I am a Tool & Die Maker but also spent years as both a Tool & Cutter Grinder and a Gear Cutter. it's fascinating to watch! We used German machines nearly 100 years old. Extremely precise. Final sizes were adjusted with a large wheel about 70 cm in diameter. to change depth by 0.001 inch, you would turn the outside of that wheel around 15cm. That's how close you could get sizes! In Canada, some of the things certainly wouldn't pass the Ministry Of Labor but still, there is a lot of talent there! Gears are a very difficult product to produce! Unimaginable to anyone who doesn't see it being done in person or not having done it themselves. I have, so I know. Smart people working there!! When I made cutters, my maximum allowable deviation was 0.0003 inches. However we had machines good enough that it was possible to get to 0.0001 or even less when truly needed. Better the cutter, better surface finish and tooth profile. Which increases the life of the gears.
I am a old toolmaker from Australia yes they do have skill but the machines are very old so the finish and tolerances would not be very good at all and the working conditions are so very unsafe.
@@kennethsayce8645 When I was building Dies, we'd have Customers walk around the shop, they'd stop to talk to us sometimes. We've built things for them before and they came back for another new job. They seen our machines and the free play. They were amazed at the quality of our dies considering the crap we had to work with. Sometimes on a milling machine, you'd have to work close to the end of travel where the Ways weren't worn out so much. It sure made what should be an easy job, quite difficult... but the boss had a new car every few months (literally) I lost count how many he had. He also had the 3 company trucks go out for detailing every few days. plenty of money for that, nothing for upgraded machines.
In sandals. How many hours of operation can they expect out of all that labor? Pakistan can make nukes now. They have a little stand off everyday with India. I recently had a need for a larger air compressor and got one from a body shop that had no motor. India bought patents from I.R. I ordered new valve plates and connecting rods and piston ring from E-Bay Honed out both sides got a like new Baldor motor and it has been running well. India also years ago bought old Vespa patents. Timken bearings come saying Made in India. Modern tools are coming to every land. It has been World Parts for quite some time. I tune in to see the guys who braze a carbide tip to a scrap jack handle and bore a hole. Once in the blood this metal addiction never goes away.
Fascinating precision workmanship 😳😳🏆
This has to be one of the most impressive things I've seen. A machine shop that works more or less outdoors. Everything looks so dirty and impossible but these guys turn scrap into the most functional and precise work ever. The next time I need to fix something, these are the ones to get the job done. All respect, you deserve all respect!
@@Lorin-GabrielLeaua-fm1lw I'm very interested to know why being religious make you knowing how to do stuff more than others....
i doubt they are very precise.

I can't believe all this workers are all professional machinist, from measurements & cutting in a lathe are truly precise & putting it together are like factory made but you guys skill's cannot be compared or under estimated by any other who wants to compete your skill's, magnificent job
I’ve been machining for 47 years I started out on old-school equipment like this. I have nothing but admiration and respect for these men very talented. I know what it takes to make these parts on old-school equipment.
Glad to hear That
Including not any form off safety, and therefore no respect for human live
I thought they were pretty safe for the most part compared to alot of crappy worksite videos I've seen. Should have masks though, among other things. Edit: oh my welding with no hood lol..
*'%😮😅
Is this machinery really 100 years old?
Hard work and the smiles on many of these guys tells me they enjoy what they are doing. They have a level of pride that far too few people today know or understand. These workers are amazing!
I would love to film the progress of a job in a foundry, it has opened eyes to real hard work. Busting up engine blocks to recast rotors and cylinder liners. The chucking of large castings using a bent wire. These are one hundred year old techniques.

Incredible & amazing.

awesome video, nothing but admiration for the craftsman.
All those workers should be very proud of their skill, labour and craftmanship.
Bonjour du Canada Bravo for all the worker on this vidéo ,for her hard work and good skill .
I am from Ahmedabad. In my town we do have such a big lathe the milling machine the vertical late and we have all the things that I see here that can be made in my town. I see all the workers have great skill with their own manufacturing machine the gear box they have made is humongous. Great work great skill great understanding and I hope you all have great success in your life.

Once made and painted, these gears look like goods from any Western country. Respect for these employees.
Wow!... Each Person Knows their Job. That's Why They Can Do This Kind of Work Well... and Not Get Hurt or Damage the Machinery Too. Thanks for Sharing
Every machinist should start their profession like these guys. This is how you learn with practical hands on experience.
Awesome skill level without any formal technical education. They learn it on the job, mostly from father to son or older brothers to their young. This here is Pakistan most people dont know about. Great video.
сомневаюсь что там нет образования,,, по видео индусы молодцы
@@user-il5nr6yl6g they are Pakistanis, not Indians.
You do not know that. I think at least some of them have higher education and understand in depth all processes involved.

Great hard working Machinists from Pakistan. A job well done. You hands and eyes are just as good as CNC machine's computer. God Bless you gentlemen. Thank you for your hard work and effort. We Pakistani people thank you, for your hard work.

Very beautiful work love to see more Your guys are doing great work
Could you imagine a UK factory inspectors face if he walked into this place !!!!! Great video, just goes to prove real craftsmen still exist.
They don’t care not in England
Btw. I had a chance to visit a machine building factory in the UK in 1985, it was in much worse condition than the one in the video.
But a UK inspector will not walk into this place. As such, that is a pointless exercise to think about.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING WORK !!! you guys are top notch craftsmen.........keep it up boys.....GREAT STUFF.
I started my engineering apprenticeship using machines of this era, no CNC machines in those days! Well remember cutting keyways in shafts with an old shaping machine similar to the one in this video. Great skill shown by all. Been retired now more than 20 years.
... Before ⚡ Electricity Then Eh?...
называется строгальный вертикальный называется долбежный
@@TS-1267 Yes we had electricity but many of the machines were actually belt driven from a huge central motor and a long high mounted shaft full of pulleys (not the shaper). My first job as an apprentice was to check the belts each morning and treat them with resin to prevent slipping. Happy days with little money!
@TS-1267 I still set up and run a 100" Newark gear and sprocket gasher. The gigantic 3ø motor is retrofitted on the jackshaft.
Esses homens sao barrio
It's always so amazing, you look at the western world, see a modern factory building. Then you look at these guys, basically making everything in a shed/out in the open. And yet they still make amazing stuff. Best example that you can achieve everything when you're dedicated enough
Glad to hear That!!! Thanks
You still need the industrial mills
All the equipment they are using was bought from the west, usually at a knock down price, due to Western production being uncompetitive. Western production is uncompetitive due to unions asking for large wages, health and safety laws and environmental standards.
There are glorified polebarns across the country that do the same work under their roofs.
This is why some countries are superpowers and some are not
It's great to see how they care about their safety at work
Great People and Engineers...
Fireball left the chat, amazing video, I was enthralled by it, I served my time as an apprentice tool maker making press tools, single stage and progression, and I was always in awe of our big old radial drills, forget the CNC and EDM machines it was those big old mysterious grumbling slow moving dinosaurs that got me, the sound of an 80mm bit cutting into steel and the snap of the thick chip flying off, sounds only a few will hear, anyway, super video, subscribed
i am so impressed what these real mechanics can do with such old eqiupment. such people we need in our country !
Glad you liked it
Look around. Assuming you're in the US, we use the same equipment in shops across the country, every day.
I hope these workers get a share of the TH-cam revenue that this video produces. They certainly deserve it!
FANTASTIC WORK, this is something that is past down for years.
I really enjoyed this video as it brought back great memories when i work in a similar heavy shop, those days were happy days 1960's , 57 years ago! god bless america
I dont miss thsoe days, had to work 9 hours machining engines and couldnt rest a minute even, i was always on my feet and working.... boss was stupid , and even during the luch he was harrasing me,, he gave me a broken chair to seat on the table saying he hadnt another chair..
had to bring food from my hosue he couldnt even pay me the food for sometimes or goiung to anext door restaurant.., somtims ahd to eat cold food. becasue had a broken microwave...

This omnipresent mess and dirt also irritates me. An employee rides on suspended material, gears straight from machine tools land on a floor full of sand, stones and remnants of processed material. Lots of foundry sand and precision bearings, and before final assembly, the employee only wipes them with a dirty rag!
Excellent
Thank you so much! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our work. Your support means the world to us. Stay tuned for more excellence coming your way! 🌟👍
This process has been nothing but fascinating. Thank you to the compiler! This is marvellous.
You're very welcome!
These skills will be dearly missed, nowadays the younger generations are helpless whitout an automated machine. Nothing but respect for these guys.
Glad to hear That
The good thing is that we can always re-learn those skills if needed. After all, if you know about metallurgy, machining speeds etc from working with automated machinery (those things need to be programmed too! Do it wrong and you'll snap your tool or ruin your finish) you can replicate what the machine does, but manually.
Besides that, we've got a great teaching tool: TH-cam.
Ah yes, the oder Generation blaming the youth, while creating the problems they bemoan. Who would want invest in education anyways.
It's different skills. Similar work to this in the West in now at vastly higher tolerances and requires a different skill set. Notice the lack of IT in the video.
at my work we are running tons of vintage machines like that and the average age of the people running them us under 40. there are still people that can run manual machines.
Incleible el trabajo que hacen , maquinas que ya no existen en USA, arduo labor merecen 100% de aprobación, ingeniosos ingenieros la mayoría son veteranos.

What an absolute joy that was to watch. I am envious of those machines, taking such deep cuts on such massive pieces of steel and laughing it off. You've got an amazing setup and evidently you've got the skill to use it properly. Thanks for sharing this, it's superb, well done.
On everything
I served my apprenticeship as a toolmaker in a gear cutting company and one of the jobs I did was to grind the final shape on to the cutting gear being used in this video to cut the gears. Amazing video bye the way .
You worked with gear cutting tools and never picked up that those are called hobs?
AMAZING !!

I find these videos to be satisfyingly simple, mesmerizingly complex, and eternally intriguing!! Thank you for publishing them. You are a master of your art! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Wow, these guys are performing an art with their skills turning a shapeless piece of steel into a beautiful gear that weighs as much as a car. These guys know what they are doing for sure. This may be old technology but they show they have mastered it.

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The size of some of the old metal working machines is impressive. It is definitely old school using many man-hours of labor and days of machine time. Compare it to modern day giant CNC machines that hog out the metal for helical gears in minutes compared to hours using just one operator. The contrast is stunning.
absolutely
Most short-run plants are still using hobbers and shapers built from the 1940's to the 1970's. The CNCs today are nice, but most places refuse to buy new when the 50-80yo workhorses are still running and making parts.
The conventional hobs are expensive enough, the high-speed tooling is exorbitantly expensive, and usually reserved for high-volume and well-tuned processes.
Much respect , I’m impressed.
Glad to hear

Safety is our number 78 priority!
I have been in the machining trades most of my life. This work somehow puts your mind at ease. Also, the bigger the machine the easier the job. But you have to be someone who make the fewest mistakes, PERIOD !! The mistakes I made per year you could count on your one hand and I had fingers leftover. The metal per job was in the tonages. Hope that makes sense. Good day and peace too. vf
Absolute sense, Very well described.
When their 100,000 dollar gear blank suddenly turns into a boat anchor, people tend to get a little testy.
@@cojones8518 What you said is right on fella. Just add an extra zero on your dollar number. Most jobs were is that range but there were a lot of simple and cheap stuff too. Like squaring die shoes from die machines. Peace and out, vf
@@cojones8518 Indeed it'$ hard to throw that piece on the roof , it's why I avoid the BIG $TUFF , we need not worry about that in Canada anymore , no one has this capacity anymore , everyone builds Mickey M.O.U.$.E automated machinery here these days
defnitely don't want to be making mistakes when safety is clearly not of-concern (not sure I saw a single person with eye protection!)
I cant imagine what they would be capable of building with modern equipment and a pair if Red Wings. ❤

Very good skilled work by these hard working persons and a good team work .nice to watch
BEASTIE BOYS ! My back hurts like hell after I watch these dudes ! Old school at it's best !
I put the gear on the shaft with the help of a battering ram, but I didn’t try to heat it with an induction wire, or at least propane oxygen with a cutter, so you can break all the bearings with a sledgehammer
I don,t think I ever saw an inductions heater untill the mid 60,s, then when machining the shafts we took a micrometer reading of the clearance of the roller race to allow for the expansion, or it would be to tight or to slack, but its all done on computers now,
THEY,LL CATCH UP, THEY MOST LIKELY ALREADY HAVE, FT,
