Years ago when I was playing this my little brother broke the playstation while I was fighting Foulou, I was too lazy to play it all over again, but thanks to you I can at least see what happened next! haha
This game was awesome the only thing I would take out are the 3d bosses. The spriting in the normal monsters was amazing but the 3d ones felt lifeless and dull.
At that time 3D was a biggie so they used it and mixed it. Kinda sad that they went that way. It worked great with Breath of Fire 3

@Yol Riin Lask i just don't dig the pokemon style dragon forms of bof 4 anymore. Hey, maybe i just grew out of it? I don't know. Bof 1 and 3 had better dragon forms, i feel like those aged better. Take it or leave it.😄😄😄😄
@@taciolothar3794 the more i study art, the less i can appreciate breath of fire 3's art direction. I feel like it trys to hard to be like chrono trigger. Went from absolutely loving a game, to having a mixed feeling about it. 🤔🤔🤔😞😞😞

The dialogues has no voices. But I never tired reading those. The dialogues always interesting to read. And the story is great.
how come i got the better ending? I killed my teammates and got to rule the world.
It became a pain to level-up in this game once you hit level 40+. It took a lot of fighting to get a little EXP. If can remember correctly I was around lvl 45 by the end of the game.
It's not that hard if we only reach lv60.. we can farm with "bot" only use burn + eddy and vitalize...
I was leveling for about a week only to kill "bot"
I loathe this BoF-IV with a passion for the first time on expsx emulator, after losing almost 30 hrs of grinding and running the story mode after getting a new smartphone...Anyways Ivory glass should be obtain (I can't remember where to get them) since it can max exp.gain to 65k and the zennies (I'm uncertain)option if I remember that correctly. Other than that, I've been using the cheats on duck station to Speedrun this wasted potential call BoF-IV

all my chars were over lvl 50 for this fight and took me like 1 hour to kill Foulou, fucking hard boss to beat
What? Did you just spam attack over and over again? I'm sure he goes down easily against such characters.
Some effects of the spells are not displayed on ePSXe, hopefuly version 1.80 will fix this.

Played this game recently on epsxe AGAIN! Dammit this game is sooo goood killed this at 39 lvl chars was HARD...I admit though my buff,shadow walk,shining blade tech kicked his ass...main challenge is getting royal sword and still winning this battle!! :D
This story reminds me so much of Houshin Engi. It took place in ancient China (before Qin in fact), and had to do with gods leaving the world.
Yes, BOF4's setting and theme are heavily based on ancient China

Just use warshot on cray its a fairy skill and put all fairys on army and music to get 64% power up, fokus on ryu and focus on scias ( with his king armor from riders)
Then wait it until reach 2 poin and reapet warshout on cray, then use vitalise with nina it will make all of your team get 64/68(front line) +12% power ( all team)
The use cray triple blow, ryu with shadawwalk and scias with shining blade and KABOOOMMM you can kill Tyrant and astral dragon just for 4-6 turn

I remember finish this game about a decade ago lol may I just say that this battle is ridiculously long, not only to watch but in game itself. It gets boring after some time.
One of the hardest boss battle ever in the history of rpg/jrpg i have ever played
brings back memories, fuck I remember wen I was a kid my mom even got angry and shut the freakin' PC by the time I beat fou-lou didn't even let me save the game .. took me only 15 min. to beat the crap outta him though ^^ ..

Absolutely love this game, and this ending is a masterpiece. My girlfriend and I are working on voice acting the whole ending, the first part is on my channel now. Remake/re-release when, Capcom?
this fight isn't hard, it's just the first form takes everything out of you and by the time you get to the second form, you've exhausted so much of your AP and Items. that and... I also am extremely under leveled for this fight every time I get to it.
Its not that it has better graphics, they have two different styles. BoF 3 has harsher drawlines and solid colours, whereas Breath of Fire IV lacks the drawlines and has colour degradation. The only point where they screwed it up was when they introduced 3D models in a 2D sprites game, like the Astral Dragon for Example.
First time I got to Fou-Lu (age 9) I was like "let's do this", after an hour of fighting I was like "Yes! I fianlly beat him, god He was so hard, unbelievable" and then His second form appears and I'm just like "... No... but I have to, it's already 4am and dad's getting back home at 6".
#EDIT- Forgot to add that I beat him with levels 25-30.

@@decastar2819 I still re-play the game nearly every year and as a grown up it's not that difficult to beat him with 25-30. Years ago without internet and only a PSX you had no way to check the bot exp farm etc. and farming anything for more than 10 minutes was a drag so we'd rather advance and try every 2-3 levels.
I know this is 8 years old and you may never even play this game again lol. But you're supposed to always use Super Combo as the 3rd input. That way the meter will be fully charged and you can get extra hits. 😁

@@johann296 and still exist in the same world. opens up possibilty to confront Yuna. also I'm happy that Ryu dan Fou-lu could co-exist, sure it feels like a highschool drama ending, but stil BoF4 has a lot of things that unfinished.
they made it a freakin touch screen online multiplayer android game..Very disappointing.

I once came with lvl 65 into that battle and it was really not that hard anymore , with more than enough healing items at my disposal and also dmg counts after buffing above 10 k with shadowwalk and shining blade . Was quite amusing in the end
You probably don't even need to be at that level to make it so easy, with certain items you can conserve your AP and stuff and fight beyond your ability. I thought that aspect was pretty cool.

Very disappointed in BoF4 breaking so many traditions. Past BoF never have you fight the Black Dragon as the final boss.
I love the art style in general. But I don't like some of the dragon transformations. I much prefer breath of fire 1 and 2 dragon transformation s.
There r two ending in this. The "sucky" one or this one... And to answer the question below abt the graphics... I played this in the ps1 and i could tell u its the problem on his emulator.. Coz i know for sure its not this bad but at least its playable.

Yeah me too, the 3rd one is just beautiful, it has amazing story flow and a bright but kinda gloomy world.
5 does too and has a stellar soundtrack to boot. But forget the failed MMO.
I'd say the 2nd is the best then 1=4>3>5
While 5 wasn't very good it could maybe pass as a spinoff game or something. 6 doesn't count imo lol.

The only thing i didnt liked in this game was the camera
this is pretty bad ending. yuna is around without stronger being keep them in check. he is basically free to do whatever dark magic he want without worries now that fou lu is gone for good. and the new ryu looks like dont really think or care that far to rout out evil. all he care is that to not allow godly power interfere with human society.
can't say i agree with ryu here, tho fou lu ending is too vague to interpret but i believe he at least kill those evil humans.
anyway bof4 is splendid dark fantasy game which provokes mind to think and ponder about religion and humanity.
I killed him today with characters at level 37 and 36 and my characters didnt have all these moves. I killed him on my first try. This game is easy. This guy is focusing too much on using focus and buffing characters. For the first dragon fight just have Ryu go into the flame dragon and cast the level 3 fire followed by ursula or ershin using inferno and end with a typhoon from nina or ershin and he goes down easily. Focus with scias and then put him back and use him after three focuses with shining blade. the second fight is basically the same. Spam Combo magic and use scias' shining blade. This guy took way too long with his overpowered characters and all dragon spells.

really his normal attacks are your biggest concern since they can one-shot Nina or Ursula if you didn't focus on raising their defense through masters.

Stop smoking weed or whatever you're addicted to and you'll see these are pretty neat graphics. The animation here is far more fluid and variable, and the motions such as the flow of hair easily make it the best game in terms of visuals.
@@sharilshahed6106 Pretty neat washed out dull colors look? The use of a more vibrant color palette would have done wonders for this game. You're confusing animation quality for art style. The art style in this game sucks the animation quality doesn't.
No wonder these games never reached Squaresoft peaks- the battles are boring as hell. Remember the final fight in FF7? Dramatic and cinematic AF!!!
