I only just discovered this game a few days ago. I've been looking at more games from Fantasy Flight Games ever since I discovered their Lord of the Rings Lcg last year.
Sadly, as Wil seems to have found out, baiting He Who Is Not To Be Named can often bring unspeakable consequences. At our game table, we have adopted a house rule that strictly prohibits Hastur baiting during games.
He also has the downside that the Tabletop was so good people keep re-watching it. For every time he says the name. He gets 1 bad roll. So unfortunately, by re-watching this video. I am giving Will like 20 more bad rolls
" won't respond in character, because I don't do that sort of thing" ugh Bill Prady, it's a game and you're with Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day, fun some fun, man!!
01:05 PLZ TELL ME WHAT IS THE MUSIC HERE! I JUST NEED TO KNOW THE NAME OF THE MUSIC?!??! ALSO CAN YOU TELL THE NAME OF THE MUSIC IN THE INTRO?!??!? GUYS GUYS AND EVERYBODY PLZPLZPLZPZL!
Lilith Le Fay do you have expansions for it? The game really starts coming into it's own once you add the expansions. Kind of a bummer as far as cash goes, but who knows? You might have money.
Yeah. Her eyes have a mysteriously innocent yet mischievous sparkle. The swan is in her movement, and the morning in her smile. All the roses in the garden do bow and ask her pardon, for not one can match her charms.
My boyfriend and I just played this last night and it was really really fun!! And it was such a close game but we won!! Thank you Tabletop for always alway coming through with awesome games.
Wait, they didn't win, because he needed 8 + 1 (mythos). Am I right in thinking this? Edit: After reading through the comments, I retract my statement, as the mythos card should have changed by his turn, they just didn't address this in the episode.
I don't know, throughout they kept switching back and forth on the extra investigation point. Kept saying only need 5 or 8 when that's what is said on the card, despite the mythos card.
Yeah. After re-watching it, Bill was just not feeling it. lol maybe was like: oh. Felicia day. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. lol I don't think he had to say yes, though I haven't a fucking clue how the channel worked.
I like the little chuckle Mike Morhaime does at the end at the mention of "our show has such a low budget". The money that guy makes in a single day off his net worth would fund this show for a long time (or at least buy a shitload of bad ass trophies to give away).
Last night, at my local gaming club, we saw that the club had a copy of Elder Sign. I knew we had a copy, but I never tried to play it before since, looking similar to Eldrich Horror, I wanted someone else to explain the rules to me. Remembering this episode, I thought I could remember and explain the rules so me and a group of friends could play. I mentioned this and we started. While I overestimated my memory, we got over the hiccups and the game was awesome! We kicked the crap of Ithagua...or whatever his name was. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for putting this content out because it helps expose me and my friends to new and fun games to play! Also, this might be an odd thing to mention, but, that same night, someone brought out a cool game they had bought: Tragedy Looper. It was also pretty awesome. Did a cool job of making a legit murder mystery in board game form. Just throwing that out there.
C4RP3T Gaming Channel Aha me and my board-game friends play Arkham horror and Mansions of Madness a whole lot. I love them games. I hate though when we play Mansions, because I'm always left wanting more!
One noticeable rules violation: when Felicia assisted Wil on his failed roll, he focused *and* she assisted at the same time after the one failed roll. From the rule book: "Note: After each failed roll, a player may either focus or request assistance; he cannot do both."
Next on Tabletop: James Rolfe, Mike Matei, Tom Vasel & Sam Healey! Oh, & Zee Garcia if you can fit him because he is equally as awesome! Which game? Arkham Horror, Pillars of the Earth, etc!
How on earth do you get these guests to come on to your show, Wil? I'm rationing Tabletop to one a week and this one really gave me a Geekasm. This episode's cast makes my life complete!
um... question. Wasn't the 'need an extra investigation' thingy still in play? so Bill would have needed one MORE investigation? or did the clock advance and we not know about it? also, the first time I watched, at 12:13, my internet died and the last thing I saw was Wil saying girl power, staring right into the camera. Perfect timing.
I noticed that too. I saw the same thing and knew they were at a loss. + I believe earlier when the guy was rolling for 10 scrolls he had the ability to add +1 scroll which he ended up forgetting to use? Unsure about that though.
I don't know, however as we know these episodes are HEAVILY cut down from a two to three hour gaming session to a 30-35 minute episode with roughly 25-30 minute gameplay time. This usually means we see the 'best of' bits. It is quite possible that an entire round passed without us knowing. Personally I'd love it if TableTop throughout the season released extended editions of most of the episode from their previous season. While watching a full 'directors cut' episode of TableTop can be a long ordeal, it is also very interesting and you get a better look at how the game plays.
Hannes Van Wassenhove He could only increase them up to 3, so his ability didn't help. Also, the clock advances 3 hours per turn and 5 turns had passed, so midnight had passed again by the last turn.
Hey wait a second they didn't win because he actually needed a 9 not an 8. They lost because they still had that mythos thing with the extra investigation dice.
+Zilla Fella Actually, that was introduced before Wil's turn, the round before. If the clock rolls around and always strikes Midnight before Wil's turn, then it would have changed and the old event card would have been obsolete, making their win legitimate.
@@tawnyclawx From the game play I got the impression that the clock only ticks once per full turn around the table. They are sure messing those things up with the editing. Then again, you do not watch this to learn the rules or strategy (too many misplays for that, plus confusing editing) but to get a feel for how the game is to play.
30:50, after Amanda dies there should be additional doom token. One for her death and one as the adventure penalty. In addition, she losses all her stuff and trophies and takes a brand new hero.
ImTheSecretSquare Yea, I agree. Normally all their guests really get into the game and have fun, while these two are more acting confused and like, "what is fun?"
+Zaelek1776 Well one makes a sitcom and the other one of the worlds most famous games. Or not him alone, but he is leading the company that makes it. They should be clever and smart people with some humor. But they look like they are uncomfortable there. And the camera sure focus alot of the middle two. I belive having either one switched with the two at the end would have created a much better blend and forced the other two into wills and felicias shennanigans
Ha, Will couldn't beat the easy version of the 'Public Lavatory", that card was supposed to have two monster tokens placed on it they didn't read it correctly.
I adore Felicia Day (especially her time on "Supernatural"). I would SO love her to play Batwoman in a movie or hell even a TV appearance or ANYTHING. I would even take an animated feature but it would be better if it were live action.
I think i remember him saying in a video that the game is takes so long that getting 4 people to come in and play and record it that he won't be doing it. I mean it is a long game and doing the recording and the editing it would be too much I think. I think he did elder sign because it's kinda like AH but plays shorter.
This video helped my wife and I get through Elder Signs for the first time on #tabletop day, thank you! I'm sure we'll figure it out before you get to it, but having one on Arkham Horror would be nice.
only if the current mythos effect "...tasks requires that at least 1 investigation requires an additional investigation..." wasn't on the board then yes it would had been perfect. 27:01
I don't know what everyone else is talking about, I think Bill Prady is absolutely hilarious! I guess you guys aren't used to his style of excessively dry sarcasm
+Thomas Jensen the only way this makes sense is if he had already used his +1 investigation earlier that day. Hopefully that's what happened and for whatever reason they just forgot to mention it in the commentary.
Was there a new mythos card at the end that we didn't see, or did Bill actually need 1 more investigation to win? Haven't played this myself but it looks fun. Trying to decide whether to get this or Eldritch Horror.
I was thinking exactly this, and furthermore that Mike could have added an extra investigation (his character ability) on his last turn to reach the 10 - which otherwise would have been impossible for any other character.
Marcus Östgård Mike can only add investigation up to the maximum on that die, which for green would be 3., The clock hits midnight after every 4 turns, which basically means in a 4 player Elder Sign game it should be one go around the board, so the Mythos Effect should have changed before it hit Bill's winning turn. I have Elder Signs Omens on my phone and it is arguably the game I go back to more than others because of how different it can be each time.
I haven't played this but I can safely say that Eldritch Horror is amazing. I used to love Arkham Horror a lot but currently if I have a choice I will always grab Eldritch because the mechanics are just so much more fun. It is a pretty heavy game, but if you aren't afraid of spending potentially 3-4 hours on a game (depending on how many players, how much you go into the story and how much you spend thinking about the turns, you CAN get it to 2 hours) it's an awesome pick. My current favourite co-op game right now.
If you have gaming friends eldrich horror is a good choice, but if you're like me with little friends that playing boardgames I think elder sign is the best way to introduce them.
4:20 Saying you don't believe in superstitions in this game is like being an atheist in the Forgotten Realms among other places. It's just living in denial.
I play a lot of wargames and tabletop games that require dice rolls, and I have to tell you, I'm true believer in the power of the dice. Playing as many games as I do you learn to respect them.
There are sort-of-atheists in the Forgotten Realms (see Mask of the Betrayer). In that case it just means that they don't believe that the gods are any more special than any other powerful creature. In this game, and many fantasy types of things there can still be people who can be skeptical about certain things. Just because they see some supernatural elements it doesn't mean that they have to believe in all superstitions. Hermione in Harry Potter didn't believe in divination, for example. Anyway, I'm sure it was out of character.
I *canNOT* agree with you more strongly. I sent Wil an email to that effect (I think it may have been on the day you posted), but who knows? Got his address from another episode.
Well, at 31:19 he did role a 3, but didn't focus it. If he did he would have won even with the mythos curse thing. So, I still believe he won it for them. :D
Danielle Kreeger Small point: You can only focus a die after you fail to complete a task. Because he completed the 2 skulls, he's not allowed focus. He could have spell locked it, though, so same thing different method.
I find it so funny that Mike is just sitting there playing a board game, hes a billionaire who could afford to do anything he wanted and he chose this. Awesome.
So Wil said they lose if Hastur wakes up, so if its automatically lose the game then why does Hastur have stats you can roll against or mechanics for attacking?
+Intoxicated Meta Well, some people play the game where you can try to battle the Elder Gods if they wake up, but Wil & co. played by the "If they wake up, you die." rules. House rules, yo.
trebacca9 lol you say you aren't superstitious but you don't say a random non existent beings name. I'll make sure to say it every day for the rest of my life. You gullible sheeple
MurrayTheMac well the mythos cards are a big part of the game so yeah it kinda did. not saying its a bad video just my opinion feel free to like it all you want I won't stop you or complain more than that.
Man, 10 years. It's crazy to revisit this series.
Seriously, they have trapped in this series since I was in elementary school, and now I'm turning adult! Cool

I only just discovered this game a few days ago. I've been looking at more games from Fantasy Flight Games ever since I discovered their Lord of the Rings Lcg last year.
So that's when Wil got his dice curse!
LOL and just curses
Me cringing at 4:30
Yeah i guess Hastor cursed him all those years ago!
"I see this game ending one of two ways: us winning or us possibly losing."
That was so insightful.
lol, you must be great at game night.
Wil and Felicia pulled the charismatic weight for this episode. Good on them.
Michael Ames Seriously. The two old guys were sucking the joy out of the room. Wil and Felicia really had to pick up the slack.
Yeah I’m actually really bothered that one of them is tied to a comedy show yet has the personality of wet cardboard.

Playing it tonight. Needed a refresher.
"Tentacles do not need to be naughty, do they?"
what is that song that plays during intermisions? its so catchy, the tum tum song
what the riff ? im sure its not a song ..., your a beast
did you ever think about advertisting as a career
I was wondering that too! I've been watching a lot of these recently and I have that music in my head constantly.
Sounds familiar to someone from Diablo 3...
Oh Will 🤣 lmao! I also want that kind of friends/gaming pt
2020, can we bring this series back yet? lol -.-''
I *canNOT* agree with you more strongly. I sent Wil an email to that effect (I think it may have been on the day you posted), but who knows? Got his address from another episode.
@@jean-paulaudette9246 yeah but without will
@@dicedoom7162 I won't say he's irreplaceable, but it sure wouldn't be the same without him.
Tentacles. That's what Felicia said.
Wait, didnt they lose ?? the card on the table said +1 Investigation....8 + 1 from the card is 9 and they only managed to get 8, or am i wrong ?
Agreed
They did lots of time-skipping. The mythos card probably switched by then.
I'm glad I'm not the only one anal enough to notice that.
Thanks for this game!
I find it so funny that Mike is just sitting there playing a board game, hes a billionaire who could afford to do anything he wanted and he chose this. Awesome.
Well it was probably that or boring meetings.
Felicia is s so adorable
So Wil said they lose if Hastur wakes up, so if its automatically lose the game then why does Hastur have stats you can roll against or mechanics for attacking?
+Intoxicated Meta Well, some people play the game where you can try to battle the Elder Gods if they wake up, but Wil & co. played by the "If they wake up, you die." rules. House rules, yo.
Aw ok. Cool. Makes sense.
While the guests may not have been the most fun, this game actually looked pretty awesome! I'll have to pick it up
I would have killed to be able to say BOOB POWER to Filesha Day, and receive a high five.
didn't they have to roll an extra investigation on that last turn and by that logic lose the game ? or did the mythos effect change by then ?
yes
Look, Wil, I know the Cthulhu mythos is just mythos, but still... Going around saying THAT name all the time is just asking for ill fortune.
There's a reason he's the unspeakable one.
I try not to be superstitious, but some things you just don't risk messing with.
trebacca9 yeah that's my outlook, it may not be real...but I'm not willing to risk it
trebacca9 lol you say you aren't superstitious but you don't say a random non existent beings name. I'll make sure to say it every day for the rest of my life. You gullible sheeple
DiViNEReject you're a fucking downer.
Amanda is my favorite character. Her ability is so powerful.
Wow, I forgot how much smoother the original intro animation was...
Andris Stafeckis funny you should say WoW...
+Andris Stafeckis
It's so much better, right?
i only watch these for felicia day. and sometimes will.
I would have liked this if the actually Showed the mythos cards that came at midnight.
Your entire enjoyment was spoilt by that ...?
MurrayTheMac well the mythos cards are a big part of the game so yeah it kinda did. not saying its a bad video just my opinion feel free to like it all you want I won't stop you or complain more than that.
I feel ya; it such a dramatic part of the game.
Ha. Well now I'm obligated to purchase the game, because you guys make it awesome.
So can someone link me to all the Felicia + Tentacle gifs that were spawned from this episode? I need them for...research.
NessOnett8 there was nothing interesting
but... you forgot the extra magnifying glass for two "sucessful" missions... you should have lost
A Series of Unfortunate Dice Rolls: The Wil Wheaton Story
I loved this episode! I now HAVE to buy this game!
