- Shining Cliff Wood, near Ambergate in Derbyshire is one of Mountain Biking's best kept secrets.
This area has plenty of trails to ride but this woods has a real plethora of different types of trail.
There is natural rooty, rocky & steep sections which are very technical and so much fun to pick your way down.
Then in an other part of the woods the trails are flowy with roller doubles and big and small jumps, drops, step downs etc.
The spot is really easy to find, but here is the full address.

Due to the recent influx of riders to the area, probably created by thses 'secret, but here's the address' type videos and national 'let's tidy places up' social media posts, most if the trails have been shut down by the FC.
Nice one. Great work..
That's not shining cliff, by the way, its further round.
Betty Kenny tree has also now been blown over thanks to the clear felling..
The line you say is steep, looks a lot steeper in person. As I went over the bars there
Nice vid mate .....Shame you had to advertise the woods ....we have enough problems with the forestry up there ,appreciate it if next time you come you don’t say where it is ... I’m sure you understand ....cheers mate 👍
Totally agree!
Another twerp, yes and it’s been ridden for years,30 years myself as a local .. because no one until recent times have advertised it.
Wont be long before it gets shut down or fences erected everywhere to stop the influx. So many newbie’s to mtb just don’t think, just out for there own popularity.
If ya want to advertise your day stick to ya trail centres , but wont be long before more of those get closed.
Think on!
No one till recent times? This vid is literally 5 years old and there’s loads of others about the place… sounds like a case of I’m local and I don’t want to share with outsiders
Good to see the gate repped, but again so sad to see the deforestation by the Forestry Commission in a vain attempt to stop mtb in the area, was such a beautiful woodland with some amazing trails that had been there for years!! Keep up the good work with the vids!!
Good video mate i’m going up there this week!
Great place, yeah better with boost off i think. Thanks for another good place i should visit soon.
Great place. Just round the corner from me
Another plank not realising that openly advertising places to ride brings too much attention to the area . Next thing its shut down.
This place brings back some memories for me, sad to see all the trees taken down though. Did you know there's a very small reservoir in those woods? Or at least there was last time I was there many years ago.
34gtrskyline1 yes I think I saw a pond/reservoir at the bottom of one of the trails. Near the timber mill

Is that place open or shut down now. We used to drive through the yard and park at the bottom of the hill until it reopened, then I heard it closed agsin and was abandoned.
34gtrskyline1 about a year ago when they felled the east side the machinery seemed to be taking the timber to that mill, maybe it’s a part time thing when they’re working the woods
This place is right on my doorstep, love it!
Well you won’t be loving it much longer if it keeps getting advertised, as if its some trail park. Its private land , not a bloody trail park.
