This is probably overly dramatic, but it’s actually also pretty accurate. I don’t doubt that sending a high-tech pretty chunky looking drone into the tail blade of a helicopter could cause it to crash like that and the damage they can do in a highly populated area is pretty devastating. I mean just look at the damage you geese can do to airplanes.
still lives up one of best scenes :). i remember the behind the scenes, where they had to tape up the front of helicopter with matching coloured tape as the scene hitting the ambulance. went wrong first time.
the loss of a tail rotor will not induce a crash, simply pitching forward and lowing the cyclic will stop the spin but moving forward the airflow over the tail stops the spin.
@@DashDriver-z1r Technically correct but only if the main rotor fails, The tail rotor stops the counterspin, it's why cyclic down will reduce the spin as the blade pitch does what the tail would do, Cyclic up would cause spin as the blades change pitch. The best way to land with no tail is to pitch forward and gain speed which allows it to move with no spin, then while moving forward gain height, enough height so that when you eventually decide to land the spin is countered by the dropping of the height.

I know it's all fiction, but that's why children must only fly drones under adult supervision, and all drone pilots, whether children or adults, should keep the drone where they can see it at all times during flight and not operate it where there are low flying aircraft.
and watch out for Aliens, too. Cuz more people have been taken by aliens, than aircraft brought down by drones. Next weeks episode: Man spontaneously combusts due to Covid!
You can in theory actually land a helicopter if the tail rotors is destroyed or otherwise incapable of providing the anti torque force. you just need to shut the engines or declutch them from the power train. This way the torque won't be applied to the main rotor and you can glide to an autorotative landing. The thing is that this requires more or less instant response on the part of the pilot, and helicopters are much worse at autorotating than planes are at gliding and your range of options when selecting a crash landing site will be extremely limited, especially in a build-up area. It's a realistic but still quite miraculous outcome
