    I love IndyCar more than any other type of racing besides our karts. And since Kenny Bräck had his accident at Texas I've been trying to figure out how to keep them safe without changing the cars.

    • @A1Pariah
      @A1Pariah 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harper14Racing aside from adding cockpit protection, there isn’t a whole lot of room for major improvements to the cars in terms of safety. I’m sure there are things, but the tracks on the other hand, definitely need improving.
      They need to find a way to keep the cars contained within the track, whilst not subjecting the cars to rapid deceleration (ie: car hitting a fence post), yet not drastically obstructing spectators view.
      Not an easy feat!

    • @Alex_Mac_

      This looks like Mike Conway's crash. This isn't near big enough to be Wheldon's crash and he didn't go in upside down. Let's not throw crashes around loosely.

    • @michellewhitfield9309

    • @seamusgriffey8738
      @seamusgriffey8738 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mike Hergenroether they can't use the halo on ovals. They block the drivers vision on even the slightest banking. The should have a military grade ballistic windscreen ready for 19. It's been tested on the cars and there has been no vertigo reported like Vetal did in the F1 version.

  • @Harper14Racing

    A tighter, smaller mesh fence? Make them smaller and tighter so they don't give away as much!
    That's my thinking as of now and since the accident.
    Make the fence as tight as possible with the ram jacks and tools we have now days to help the blow of hitting the loose fence and hitting the poles of the fencing.

    • @Alex_Mac_
      @Alex_Mac_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harper14Racing I follow racing conversation closely on a number of forums, and this is the first time I've heard this idea. It's not bad. Idk how much they'd be willing or able to do it in front of grand stands but it should be experimented with. I mean look at baseball right now. They've expanded safety netting further down the foul line and in doing so they're spinning the strands tighter so the mesh is thinner and they can use less spacing without hurting visibility. We need to look into that using higher strength fibers and metals or something along the lines, to do what you just said. I don't know that that avenue has ever been discussed, and it would certainly be cheaper than using opticor, which would work but is impossible on cost alone.

    • @A1Pariah
      @A1Pariah 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking of something along these lines as well. In downhill skiing they changed their ‘catch fence’ to smaller holed fencing and it has improved safety in the sense that the skier is not subjected to deceleration as much. I believe something similar could be adopted by motorsport.

    • @NealB123
      @NealB123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A flexible fence design that doesn't need rigid support poles to hold it up. It was the fence pole which shredded the car and sent it spinning back onto the track.

    • @A1Pariah
      @A1Pariah 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neal B for sure. If they threw enough money at this someone would find a solution.

      Nathancsx 755 after F1 and WEC indycars are the most technologically advanced race cars in the world and were lapping Pocono around 40-50 mph faster than the Cup cars. So of course they are more dangerous.
      Just think of how many laps down the leading cup car would be if an Indycar raced against a NASCAR field.
