At level 30 internal growth I think he should be around 24 on warrior or so speed or 23 if berserker so that + speedtaker and his BLD growth should let him quad enemies with his passive dealing 8 additional damage if using a brave axe without getting doubled in return. I think unlike Etie investing in Boucheron can really pay off due to better passive and warriors 40% defense and 115% HP but is by no means the meta option.
Having kept a decent average party level with rounded division of XP, I managed to have a LV10 Boucheron for chapter 10. I let marth backpack him, as the Str, Dex, and Spd all actually help Boucheron hit various benchmarks to avoid getting doubled early and actually one round a fair few enemies, like armors with the hammer and some Cavs. He pretty consistently stares down 60% ish hit rates, which lets him stare down medium pods of enemies as bait as they still need to land 3-4 hits to take his high HP down. He ultimately rounds out all the problems Axes usually face at the sacrifice of middling damage, but at the end of the day it works really well to give a very balanced feeling unit that functions more like an early Myrmidon or other games than the early fighter.

When i saw him with 100 percent longbow accuracy on maddening i knew he was a permanent member of the team and benched Etie as I had my new high damage archer.
@@skywing217 yeah, I never really get why people just claim he can't hit things and can't kill things. Like I used him in Hard endgame, and currently doing Maddening (halfway through), both times he's a warrior, and he's really good. Maddening Context on Fixed Growths: I've been having a lot of fun with the Boosh. He does need +10 Hit from Sigurd to be consistent at the beginning. However once he gets going, he is a blast. He has a fairly decent spd growth, so when you combine that with his BLD which is the highest starting(among the starters) and growth build in the game, he can get to a point where he is wielding silver axes with little to no penalty, letting him do very fun burst down and sometimes a fun doubler while avoiding being doubled. He really opens up a fun style of play where you can use the heaviest equipment with no penalty, effectively psuedo buffing his strength. The most fun I have had with a unit in the game lol.
He can’t afford hit as a skill since he needs to double up on damage skills ( usually axe power+lunar brace though in a party with a sage Erika pandreo maintaining high engage uptime mainblue skys+eclipse is pretty dope on him. Even in warrior his strength growth is insufficient and beserker’s got too low caps barring hp and strength to be good. Even with his combination of speed and build he will be doubled just because all beserkers get doubled so doubling up on might fixing in warrior or wyvern is his best bet.
Been using him on Maddening with Brave Axe + Marth Ring (used Eirika until Marth got back). He deals so much dmg when his passive procs off of backup attacks (+2 for each attack). If you give him a Speedwing, Axe Power, and Speed+/Speedtaker, he can quad (+8 dmg from passive) and 1 round almost anything. I gave his Brave Axe Leif engraving for more dmg and hit. As a Warrior he can also take part in Fracture strats on Wyverns, and use a Long Bow for 3 range poke + backup. On enemy phase he can use his high HP/Build to tank and retaliate with Tomahawk or Great Axe without having a speed penalty. Marth Emblem gives him Strength, Speed, Dex, up to 2 bonus attacks, passive healing, Falchion/Rapier, and avoid bonus to offset Axe Power.
Wyrms die to tons of engage weapons, Brave Weapons often enough, frankly lots of things. The only thing you get for free on Wolf Knights is that you can 3 range them.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 true and fracture can make life against them a lot easier as well. When a pack of wolf knights show up, one is in for a rough time.
My first run was with DLC and Boucheron was my holder for Edelgarde’s braclet. I went Warrior and made him my Axe man. I was happy but Edelgard definitely elevated him and I’m not sure how he’d have felt without.
@@xBenwa this is exactly what i did. Warrior woth edelgard since the very very beginning of the game. He was a hard carry unit for me on maddening with this combo. And ya he was a beast with the longbow lol.
Good guide. I thought about having him around because of his HP growth and his ability actually being decent (I really like Chain Attacks,) but I had to drop him because of his lackluster strength.
I think you can also get a Silver Axe super early (maybe chapter 6?) as part of the expansion pass bonus, which could be a *very* early Brave Axe for him if you’re a DLC user. But yeah, I agree with pretty much all of your points. His low strength growth really pigeonholes the classes he’s able to function in. I’m waiting for the next wave of DLC emblems to do another run where I use him, but I’m thinking Berserker!Ike crit build for him rn
I love Boucheron and its a cool fun unit. His growths are very interesting and he definitely wants axes since he has high bld and low str but he definitely is like a C tier unit. He wont carry without tons of investment but I like him a lot and he is always a decent unit even though he wont hard carry. Problem with warrior and berserker is they have very low base dex and spd even though his growth is good. I actually think hero might be one of his better classes but have not tried it.
Fun fact, Anna starts out stronger than him at base as a axe fighter, lol. He'll need to have gain 4 levels by the time she joins for him to be somewhat stronger.
@@IcedCoffeeGaming yeah i've tried her as a warrior with the radiant bow, and she's still dishing out big damage thanks to her mag growth and the bow having high MT
Yeah. Warrior Anna is pretty obviously worse than taking her down Sage or something... but it's not BAD. Which is nuts to think about how many units compare unfavorably to a wizard doing pushups Just rando axe, Longbow, Radiant Bow, I dunno poleaxe or something, imagination.
You Have 4 chapter for Michaih abuse strat. Anna para louge, jean para, bridge fight with alcrsyt, and border fight before the chapter you lose rings. You can power level to 10 using body block cheese where you trap 1 enemy (archer best) and unequip weapons so he damages evryone then great sac, rinse and repeat. You can technically do it on chapter where you face elusia king but this would be mid game rings.
@@deelanders1 problem is ivy is aggressive which means you can't stall. Any map where the victory condition is kill boss and they charge you it makes very difficult
I have been playing a low tier game. I feel that I have found ghe use case for Boucheron. He needs to be a Berserker it takes him a long time to hit the cap. So, the real reason you are putting him on Berserker is to pump up his Build. If you give him a speed tonic he can avoid being doubled by most enemies on maddening while carrying a heavy weapon. Forget about doubling the man is kinda slow. Then you slap the highest +Hit that you can afford on him because Boucheron can not hit the broad side of a barn. Make a Smash Axe (I recommend the echos engraving to prevent random critical hits). Now instead of his damage coming from his strength score it comes from his weapon. With a Silver Smash Axe he can one shot, or come very close, many units. I have not made it to late game, but so far so good.
I've seen you run skip only three houses runs and thought okay it's possible. But you making boucheron a good unit I feel dumb founded. He couldn't hit the broadside or a barn for me but maybe I just had bad luck
I like Boucheron. I'd put him as a solid B because while he's not soloing any content, he was rarely by biggest liability and often useful. Didn't powerlevel and almost dropped him but early promote saved his stats and LB chains are funny. Lucina is a little redundant on him but it fixed his speed from "not doubled" to "doubles often". I have him on warrior because forged steel flier kills were too sweet to pass up.
He has a hilarious niche as the dude with high hp, no def, and no res - though you need dlc sadly. Soren reflect staff reflects 50% of magic damage taken, but boucheron can survive it with a few levels. Say he gets hit for 30 damage, and reflect claps back 15. It ALWAYS claps back, even against thunder or meteor users, and deals true damage. On the sigurd paralogue, he's basically my vodoo, anti-mage lightning rod. Holy stance ups the damage reflected, and holdout can keep him from being rng proof. The best part is, he gets xp this way since he technically deals damage during one round of combat. But why boucheron specifically? He has high hp, dogshit def and res, and nonexistent dodge on his own. He's very good at eating pure hp damage. This also lowkey gives him a niche vs monsters, as some deal true damage. Boucheron has the hp to tank through it regardless, and can offer some help with chain attacks after. It's a stupid build, but Boucheron is easily the best person for it.
He definitely is an early game hard carry if you put Sigurd on him. Obviously that's true for most units, but you only have a few options in the early game and none of them are amazing. Chloe doesn't need it, Alear can stick to Marth, leaves a handful of middling units... SOMEONE has to have it
That probably speaks more to how good Sigurd is that Boucheron to be honest. Sure Chole doesn't _need_ Sigurd -- but it's so much fun watching her turn into a Tasmanian devil that tears up the battlefield at lightning speed.
I honestly never really consider rings on units outside of Chloe Alear and a few others too worth due to SP from bonded rings only being half and no rings being 0.
Boucheron is 100% balanced around getting Moved to Tears activated, with his high speed and dex growths. The issue is that you don’t have ANY reasonable backups until Brodia (Anna’s too squish to stay in the front), where you get Lapis and Diamant, and he’ll have a bit of trouble early on. The update wave gives you a Steel Axe the moment you enter the Somniel without DLC, so you can slap that on the Bouche and it’ll help his offensive power early on at the cost of some speed(which forging fixes). I don’t count the Heroes weapons as DLC because they were there since the beginning of the game and requires no purchase or major time investment to get, so slapping the Noatun can fix his issues early on almost perfectly. Hm… now that I think about it, somebody IS doing a reverse recruitment run of FE Engage. I wonder how good Boucheron becomes with a later join time and higher bases.
If I'm not wrong, Second Seals are available the moment Diamant arrives. So now the question is would anyone immediately promote Diamant so he can start using hand axes, or... ...someone (other than Boucheron) becomes a Warrior with a Longbow. As a consolation, Lapis can become a Hero but Lapis isn't good...
@@erikbell1723 With only 3 master seals by that point he might not be a priority. Alear, Chloe, Celine, Jean, Louis are all contenders for that seal already. But come to think of it, Diamant is not half-bad. He's always had dex/accuracy problems but a sword may solve that when it's his turn to attack.
The problem I've been wrestling with about Berserker is that it dex caps in the low twenties, which is horrible on units with good dex growths. They end up hitting the cap around chapter 20 and their accuracy stops scaling. I've been thinking that Etie and Saphir make better zerkers because they have low dex growths but high strength, and then you could patch up accuracy with Sigurd's hit+ skills.
Then reclass into Warrior after hitting the dex cap. The only reason to stay as a Berserker is to use S rank axes on a unit that doesn't have innate axe proficiency.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 This guy gets it. Berserker is only really good for hyper aggressive units like 80 str growth, 60 spd growth Jean or 60 str, 60 spd growth Kagetsu. Even then eventually after 10-20 levels you will want to switch off and carry those str and spd gains elsewhere on those units. Also jean gets like 25 build growth as a berserker so worth it for that alone.
Yeah, everytime I've thought about it, it does ultimately look like Warrior is just the superior class, and Berserker is just a temporary growth class. There's that part of me that just wants to see if I can make it work though.
@@thepurge7964 Same, but for a different reason. When I thought about Jean's setting and the theorized lore of berserkers where some believe they ate hallucinogenic mushrooms before going into battle, I got the idea that he used his medicinal knowledge to brew insane drug cocktails in stead of medicine. For awhile after coming up with that idea, I couldn't get the image of Jean high out of his mind slaughtering soldiers with his giant axe out of my mind.
boucheron on griffin knight is insanely good, definitely S tier, if i invested into him then he be even stronger on my maddening run and being able to double naturally with stronger axes makes up for his low strength, plus he has +2 might passive
@@blazekip3207 Ah, so 5600 SP worth of skills and (either dumping most the DLC skill books on him or quite a bit of grinding) plus an Ike/Hector engrave. That's significantly different than just giving him a +2 brave axe
@@shadowfate05 Give him Axe Power 2 instead for 2000 SP. Will give him +4 dmg per Brave Axe swing. If you have back up units, his passive gives 2 more dmg per attack. If you want to invest more SP you can give him Speed+ and potentially quad (+8 from passive and +16 from axe power) depending on which ring you give him. If you don't want to go all in on Speed, give him Eirika ring and Ike/Roy engrave for more bonus dmg. At that point, his low strength won't even matter. If hes Warrior he gets even more utility (Bow, Merciless + Fracture combo) Boucherons high dex helps his axe hit rate, his high speed and build means hes safe from getting doubled even when using a heavy high dmg axe.
Jean becomes a better high build and speed axe unit with less investment as long as you reclass him into an Axe Fighter without leveling him up in Martial Monk. You just have to powerlevel him on chapter 9 with Micaiah and then temporarily make him a Berserker until he hits his dex or speed cap. Kagetsu can also be a better high build and speed axe user if you reclass him into Warrior or Wyvern Knight (sword/axe for brave sword). In other words, he's at most 3rd best at his intended role.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 It's worth it. Giving Jean an axe is like letting Gandhi adopt democracy. He just starts slaughtering everyone. Even if you don't want to powerlevel him, it's still worth the investment to get him caught up.
One really funny thing about Boucheron's passive is, like Alear's passive, is it is true damage, so he can do at minimum 6x4 damage with another lategame recruit's passive, and with a Corrin engrave to give the brave weapon 30 crit, he can one round the final boss without defeating any of the enemies that weaken his barrier, assuming a chain attack hits at ~30 hit, and getting danced twice (you can even dance him 3 times if he whiffs on some crits with Byleth and two Seadall dances). Not very practical but hilarious use of Bouche. With Eirika he might even do existant damage, not sure how the calcs work with the final bosses barrier.
Boucheron's damage (along with the other "true" damage skills, which are just added on after the Atk - Def/Res calculation) still gets reduced by 80% by the barrier. I just took an unleveled Boucheron into the final battle. Standing next to Alear, the game rounds down to 0 damage. If I bring in the other late game recruit or put a chain attack within range, Boucheron deals 1 damage.
I honestly don't think bourcheron would be benched as much as he is if he actually hit targets for once lol. Like I feel like he needs miciah to be relevant because he's missing out on so much xp at the start not hitting anything. He gets better when he advances to warrior and 2nd seal to hero but it takes a bit.
The nice thing about the hammer, is despite it's low hit rate, armored units have horrible avoid. So the end result actually isn't that bad as long as you've got the right target. But in any case, I wanted to like Boucheron. I used him my first blind run. He's the first unit I drop on every run now. 45% speed is nice. The build, paired with axes allows him to somewhat cover up his atrocious strength growth. But right out of the gate, despite build being his thing, he loses speed off an iron axe. Let me repeat that. HE LOSES SPEED OFF AN IRON AXE! The compact axe is the only weapon he can wield at base without speed loss. That base speed of 7 is effectively 6. In the fighter class, his massive 20% build growth gets a boost of 5%, meaning after 4 levels, he can wield an iron axe without slowdown. After an additional 8 levels, he can wield a steel or hand axe without slowdown. Now, at best, Build is as good as speed. It's appropriate to compare them together when wielding heavy weapons. His build+speed growth on axe fighter is 70%. Lapis on sword fighter has 80% combined Build and speed growth. This means even when wielding heavy weaponry, Lapis will be gaining speed faster. Do you run heavy weapons an Lapis? It's actually a better idea than you might initially think, but the point is, don't get districted by high build. You can use speed for the same purpose. I don't recommend Lapis btw, I just think she was good for making the point. His low base speed and heavy weapon penalty, combined with his high base strength plus strong weapon types and low strength growth, takes him on an awkward journey from a unit that may get doubled and hit back for decent damage, to a unit that might be able to double twice for poor damage, hilariously accomplishing just about the same thing, but a little better at taking hits. Ultimately though, he really should retire long, long before he starts doubling. Now, for the early game, fulfilling this role is acceptable. You deploy all of your units, he's one of your two axe users, everybody is busy being mediocre, and he manages to keep up by doing mediocre things in a mediocre way, with his mediocre allies. He's basically worse Vander. But Boucheron, along with Framme, are the two candidates for first unit to toss on the bench. Depending on if you'd like to have an extra healer or an extra combat unit. Also, the comparisson between Strength+ and Axe Power+ is laughable. 100 SP for +2 damage either way, but axe power also gives -10 avoid and only works on axes. 2000 SP for Damage +3, or +4 when using axes. Both of these lines are completely, and utterly unviable on any unit. It's just way, way, way too expensive. This brings up an interesting point though, Speed+ costs 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 for +1,2,3,4,5. Engravings with more than +1 Mt have atrocious downsides, while engravings with -Wt have only slight downsides. The broader picture is that the game makes it much easier to patch up a unit with mediocre speed than a unit with mediocre strength.
I saw a video of someone showing him as a hero and it was a pretty insane build, my question is he showed how to make it and you need to make him a berserker first for stat growth and then change him to hero. Where I’m confused is when you switch class doesn’t that change your stats? So does it even make sense to make him a berserker in the first place?
The idea behind it is to put him into berserker first so that he can he can maximize upon his strength, speed, and build growths. Once he's gotten enough levels into berserker and you feel comfortable with his stats then you can second seal over to hero. And yes, he will lose some stats gained from berserker but not all
Honestly his only early game competition is Diamant, but you may just not want to bother with an Axe unit at all. I don’t think he needs any SP skills until probably Ike tho The fact that he can use + Dmg + Build engraves without losing out is pretty cool. DLC bros can definitely make The Mighty Bouche into one of the best growth units tho
I made Boucheron a halberdier to do use the brave lance with pincer attack so he can take advantage of his unique skill and the Eirika ring. He’s been decent for me. A moderately fast and bulky unit that can hit pretty hard thanks to the build I’ve set up for him. Uses brave lance for player phase and silver lance for enemy phase. If I do another play through and use him again, I’d experiment with berserker with a silver greataxe. I can also imagine he’s decent as a paladin.
Did the same on my second playthrough, but with Lyn's ring, because his personal works with the doubles. With a forged and engraved Brave Lance, decent speed + Speedtaker, his personal, the doubles or other backups, Pincer Attack and whatever other skill that boosts damage, this man goes from Bencheron to Basedcheron.
Etie and Boucheron sitting on the bench... k.i.s.s.i.n.g Actually, that's probably harsh. He just has early unit syndrome. If he came later in the game with all the benefits that brings then he'd probably be okay by the sounds of it.
Yeah. If you got him later and could instantly reclass him into a more appropriate place, he'd be fine. His big problem is that he's horrific as an Axe Fighter, and let's be honest, you're not spending your first Master Seals on this guy.
One build thought with Boucheron ive thought about is hp tanking. Havent mapped any plan out, but high hp into berserker makes me wonder what could be done
I deploy him every map because he brings the himbo energy that represents this whole game very well.
He remembered leg day, so he can deadlift any weapon in the game, but he skipped arm days so he can't swing them very hard.
He must be using straps if thats the case
Oh no.

You probably should bring him on berserker then swap him onto either wyvern or warrior
I feel like wolf knights are the most dangerous enemy type in the game, aside from wyrms.
And Wyrms are weak to a bunch of Engage weapons - Wolf Knights require a super fast Ridersbane to beat them.

Anxiously waiting for the Amber guide
My first run was with DLC and Boucheron was my holder for Edelgarde’s braclet. I went Warrior and made him my Axe man. I was happy but Edelgard definitely elevated him and I’m not sure how he’d have felt without.
The longbow back up poke is powerful
He'll need to have gain 4 levels by the time she joins for him to be somewhat stronger.
oof. She did seem pretty viable on Warrior TBH
Which is nuts to think about how many units compare unfavorably to a wizard doing pushups
Just rando axe, Longbow, Radiant Bow, I dunno poleaxe or something, imagination.
Also don't forget the Brodia Castle chapter!
@@deelanders1 problem is ivy is aggressive which means you can't stall. Any map where the victory condition is kill boss and they charge you it makes very difficult
11-12 Bld promoting at level 10 is already pretty crazy
most people struggle to get that much by endgame
He couldn't hit the broadside or a barn for me but maybe I just had bad luck
lol he takes a while to get going but eventually can hit especially with an engraving
Louis is great with Sigurd, had Alear on Sigurd for a while too. Chloe and Celine borrowed Marth for some missions for Mercurius exp farming...
I honestly never really consider rings on units outside of Chloe Alear and a few others too worth due to SP from bonded rings only being half and no rings being 0.
Just give it to Louis bro.
Louis is right there.
Doesn't even matter if you plan on using him long term.
Sigurd on Framme for mov +1 and Canter on a healer
I think your videos could be improved with just having a table of the different growth rates for easy reference.
@@malcovich_games doesn’t Diamant join immediately able to Promote? He gets hand axe in successor anyway.
Just skip Berserker bro.
It's not worth it. Look. S rank axes and more build is temporary. Longbows are forever.
For awhile after coming up with that idea, I couldn't get the image of Jean high out of his mind slaughtering soldiers with his giant axe out of my mind.
boucheron on griffin knight is insanely good, definitely S tier, if i invested into him then he be even stronger on my maddening run
and being able to double naturally with stronger axes makes up for his low strength, plus he has +2 might passive
I'ma go berserker 1sr for some strength then go griffon knight so hopefully it works out for me
I have not used him since the Divine Paralogues!
I gave him a +2 brave axe and mid to late game he was doing over 70 DMG before any any could hit back and with 100 accuracy
How's a dude with 26 average strength if you go 10 axe fighter -> 20 berserker doing 35+ damage a hit with an 8 MT weapon in mid to late game?
@@shadowfate0511 mt with engraving but he was and str up skills help too. Str/dex +2 and str +4
@@blazekip3207 Ah, so 5600 SP worth of skills and (either dumping most the DLC skill books on him or quite a bit of grinding) plus an Ike/Hector engrave. That's significantly different than just giving him a +2 brave axe
@@shadowfate05
Give him Axe Power 2 instead for 2000 SP. If hes Warrior he gets even more utility (Bow, Merciless + Fracture combo)
Boucherons high dex helps his axe hit rate, his high speed and build means hes safe from getting doubled even when using a heavy high dmg axe.
Honestly for just a master seal worth of investment berzerker or warrior boucheron probably isn't the worst things you could do
Warrior Boucheron for the win
Boucheron doesn't work on Fixed growth mode.
On random, however, he can be VIABLE but not easy mode.
The mighty Boosh
Jean becomes a better high build and speed axe unit with less investment as long as you reclass him into an Axe Fighter without leveling him up in Martial Monk. You just have to powerlevel him on chapter 9 with Micaiah and then temporarily make him a Berserker until he hits his dex or speed cap. Kagetsu can also be a better high build and speed axe user if you reclass him into Warrior or Wyvern Knight (sword/axe for brave sword). In other words, he's at most 3rd best at his intended role.
That Jean tech sounds cringe af bro.
@@shadowfate05 Yeah, you're right. Didn't realize the damage reduction kicked into effect after his skill proc'd since it's an inbattle proc.
THE BOUCH
Let's be honest, Boucheron has the best name. BOUCHERON.
Boucheron is the best starsphere user in the game if your down with that
I saw a video of someone showing him as a hero and it was a pretty insane build, my question is he showed how to make it and you need to make him a berserker first for stat growth and then change him to hero.
And yes, he will lose some stats gained from berserker but not all
Bouchy Boy
Weird, did you spell his name wrong?
I thought it was Bencheron.
He's doing the lord's work warming up the benches for when the rest of the low tier units arrive.
Honestly his only early game competition is Diamant, but you may just not want to bother with an Axe unit at all.
I don’t think he needs any SP skills until probably Ike tho
The fact that he can use + Dmg + Build engraves without losing out is pretty cool.
DLC bros can definitely make The Mighty Bouche into one of the best growth units tho
I’ll probably try him because I didn’t touch axe units first run
bouche is cool 😎
I benched him. Doesn’t sound so bad.
Etie and Boucheron sitting on the bench... k.i.s.s.i.n.g
Actually, that's probably harsh.
Straight ot the bencheron
A guide on how to use Boucheron:
Step one - Bench.
Done.
He can probably tank TWO hits from a Maddening boss before you have a reason to bench him though.
Don't let him hit the bench, let him hit the ground.
Boucheron is basic
One build thought with Boucheron ive thought about is hp tanking. Havent mapped any plan out, but high hp into berserker makes me wonder what could be done
He can help with monsters who deal true damage
You could probably use Ike's resolve with that, it works wonders on making someone deceptively tanky
