- Champion Live On Tour In Beaumont, TX! The video is from my Gopro and the audio is from my monitor mix feeding into the Gopro (monitor engineer KT Aguilar). This is a fun behind-the-scenes look and listen to what I hear when we play live (instruments, leaders, click, cues, MD, etc). It's like going behind the scenes for me and understanding how it works during worship.
I have a question, though. With this track and clicks, how does it feels for the band to feel the Spirit while playing?
The click and cues never get in the way. We usually do a song arrangement and then might go into spontaneous if we or the worship leader feels led…from there we might end it or maybe go back into the song for a chorus or something but typically we always do the song arrangement before any spontaneous. It’s the launching pad and landing strip.
After some years playing with click you don’t even notice it’s there anymore..

Thanks for doing this David! These IEM live videos help out a ton. I can not only see what your playing, but hear the effects and parts you are achieving in a live mix that's not post edited. One question, do you have Vibrato or Chorus on in a lot of these parts? It almost sounds like it is on very subtle, but I could be wrong. Thanks man!
Also that bridge pickup sounds killer and is very clear and Bell like, without the typical Bridge pickup sound you typically hear!

i've never played to a click. not sure i could get into it. does give a very clear tempo. cool to hear your in ear mix, another thing i've never gel'd with, they give me a head ache, probably because never used quality set.
probably the most important is the mix, if you just use a $40 wired amp like a behringer p2, and $40 in-ears, you can have a fantastic in-ear mix if it's done properly and hear more clearly and be super into the mix and all that. main thing that most people overlook which is the BIGGEST thing is running your ears in stereo to pan everything out like it sounds in real life, and then adding crowd microphones to get the sound of the audience and the PA filling the room back in your ears!

This is what I hear. Audio straight into the gopro, no mixing.
Question: with IE monitoring, how much of a feeling you got, on how it sounds in front of stage, so that you could adjust your sound (for example more or less reverb)?
or do you just trust your audio engineer that it will sound good?
I’ll shoot. A lot of it is trust in your FOH. You can only control the source, once it leaves you it’s up to them. IEMs completely eliminate the room factor so of course it’s going to be as best as the sound will sound. It’s up to you and your relationship with your FOH to make compromises so it sounds best in both!
Most IEMs mixes I’ve used have had the option get a pre-channel feed not affected by FOH mixing. So what I send is what I hear in my ears.
@@NobleJamsRock what i thought of was, that for example when playing in a big room/venue, the amount of reverb on your guitar-signal will sound different depending on the room and stuff...when olaying with IEM i dont really have a good feeling of what it sounds like for the crowd
@@matthiasgerlach786 I pull one ear partially or all the way out for smaller venues so I can hear FOH. And even in big venues for quiet flowy moments. But it is a lot of trusting the audio guy to make sure it sounds good in FOH.

Do you pan your own guitar slightly more to one side or is that just me imagining it?
Yes, it is accented to the right for sure and Jonathan’s guitar is more prominent on the left. Both of our stereo amps are hard panned left and right but my right amp is louder and his left amp is louder, essentially panning them while keeping the stereo image wide.
Curious. Are the lead singers going through vocal tuners to tighten up vocals?
Nope, no live tuning.

@@DavidHislop yep won’t be getting those 😂 I guess playing as much as you do you want the best. I gotta upgrade though, you ever used the lesser versions of these? Like quad drivers?
Also as I’m typing this I see they have freakin 18 driver monitors…. That’s insane.
Yes, I had the V6s model for a long time before upgrading to these. I don’t know if they make those anymore, but I definitely recommend investing in molds.
The V6s sounded pretty good (way better than cheap stuff like shure 215’s etc) but the A12t’s were a whole new level of clarity and detail.
@@DavidHislop Gotcha! Yeah I bet, double the drivers! I guess it’s hard justifying that cost for something so small… ha I mean I could buy a new guitar with that! the thought of saving for years to buy in ears makes me sick 😂
