I'll never forget seeing the Scorchers at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA circa 1988. With my elbows on the stage, a dude leaned in and was crushing a girl against a monitor, whereby Jason moved up and put a cowboy boot in the dudes mouth, and they never missed a beat. Warner, was, and is a wizard on the guitar. And best of all, he's a fan. I'd get just as big a thrill sitting down with him as he gets with Gibbons. Otis, thank you so much for pulling the curtains back for all of us. God bless you.

Jason and the Scorchers. back in 1985 were THE southern rock band on the scene...( nobody seemed to realize REM were from Georgia😂)... I bought their first 45 and then from there and got into Dwight Yoakam and Steve earle's first records and then the Georgia Satellites came out it all seemed to make sense kid for a kid raised on Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers

Warner is a damned string monster himself. Listening to him and Gibbons jam would be incredible.

Speaking of famous Gibson guitars I had honor of playing one that may not be quite as well known as Billy's Pearly Gates or Page's No. 1 or Greenies 59 but it is still an iconic guitar . This one is Lonnie Mack's Serial number 7 Flying V with a Bigsby , bought new in 1958 and Lonnie's main instrument from day one til his passing in 2016. I am friends with his family and got a chance to plug it in and play a few chords . It's a heavy SoB , both literally and tone wise. Didn't have a Leslie cabinet or a Magnatone amp so I wasn't sounding like Lonnie but it was a pleasure to play that instrument. Thank you for the vids Otis . I've been turned on to a lot of musicians as a direct result of your vids and that's something I appreciate

My son is good friends with a very famous rock singer songwriter who rented the top floor of a hotel in Vegas for his birthday bash a few years back all kinds of big names invited and my son said the one guy everyone was gathered around was Billy , he said it was the coolest thing he’d ever seen and that Billy was about a thousand times cooler than you could imagine he was 😀

Jimmy Page's #1 Les Paul was given to him by Joe Walsh. Page played a Tele on the first Zep album and was looking for a LP but couldn't find one in Britain. They come to the states and do some shows with The James Gang and Joe hears Page's dilemma. Joe had two LP's at the time and gave Page his #2 LP. So Jimmy's #1 LP was Joe's #2 back in the day.

Thanks Warner for the "learning on an acoustic guitar makes you heavy handed" statement.
I have that same problem, strats, teles, are too delicate for me, only electric I can halfway play is my Gretsch.

That's why I learned to play slide in standard tuning. If you get handed an unplayable guitar, pull out your glass noodle and play some blues. When the levee breaks always hits.

I've always wondered about the Eliminator recording. Wikipedia claims Dusty Hill and Frank Beard's tracks were redone by the producer. That must have upset the band. But ZZ Top did have massive success with that album.

If you have a minute do a search for some of the Eliminator tracks but put 'live' after them. They are way, way, way better songs than you might think. They sort of reeked of 80s production at the time, still do of course, but they're snappy little tracks. Rev G did a fine job getting back in the mainstream and cashing checks with that record, but the songs are better than most poeple think.

Great stories, as always. I relate to the squeezing too hard comments. I used medium strings in my D-28. It is like taking a vacation each year when I sub in my D-18 with light strings. It is even more of a (hand/finger) relief the rare time I play my Tele each year or two. Please keep the interesting stories coming. It's a highlight of my day.
