  • A brief list of some of my favourite Bortkiewicz moments
    Sergei Bortkiewicz; (1877-1952) was a Romantic composer and pianist.
    Bortkiewicz's piano style was very much based on Liszt and Chopin, nurtured by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, early Scriabin, Wagner and Ukrainian folklore.

    1:48- you can definitely hear the scriabin sonata no 4 come through in that inner voicing; written 23 years before the andantino
    You can also hear it come through in lyrica nova- interesting to see the inspiration the piece had on him

    11:47 the last piece. I almost thought Mahler's Titan was about to make his grand entry (symphony 1, mvt 4, around 18 mins depends on the conductor) but it was Rachmaninoff who came out indeed. It was very fun to listen to this and to read the comments here. Thanks for posting.

    Nice list, but I would like to suggest other performances for 33 / 7 and Piano Concerto No. 1 - Kyoungsun Park and Chihiro Ishioka respectively - which are on my channel. Especially for PC 1 it is much better than the most viewed version on TH-cam that has a lot of wrong notes so you should definitely check these out. I've also made a lot of videos on Bortkiewicz's Etudes and Preludes.

    That prelude is literally Scriabin 4 and then Chopin ballade 4 right after that.

    1. For Pf con no.1, best part is from start until 6.04 min
    2. 2nd mov of Pf sonata no.1 very very expensive
    3. 1st & 2nd symphonies are very good, almost perfect.
    4. Lyrical intermezzo for vln and orchestra 100% better than debussy prelude to the afternoon of a faun

      @@karrotkake Yes. Quoting so many great composers is the beginning of being original ? I don’t know… A few pieces are very good too great, but a lot of his works are too derivative.

      @Birbeniho 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mathieuberquet3988 His works are at the level of the composers he's inspired by. Yes, Scriabin is to be more respected for his ingenuity, but you wouldn't complain if you took an uber instead of a taxi. It's a derivative, but one that gets the job done imo. I still prefer Scriabin and Chopin btw

    There is a beautiful waltz in the fantasy pieces Op. 61 set, its called Sie tanzt, maybe you will like beacuse you used a lot of F#sharp major pieces quite a bit in the video hehe. Also, no 3rd concerto moments? The theme in the Andandrte (part 8) is just too good and addictive

    I just wanna say that there's a much better concerto nr.1 recording. It's title says "analysis" but it's the full concerto with the subtitles bellow analyzing it.

    Only agree with the 2nd concerto that can stand before the greatest....But you missed the Caprice op 3 n 1, the Prelude op 6 n 1, the Ballade op 10 n 1, the Etude op 15 n 6 and many more 😐😐

      Yes, I'll do Rach soon. Scriabin later, I need to listen to more of his work (never heard his symphonies, and I need to dig even deeper into his etudes, preludes and sonatas)

    I don’t like this composer. No individuality, just impersonation.
