he was trying to say about the car but you wouldn't let him talk you just would keep interrupting him while he was trying to tell you facts about it and please don't take it the wrong way I am not trying to be rude but I love cars and love to learn everything about them not just look at them but great video thank you
Hi Andrew Kreds, I'm not taking it the wrong way, and actually you're right. Challenge I'm seeing and learning from is to slow down. I get so excited around the cars sometimes I'm not completely focused. This is one of my earlier videos, and here's one I've done last week, please share with me if you see a difference, enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/anoHn5Emk2I/w-d-xo.html

How do you figure the overdrive makes it a six speed?
Hmmm, not sure.
My Dad had one of these and I was also born in Ohio! Us kids used to put sand in the gas cap. (I was all of 4 years old.)
Dad had a nice ride :-)
Lou: Well no, actually in 1964 we moved 100 miles to another city and my mom had to stop at every gas station to put water in the radiator! We did keep the car about another year though. It was our second car, the other car was a 1952 Chevrolet Bel Air.
We certainly did not have power anything for either of those cars!
beautiful car take off those bumber gaurds takes away from the car and those fog lamps
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
@@loucostabile i dont think they made a car in 49 that wasn't attractive one looks better than the next hudson nash studebacker pontiac packard they all looked good cant say that bout the cars today no style
Call david lindley. I think he´d appreciate a ride in it.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts.
I have a pair of 49 Lincoln convert doors, anyone have a idea what they are worth?
Hi Chris Hanson, I have no idea on the value of those items. Maybe check eBay? Lou
WHATS AMAZING IF YOU PULLED A 1949 HUDSON CONVERTIBLE NEXT TO THIS IT WOULD LOOK ALMOST ALIKE. AND MERCURY SOLD 16,765 UNITS AT $2410 AND HUDSON WHICH MADE 3 VERSION FOR 1949 SOLD A PALTRY 3125 UNITS FROM$2799-$3041.YES THE HUDSON WAS MORE EXPENSIVE BUT ITS SIX HAD 121 HP AND MERCURY HAD JUST 110HP. AND THE WHOLE WORLD CUSTOMIZED THE MERCURY. AND HUDSON RACED ITS HORNET SIX ON THE TRACK AND WON BIG TIME. NO MERCURYS WHERE ANY WHERE AROUND THE TRACK THEN .
Hi richard feibel, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Pulling them next to each other is a good idea :-) Lou

Original hipster car, guy had butt hanging out of his mouth, jackboots, rolled up jeans and a ducktail haircut! And used to hang out at the local DQ.
