  • The kingdom is threatened from within! The sorceress Vanestra has enchanted the king and the loyalist prince has been jailed. His only hope: to escape through the sewers with his band of allies in the form of mice, thanks to the magic of the court wizard at his side.
In this video I take you through Chapter 1 of Mice and Mystics, explaining some rules and decision-making as I go.

Many many thanks for this video!
The rulebook is sometimes a bit hard to understand or not clear about details. You did an excellent job here!

This is one of the best playthroughs on the internet. You helped to clarify a lot of the rules that I was unclear about.

Like the video! Only comment I have for your video and others I've watched for this chapter is when you explore down into the sewer, you shouldn't land into the water. The light cast from the top floor grate is on the top of the sewer tile. So logically you should land there from the top floor.

      Thanks for the comment!
I believe flip spaces are connected to flip spaces on the reverse sides of tiles, though I don’t at the moment recall how explicit the rulebook is on this. Note that the flip space on the water has the fishhook icon, though. This means you can flip to the guardroom if and only if you have the fishhook and are on this exact space. This indicates to me throwing up a line and climbing to the grate overhead.
But Jerry would be the first one to tell you, “play it how you have the most enjoyment.” So if that’s what clicks for you, go for it!

@@plothos8380 I definitely see what you are saying about the flip icon in the water. I haven't played the game yet. I've just been watching some chapter 1 play throughs to get a better feel for the game so I can teach the rest of the family. I probably will play it by turning the sewer tile 180, land on the bottom of the tile in the lighted square, then enter and cross the water to the opposite side to exit the tile.

Great video so far! I played through chapter 1 and 2 and realize we did do a few wrongs. I do question the event that happens at 1:42:11. I play Colin myself in M&M and tried to use give order on my friend who was on an adjacent tile. (Just like you made happen.) However the card says Colin has to be on the same tile as a mouse too use the ability, hence why I question this.

Thank you for the comment. Note that “tile” and “space” are different. Tile refers to the whole map square (e.g. the entire courtyard map). So on the same tile is only a problem for the missions where the mice are split into different groups. So, Colin can’t use it to give Lily an attack in chapter two until he reaches the crystal tunnels tile.

@@plothos8380 Ofcourse! Thanks for the quick response, learned a lot from this for sure. Think we might restart our game realizing we just did too many wrongs. Left you a like and a sub! Greetings from Belgium!

Did you make this or did you download this somewhere? If it's somewhere out in the world wide web I'd love to get my hands on it!

Hey! I appreciate the interest. I did a lot of work on it and I'm pretty proud of it, but I'm unable to share it. I put it together using the free virtual tabletop program Maptool, but the framework I coded up isn't available anywhere.
There is a mod on Tabletop Simulator. It's probably not legal, but I didn't put it up, so I can tell you about it. :D

@36:10 - Wasn't the rat supposed to move to top of initiative since a new round began?

    • @plothos8380
      @plothos8380  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The rats move up upon completion of their turn, not at the end of the round, so he was moved up at about 31:56.
I am sure I forgot to do this many times over the course of the several playthroughs I have up here, but this one I got right, upon review. :) Thanks for checking!

Is it possible to get a copy of your digitized/maptool version of the game? I have to board game, but would like to play this with friends during this time of the pandemic. I've downloaded maptools, but since I haven't used it before, it appears there's quite a bit of a learning curve.

J Val - I offered to share the code with Plaid Hat (back when they owned M&M) and they declined, while affirming I am not to share, so I am legally unable to do so, I'm sorry to say. Even if I could, it would require using an older version of Maptool, which requires the old java 6, and then to play it you have to figure out port forwarding and a static IP, and it's ... yeah, it's a bit of work. I would be happy to discuss maptool with you and coach you on making at least a robust enough framework to play the game, but it would take some time. Alternatively, I know that Tabletop Simulator has at least one mod for M&M, last I checked. I didn't care for it all that much because there were too many fiddly bits, but it is at least a playable option. Each player would have to own TTS, though, at $20 a pop. You'd get scores of games for that, though, and not just M&M. Or you could get one copy and share a screen on zoom or something. There are ways to work it out. I'd be happy to discuss. But like I said, not allowed to share and it's not even compatible with current Maptool versions, and I've not converted it (mostly because I can't share).

@@plothos8380 Thank you for the response! Bummer that plaid hat wasn't interested - I think they really missed out on a great opportunity, especially considering the current situation. I've been messing around with maptool (latest version) trying to create it similar to how yours worked. It will take me a bit but I've created macros and have done enough coding that I think I'll be able to work through it. However, I do have a few questions related to organizing - some simple ones that hopefully won't take up much of your time. Would it be best to PM you? Or just post it here?
