You're doing a great job, buddy. It's kinda lame have to search everything for your own, but you came and resumes everything. A praise for you.
I actually dreamt about this song last night. I dreamt that they played the clip on a BBC radio station and asked listeners to phone in if they recognised it. An old man phoned in and said he had heard it during the first world war. I thought to myself, there's no way the song is that old. The man named the song he thought it was. By some miracle the radio station had it, despite it being over 100 years old, they played it, and it wasn't EKT. The old man said sorry for wasting their time and it must be his poor memory. Of course this isn't revelant to the search for this song in the real world, but I thought it might be entertaining.
I highly doubt Carl faked the external noises in the snippet, not only because it would’ve been really complicated to think about, but you have to keep in mind that at some point during his initial interactions with the post, he mentioned to someone that he “didn’t think this would be such an obscure song”
I'm french and I was SHOCKED to finally hear about this lost media on french TV !! That's exactly what we need. Attention. And TV can definitely bring us that

I really want this lead to be looked into. My mom said she knows EKT whenever she hears it, whether low or high quality, because it used to play on VOCM radio Gander when she grew up in the 80s and 90s. She said “it used to play on VOCM like, 50 times a day” Edit: VOCM replied and confirmed they do not have it

I’ve been thrift shopping multiple times in the past, and I haven’t thought once about purchasing a cassette until I found out about this song a few months ago. Maybe thrift store cassette tapes will lead us somewhere promising with this search…
Nah. I legit do the same and just made a comment about it as well. I find records and 45s. And I wonder if I'll ever come across an EKT record and not know it's the song bc we dk the real name or singer
The song itself also seems to be a well/expensively produced one for the 80's, the linn drum stuff, ochestra hits, synths, bass guitar, electric guitar, etc.I think thats the hardest to replicate these days, that sort of sound. I honestly believe carl did just record the song and forgot or something else happened that got the song on said disc. Also the instruments being identifiable means carl92 would have either put alot of money (which, lets be honest, would be pretty unreasonable) into making a hoax, or like i said above, it was actually just a expensively produced song that just somehow slipped through the cracks and was forgotten, or he could've used samples, but im 99% sure the song would sound majorly different if carl would've created it with samples. This also immediately shoot down the song being even remotely AI created.
This is absolutely correct. I keep saying: it’s almost like the wind on nature here. There was probably a studio in a communist country where this song was recorded. This is not a home recording.
It would be interesting if it turned out it was originally a commercial exclusive song with no originally planned full version, because I could very well see this turning into a situation like the how a few years back when the Motorola Razor was being advertised they had a short song created by Pigeon John(They don’t make ‘em like me) and people loved that short song so much(along with a lot of people asking where the full version was/make a full version) that eventually Pigeon John DID make a full version of “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like Me”. If Everyone Knows That was a commercial song and we do find out who originally sang it perhaps we could ask the original artist to create a full version of the song(and if it’s an obscure artist, maybe we could help them get the recognition they deserve and revitalize their career). Honestly that’s the most hopeful outcome if it does turn out that EKT was a commercial song, let’s hope that it was a full song though
I'm from Spain and I'm going to try and reach some news networks to see if they can cover this. I hope they do since the song is apparently from here and maybe there's someone watching the national news that know the song.
Yo, while I was reading this, I suddenly remembered a song that had kind of a similar rythm to EKT, and im being serious, they COULD possibly be from the same artists, it just so weird it came out of nowhere, I'll make an update here, if I find something, I'll try to post it in Reddit
I seriously think this is an actual song. It doesn't sounds like it starts there, is much more like the second half of the first verse. And the last sentence "Every move shows that" clearly sounds like they were about to say something more.
I dunno... "Is This Love - DaYeene" was thought to be an internet PSA with no full version, (and was also thought to be AI like EKT) yet it was found. Thooooough you may be right that there is no extended version, in that case it would good to just find out who made it so that they can make a full version, or just find a HQ version of the 17 second clippet.
Yesss! Progress! Observing the lostwave/ lost media community is just such a spectacular experience. The way people are so determined to dig up things that have been lost to time is heartwarming and makes me realize that a lot of humans are much better than we realize. If we don't give up, we might be even closer to finding Like the Wind. We already found Fond My Mind, what's stopping us from going even higher and achieving a goal we've been trying to for years?
you can hear what i thought to be a windows error message in the background before "tell me the truth" and mid word, for some reason i here also this weird "meep" noise between the same part of the song, where it has a high pitch noise sounding as if it was someone saying meep. but its really quiet.
I have to admit when I first heard EKT on a video about lost songs I immediately thought "that's a car advert". The music on adverts back in the 80s 90s and even before that seemed to have no relevance to the item being advertised but were just a catchy jingle that you barely noticed. For example, recently in the UK a BT advert featured an instrumental that loads of people started looking for. On that occasion it turned out to be a short piece written specifically for the advert by a company who does that sort of work and there was no long version of it. Having said all that, with the current amount of fakery that goes on out there with images and videos why not with music too?
This could potentially spark up a lot of people to try to research it which could eventually let us get access to it,for the members of lost media community, please try to spread this song to other countries if possible. Every, decision, matters.
I have a theory about the whereabouts of "EKT", using the page "BMI", in which you search for the name of a song and it gives you information about its authors (I searched for Ulterior Motives), and I find the names "Ross Mark Stephen" and "Pefrey Danny Curtis", then researching about them I find that they are composers from the Marvel MCU, but when I search for their names next to Ulterior Motives I can't find any results, which is weird considering how big Marvel is, which makes me theorize that "EKT" is an outcast song from the MCU that was recorded but never released, and a Marvel worker would leak it in Watzatsong as a joke.
If this is from a commercial, why don't we hear any overplaced voice or something. And are you gonna tell me that Carl92 started recording this when the commercial barely showed up on TV, like he knew it would appear?
I think it was made for a mattress company I the late-80s to early-90s mainly because of the lyric "Counting all the sheep in the sky, Living in a world of lies" and counting sheep is used to help get people to sleep stereotypically...
Bro I've been apart of the search looking for this song since like June, I've slowly over the past few months kinda dropping the search, but these videos that you've been making about EKT and it being on the news brought me right back into the search, I can't wait for my videos, keep it up, I subscribed!
Imagine posting an obscue soundclip that you found on the internet and then suddenly you have people all over the world and news outlets talking about it.
I dont know if this helps: EKT was in a German Radio Show named "Musik für junge Leute" (Engl. "Music for Young people"). The Host of the show has (in a German News article) confirmed the Song was played between 1987 and 1989. He can't remember the Name sadly. There's a German Radio Station that is called "Antenne Bayern"(Engl. "Antenna Bavaria") and offen in Special days plays old music. It could be a lead. Also the Song Sound very similar to "Tell it to my hart". I guess this recording was recorded with Something Like "Windows Sound Recorder" wich has some Sound editing Options. Would be interesting to try some of the out in Reverse to See If IT Cleares Up the audio.
I found a post from a few months ago of someone saying they also heard it in Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada when they were a kid. They gave radio stations to contact and everything. Sadly, the forum has been quiet since someone said they contacted the stations and were awaiting an answer.
Yea, I could maybe buy the ad angle. If you speed it up, it does sound a bit like an 80s advertising jingle; reminds me of the Menthos one. The tempo, the few stretched syllables to keep time.. Would be an odd song choice for an ad tho.
I just want to point something out: they are several leads of EKT being a tv comercial song, and I stongly agree for two reasons: In the original post, Karl said he was probably learning how to campture sound, so a tv comercial woud be a good way to do that. Secondly, it woud explain why only a small part of the song is recorded: there is no other part. Also, putting it in a movie and then seeing if anybody sues the company for copyright woud be a funny way of getting the song.
it might be possible that EKT's origins are from a source that has been purposefully withheld on the internet. As it could've possibly originated from a shock video
If you didn’t know, there have been a for rumours floating around about the composer’s name being “Robert Linn” but there is not much evidence to back this up.
your series motivated me to upload my AI extended version of EKT, let's say I used a different method than most people use so it's not a complete AI mess xd
Can someone in france confirm that that commercial exists Edit: another thing I think it could be is the start of a 90s video game. I think it's from a "guess that song" video game. I think that's why the lyrics of EKT says "everyone knows that" and "tell me the tune"
I do not believe this short snippet is the only part. Carl would have to have known the song would have came on, and when to have cut off the recording, which doesnt make sense if hes eating chips in the backround (unless he just recorded the song and trimmed it down), which I do not believe to be the case, as if he opened the audio file, he should have remembered himself putting it into a program and specifically cutting the song out if he liked it so much, or just anything more specific than it being familiar
The interesting thing is that the singer could be still alive to this day and he has no idea it’s him singing cause he forgot about it already, or just has no clue this mystery is circulating on the internet. Other theory is that he might have passed away and we’ll never gonna hear anything from this artist ever.
At least Stateside, the song was likely just used as a snippet in a commercial, according to my uncle. He says he knew it when I played the snippet for him a few weeks ago, but he couldn’t remember the name. As for the era (pardon me if I'm backtracking, but it’s 01:50 almost where I'm at), I’m willing to say that it was likely an early ‘80s piece with influence from the ‘70s, or just flat-out ‘70s (does not sound like ‘90s music to me), though that’s mostly coming from the era of western music I listen to. I tried to pick it out on my piano and found that (supposedly), it’s written in E♭ major. Again, I didn’t spend very much time on it due to constraints and some other obligations, but I do intend to see what else I can find about it when I sit back down to play.
I’d Like to point something out: The song ends abruptly during the chorus, And this is most likely obvious, but the Words “Ulterior Motives” probably goes again.
I like what the last commenter was touching upon, it could be tied to a product being sold on TV. However, I don’t see why it would be logical to sell a product with the background music singing about someone deceitful. I think this theory should be disregarded, and instead it could have been aired on international music playing channels, on a radio, etc etc. This is definitely common knowledge though, I’m just giving my 2 cents
Imagine how exciting it will be if this and that encarnacion Bechaves commercial is found. Honestly I don't think we will even see the encarnacion Bechaves commercial because it's probably already not anywhere
The song was in Rolling Stone magazine. Just to reiterate about the “ad” idea- You’re also asking for a lot of coincidences here. Here’s a challenge. Find me any ad where you get 17 seconds of only music with no voice over. It doesn’t logically make sense than the OP hit record and got only music from a 30 second commercial. I mean do you really think the song starts in the middle of a verse? I don’t know why anybody would believe this was an ad. It would have been a miracle to get 17 seconds of only music.
I feel like it’s gonna be hard to find but will eventually be found because in the last video you said that it is a song with an English chorus but not in English so it could be out there somewhere in another language . It could take months years or maybe even decades or more.
if this news goes to a lot of people, someone that doesn't know about the search will definitely remember the song and find it on a cd somewhere. we just need to get bigger news channels to broadcast this information
Has no one ever thought that it might have been a song made by a unknown band that was never released and just kept on a cd that Carl92 somehow obtained and all the people in the band have already died or Carl92 could have made the song himself and just trolled us all
Even if it there isn’t a full version of the song and it was only made for advertisement, then the question rises: what happened to the advertisement? The product? What were they advertising? Where did the advertisement air? Did anyone buy the product? Did anyone even pay attention to the advertisement? What was the company that made the advertisement? What were they even selling in the first place? And if it was an advertisement, then how did Carl92 even play it from the speaker/cd? It just raises more questions. It’s most likely not an advertisement, in my opinion though.
I'm only 2 minutes into the video but THIS is what I was just talking about a few weeks ago!!! I was saying how the only way for EKT to rlly be found is for a news channel to broadcast it so that it can become more known to more people, AND I GUESS MY DREAM CAME TRUE! This is HUGE!!! Even if it was in france, IT'S STILL A NEWS BROADCAST! If this becomes viral HOPEFULLY we'll find the song in no time :).
As an audio engineer, I must say yes, this can indeed be faked, intentionally adding extraneous noise, BUT I do not believe it was. I agree with the notion it is from TV, but itself recorded from videotape on slow record speed (SLP), suggested by the low quality. The re-record quality much better or it would not have picked up the NTSC sync tone.

If you didn’t know, there have been a for rumours floating around about the composer’s name being “Robert Linn” but there is not much evidence to back this up.
not sure if its a chip he was eating. it might be a RCA cable being moved. In bad condition they can make some light distortion in video and audio
your series motivated me to upload my AI extended version of EKT, let's say I used a different method than most people use so it's not a complete AI mess xd
I'll check it out!
If only people cared for LaCanciònDeAlicia like that
everyone seems so content with the recreation tho! It was so perfect that everyone gave up looking for the original...
It's time will come.
Ikr, it's probably my favorite Lostwave song and it's a shame that people are forgetting about it because of the cover/recreation :(
Just imagine because it's probably only on CDs that someone has that CD, you go to listen and you're like OMG IT'S ETK and they're like what's etk
We haven't finished this one yet, but there's another lostwave out there called "Digital Girl." I wish someone makes a deep dive to it...
O_o
even if there is no full/extended version i still want to know where the hell this song came from
i lived in france and but i didn't know that it was broadcast on TF1
Could be a demo for stock music
omg im gonna go insane
Poor Carl's going into hiding after this lol 😆
😂😂
I find it so funny and ironic how the song is called 'everyone knows that' (i think) and yet, nobody knows the real song
Can someone in france confirm that that commercial exists
Edit: another thing I think it could be is the start of a 90s video game. I think it's from a "guess that song" video game. I think that's why the lyrics of EKT says "everyone knows that" and "tell me the tune"
Plot twist: Carl92 actually made the EKT but he wanted to prank us by recording it in a bad quality and publishing it on Watzatsong
Imo it has to be a song from trash mad by clare grogan, the voice sounds really similar
I think even Beatles' 'Carnival Of Light' Will Be found and this song Will Be lost. But i hope both are going to be published
Carnival of Light is not lost.
It’s unreleased. They very well know where it is
If '92 is his DOB, how does it work that he was playing around with recording equipment in the '90s?
we don't even know if that is his date of birth, for all we know that could be some insignificant number
Maybe something happened in 1992 that’s why he has 92 as his number. Carl1992.
The interesting thing is that the singer could be still alive to this day and he has no idea it’s him singing cause he forgot about it already, or just has no clue this mystery is circulating on the internet.
Other theory is that he might have passed away and we’ll never gonna hear anything from this artist ever.
Yep, that's why we need to make this search WORLDWIDE 🌎
We are gonna get gta6 before EKT gets found 😭
I know this isn't going to be helpful whastoever, but for some reason, the music reminded me of, "Super Why!"
I feel like a pawn store would have the disc of everyone knows that, this is just my guess.
lesgo we got more people on board for EKT!
The crunch sound is the 8 track tape clunk sound or the sound a worn tape would make
Omg I'm so excited
I’d Like to point something out: The song ends abruptly during the chorus, And this is most likely obvious, but the Words “Ulterior Motives” probably goes again.
YES, I've been waiting for something like this to happen
I like what the last commenter was touching upon, it could be tied to a product being sold on TV. However, I don’t see why it would be logical to sell a product with the background music singing about someone deceitful. I think this theory should be disregarded, and instead it could have been aired on international music playing channels, on a radio, etc etc. This is definitely common knowledge though, I’m just giving my 2 cents
Yehhhh, someone had a good point... You don't hear any voice overs or "PICK UP YOURS TODAY AND GET 2 FOR THE PRICE OF 1" type stuff...
Imagine how exciting it will be if this and that encarnacion Bechaves commercial is found. Honestly I don't think we will even see the encarnacion Bechaves commercial because it's probably already not anywhere
“shows how far we’ve come on our search” yeahhhh, not really 😅 still great news that it made it on tv though.
The song was in Rolling Stone magazine.
Just to reiterate about the “ad” idea-
You’re also asking for a lot of coincidences here.
BRO IM FRENCH I DID NOT KNOW THAT
😭😭
LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!!
Aaaand the song was found in a adult film...
I honestly think Carl92 just picked up some random recording from someone who was ironically talented even tho just being some random bystander
We did it guys, more people know.
if this news goes to a lot of people, someone that doesn't know about the search will definitely remember the song and find it on a cd somewhere. we just need to get bigger news channels to broadcast this information
theres no way it was fake, like what would it do for him
Has no one ever thought that it might have been a song made by a unknown band that was never released and just kept on a cd that Carl92 somehow obtained and all the people in the band have already died or Carl92 could have made the song himself and just trolled us all
IVE HEARD IS SO MANY TIMES THAT IT LITERALLY SOUNDS EDITED IN
DJs.....you kneed DJs to see if the can place the song like the Professor of Rock here on TH-cam
Yay! I'm so glad (and probably the whole EKT-centered community), that we made it to the news!
If this becomes viral HOPEFULLY we'll find the song in no time :).
we are definitely on the right tracks! We just gotta get it on some more news channels, so it can be heard by the world...
@@ybxrds yeah! I think emailing the huge news stations would be a big help.
IM HYPERVENTILATING RN THATS CRAZY IM SO ECSTATIC 🎉🎉
Let's gooooo
What if the song was from one of those scenes on TV or in a movie where they're playing a fake song on a radio in the scene?
Maybe the French news covered this song in a broadcast because it was made somewhere nearby
(I have too many theories)
Maybe it WAS the French news 👀
@@ybxrds 🤯🤯🤯
As an audio engineer,
I must say yes, this can indeed be faked, intentionally adding extraneous noise,
BUT I do not believe it was.
I agree with the notion it is from TV, but itself recorded from videotape on slow record speed (SLP),
suggested by the low quality.
The re-record quality much better or it would not have picked up the NTSC sync tone.
yes
yes
yes
yes
Everyone is talking about an NTSC pilot signal they found. But Spain is a PAL region, so maybe the interpretation is wrong?
