I have been wanting one for awhile now and I was lucky enough to pick up this exact knife that you reviewed. Your review is spot on. You were 100% right....it hurts but all of the good outweighs the liner lock.
3 year old video yes, Discontinued knife, maybe..... But I literally just bought one from the Spyderco Direct Online Store -- It is currently 11-10-23, picked it up for $296. Dang MC... everything you said about it is right, the fit and finish and execution feel of the materials are quite impressive (Tai Chung factory FTW). I've just ordered an MXG Gear deep carry clip for it, the same that a Para Military 2 uses. I'm excited to start carrying this guy, man its good. I'm quite willing to deal with the inconvenience of the disengagement of the liner lock, all the good outweighs that slight bad IMO.
Thanks for the review. GB2 was my outdoors edc for quite a while and for my use one of the best Spydercos ever made. A really solid knife. That linerlock is comsiderably easier to use than in my original Gayle Bradley. Locking bar was like twice the size in that one. Yes, it could be easier to use, but if I remember correctly it was designed that way to prevent accidental unlocking during twisting motions. It is not the most playful knife in the world, it was designed to be used and it excels in that. The only reason I’m using another knife today was M4 bladesteel. I really need a stainless steel in my user knives. I use them in wet environments, for food preparations etc and it sometimes can take even couple of days before I can clean it. Everytime I open my knife drawer and se it, it still gives me warm feelings. Just love the knife, maybe a Gayle Bradley or Bradley 2 in S35vn? With framelock or compression lock so it would be easier to use with gloves on? That would be VERY nice knife 🙂
Cruwear GB2 just hit the market. Knifesteelnerds ranked Cruwear as about as stainless as D2, and potentially more stainless, depending on heat treatment. Great steel.
I have one on the way. I also have a Gayle Bradley advocate on the way as well. I love M4 steel I can't wait. They are not discontinued by the way brother, they are in stock all over. They just sold out everywhere for awhile that's all.
@@geraldrice8012 no, that is not a design feature. This is small, but real issue that has plagued many liner lock designs. That's why newer designs (both liner locks and frame locks) have dips in the show side scales to allow for better access to the lock itself. Don't believe me? Go look at any popular liner/framelock released in the last 3-4 years. All are that way now. How high or low the show side scale is holds no bearing over the strength or dependability of the actual lock. It was simply something that got changed over time because a lot of people recognized it as a frustration.
@@metal_complex I have had the fat of my index finger get in between the lock bar, and the show side before. It was on a knife where there was not a ton of lock bar pressure (drop shutty action over safety), and thelock disengaged. I wasn't putting a lot of pressure on the knife, so it was fine. Still made me think about whether or nor I trusted the knife under more extreme forces..
I enjoy your videos. Great review. I have a question for you. I can get this knife in CPM M4 or CruWear right now. I have no experience owning M4. I do like the way it patinas. I do own a couple cruwear knives I like. Which steel do you like better on a EDC knife?
Super late to this party... but I'm so glad these weren't discontinued. I love this design. My only gripe is the weak detent. it's too easy to shake open. almost dangerously so. Love, Love, Love that hollow grind M4!
Someone get this man the Gayle Bradley 1. Now THAT was a great Spyderco. The only knives I like more are my Hinderers and CRK Inkosi, the GB1 bring very similar enjoyment while in use.
I had one once and got rid of it because I didn't like it. I bought it again today because I've never been able to get it out of my head. Things only knife people understand.
Pretty sure it isn’t discontinued. Advocate got axed, but the GB2 is still in the 2020 catalogue. Sold out everywhere, but near as I can tell still in the works.
Metal Complex Can be preordered of Knifecenter; it does state that it has been delayed by the manufacturer. My guess is CQI. But hold on to hope and we shall see. Hope I’m right but will of course concede if it turns out I’m not.
@ablackprep Haha, that is the trend these days now isn't it? Either that or an axis style lock. Axis locks typically have horizontal blade play so I don't think we'll see one on the GB3 but I could be wrong.
@ablackprep Unfortunately the GB3 is not a real knife. I'm just saying that if they ever made one I hope contoured handles are the biggest change they make.
They are stuck on the store here in Costa Rica, I saw last Friday (9.11.2020). Maybe is because they are made in Taiwan an most locals don't know who Mr Bradley is...
Just got one and am returning it. The knife is great in hand, love the blade, scales have good texture. But that friggin liner lock! First deployment and the skin on my thumb is torn up. It's seriously painful and sucks. Gonna get an artisan centauri instead.
why do some many knives of distinction get discontinued? knife nuts have only so much money and most knifers want cheap knives. lesson: buy it today, cause it will be gone tomorrow. it's just that simple.

Its not discontinued though. Its in stock again now on a few sites but its selling fast everywhere it comes in stock
I hear ya. I had the Bradly2 in my cart more than once. As I recall, the cost at the time made it a value too.

Can still buy GB2 in UK 🇬🇧 Anyone want details let me know they post to USA over here £200
Cruwear GB2 just hit the market. Knifesteelnerds ranked Cruwear as about as stainless as D2, and potentially more stainless, depending on heat treatment. Great steel.
So happy they brought these back

The liner lock is made that way on purpose to minimize the possibility of it unlocking during heavy use.
Its not the lock that bothers me. It's the show side liner. They need to cut it down for better access to the liner lock.
Metal Complex I understand that the show side is what makes it hard to unlock, it’s designed to be hard to unlock.

mine has a great detent, no way this thing's getting shook open...
I just picked up one of these that's basically brand new for 200. Dunno if that's a good price, but the guy who is selling it to me is a good dude

The GB2 is a better knife. Looks better, and is better proportioned. Both function the exact same.
@@TheBigToe69
I disagree, but that is ok. LOVE my GB1 wound trade it for the 2 EVER.
Which model mxg clip is on this?
I've wanted one for a long time, but that liner lock access would drive me nuts. Still might get one if I run across it though. Great review.
Love that green Metal Knight helmet upgrade 😉👊
Good review as always sir! Supposedly a Gayle Bradley 3 is in the works too!
I am wondering whether the pandemic has put some breaks on that one ... have not heard anything about it
Looks like a great user. Especially with that awesome hollow grind. I should have picked one up...
Blade Hq has them in stock right now for $171. Knife Center also has them for the same price.
I had one once and got rid of it because I didn't like it. I bought it again today because I've never been able to get it out of my head.
Things only knife people understand.
I regret selling mine awhile back. So I scored one on the secondary yesterday. I plan to get micarta scales for it. 👍

I haven't seen one for sale in probably a year. My guess is it's gone.

Ah well... that's the thing about knife center... they leave it that way for TONS of knives that never come back in stock. Not a sure thing there.
Metal Complex Fair point sir. Fingers crossed.
Metal Complex It is in stock right now at Blade Hq, Knife Center and DLT for $171.50.
I hope that if they ever make a Gayle Bradley 3 they just add contoured handles to it. That's my main gripe with an otherwise flawless knife.
@ablackprep Haha, that is the trend these days now isn't it? Either that or an axis style lock. Axis locks typically have horizontal blade play so I don't think we'll see one on the GB3 but I could be wrong.

Nice, almost got one myself.
They’re back at Blade HQ. Just picked one up!
This is available on Amazon right now
Is “fidget friendly” a term used to politely let people know that you don’t actually use a knife as a knife?
I cannot get the blade to center on mine
They are stuck on the store here in Costa Rica, I saw last Friday (9.11.2020). Maybe is because they are made in Taiwan an most locals don't know who Mr Bradley is...
Taiwan has incredible manufacturing. If you're ever in harbor freight you can pretty much buy anything made in Taiwan and it's going to be a steal.
Just got one and am returning it. The knife is great in hand, love the blade, scales have good texture. But that friggin liner lock! First deployment and the skin on my thumb is torn up. It's seriously painful and sucks. Gonna get an artisan centauri instead.
สวยงามมากครับ
I actually have the original Gayle Bradley. It has the same issue with the liner lock. RazorEdge Knives actually does mods for this. I am tempted.
Benchco gripabradley.. is what it would be called
Thanks MC...

Ahh the benchterco paratilian 2
#spydermade #paragrip
I lost my gb2 somehow. RIP gayle.
Ordered one today. Spyderco themselves said it’s a regular item and not discontinued. It was just back-ordered.
Still in production bought mine 3
days, I'm English
Benchderco Paratilian 🤣
If only they had its liner lock as accessable as the Gordon challenger knife has; say what you wish about the rest but the liner acess is great.
