I am a French Piano teacher, I can tell that Alexander Malofeev is one of the greatest pianists and musicians we ever saw in the world. He is amazing, so sensitive, intelligent, deeply understanding music, playing so clear like cristal, he made me cry ! An angel comes to play piano for us... Thank you Alexander !!!

When our Kristian Zimmerman was preparing for the Chopin's Festival he was practicing for 8 hours a day . He had to have a great talent to start with, but practice is needed to add fluency to the fingers. With a talent like this young boy the hours of practice are probably a pure joy to him and preferable way of spending his "free time" but still hats off to him for a preseverance in finding the perfect expression of this music.
I don't know about anybody else but every time I sit and watch this, not just listen to it as I go about my work, but actually sit and watch Alexander (and this entire young orchestra for that matter), I am just in AWE. What a treasure to have this uploaded on youtube.
This work Alexander plays requires being actively engaged…. seems to be the “Alexander Effect’, where one is stunned into silence and ‘Gob-Smacker’ awe. (Gob-smacked is a British saying which seems befitting)

Crying uncontrollably listening to this offering. I grew up with the emphasis on Rachmaninoff, and especially this concerto #2. It was the link between my parents and they loved this music with heart and soul. And though separations came between me and my family for other reasons, I can still honor them and love them, especially when I hear this God given music. Blessings to all. This is among the most difficult pieces in the canon. My senses can't reconcile with what I am hearing and seeing. It's true magic. Breathtaking!

А дальше, потекла прекрасная музыка Великого Мастера Сергея Рахманинова руками- нет, всем телом , всей душой такого юного, но уже зрелого Мастера - Александра Малофеева. Так мягко и так зрело, так неожиданно прочувствованный Вами, Сашенька, мой любимый концерт. Мне 58лет, но первый раз я слушала в полном умилении и понимании единой звуковой и душевной гармонии. Вы правильно поняли и передали нам замысел Великого композитора, искусно управляя оркестром вместе с дирижёром. ОГРОМНОЕ СПАСИБО. Пусть Господь поможет Вам приумножать этот талант, которым Он наградил Вас. Здоровья и терпения, радуйте нас Вашим исполнением прекрасной музыки. At this performance, he's 15 y.o. - already a concert pianist! - and plays with such beauty, such focus, insight, dynamics and such elegance -- so that other professionals are left speechless. Yet, this gifted Russian boy remains so humble, kind, appreciative. I, among many, have an immense admiration for this young accomplished performer. I pray for his health and his happiness as he travels the world sharing his love of the beloved music. May he stay close to the One who is greater than all.
And he's still going at 19! You can see him masked, playing Tchaikovsky.

Bloody hell....Rach 2 is my all time favorite piece. I've heard it 5000+ times from different various artists. I've never heard someone so young play this piece this well. I've played this piece as an adult and I can't imagine having the depth at 15 years old to understand this. This is amazing....I just happened upon this so now I'm going to have to follow this kid. (my current modern favorite performer for this piece is Anna Federova)

I appreciate the elegance of the phrasing, the perfect technique, the strong and delicate execution with feeling, but dosed without smudging and without any interpretative excess. The gesture of the hands on the keyboard is very correct and elegant. Phrasing above all others: as a great and mature interpreter. Great fairness and professionalism. At the end the very tender image of a very young little boy: and you cannot believe that this splendid performance comes from this child with such a fragile and delicate appearance. And then the encores, to remind you that the little child who smiles as if in disbelief is actually already a great pianist, an exceptional interpreter.

What an outstanding performance by everyone involved. I have huge respect for this very talented young man, I simply can not find the words. Rachmaninov did not compose music for amateurs but for those who have a serious love of music that can touch the soul. The amount of work this young man has put in to reach this point is staggering, it requires a dedication that only a few are willing to put in. His talent will shine for many years to come.

I realize what a lot of time and effort goes into his practice, from the little bit he says about it...he gives 150 per cent of himself for the enjoyment of other people. Это лучшее исполнение концерта, которое я слышала за свои 50 лет. Я музыкант.. Что называется "залезло под кожу" и до глубины души. Невероятное погружение...
Исполнение прекрасно! Энергия льётся из исполнителя, молодая энергия, не закалённая. Лёгкости много из-за возраста, желание глубину услышать...
Мне посчастливилось слышать запись исполнения этого концерта автором. Очень близко. Может быть сыграло роль, что запись имеет не очень чистый звук. Но с Рахманиновым пока никто не сравнится. И очень радует молодое поколение одаренных исполнителей. Прошу не судить строго. Я дилетант. От музыки очень далека. Но это произведение - шедевр. Первые аккорды и ....слезы градом

Александр, мне 68 лет я никогда не интересовалась классической музыкой и я не музыкант. Месяца 3-4 назад я мельком начала слушать Рахманинова 2 концерт. В вашем исполнении и не могла оторваться. Я переслушиваю его с разными оркестрами, в разные годы и только в вашем исполнении. Это чудо, волшебство, это ТАЙНА. Иногда я слушаю по два , три раза подряд. И всё, что вы исполняете и Моцарта и Чайковского и вчера услышала в первый раз Пуленка. В моей душе происходит очень важное и что то красивое . Спасибо Вам огромное. Сохраните этот дар . Я музыкант, мне 50 лет. Я знаю, что произведения Сергея Рахманинова исполнить кому-то практически невозможно, посему не все за это берутся. Должен сказать, что 2-й концерт для меня особенный. Я слышал его в исполнении многих великих пианистов, включая уважаемого мною Дениса Мацуева. Я узнал о Вас полтора месяца назад. И до того дня я искренне считал, что в исполнении Святослава Рихтера - это эталон. Но сейчас, услышав ТАК, КАК ЭТО ИСПОЛНИЛИ ВЫ, то просто понял, что ошибался. Знаете ли, банальная фраза наподобие "глоток свежего воздуха" не пойдет, это слишком мало для объяснения... Мало того, что Ваше исполнение безукоризненно, Вы привнесли своё видение Рахманинова и Вы, да, именно Вы управляли оркестром через свою игру и настроение. И просто непомерную энергетику, которая исходила от Вас (я видел, что творится с музыкантами оркеста и потом со зрителями в зале). И еще я заметил, что Вы можете впадать в некий транс: составить симбиоз с роялем, это, конечно, нечто..., видео многое проясняет. Не решался Вам написать комментарий всё это время, подбирал слова, обдумывал каждое. И сегодня снова (раз в 50-й наверное, не считал, честно) прослушав и посмотрев, теперь могу сказать Вам, Александр, господин музыкант: я восхищён! Если бы это услышал Сергей Васильевич, он, я уверен, поблагодарил Вас после концерта и осторожно пожал бы Вам руку. Вы совсем скоро станете великим пианистом, Вам еще только предстоит это. @@sofiabessonova2214 Да, слушала, замечательное историческое видео. У меня к тому же есть диск в великолепном исполнении китайского виртуоза Ланг Ланг. И я десятки раз в жизни прослушивала этот концерт Сергея Рахманинова... Но Александр Малофеев действительно на одном дыхании, безупречно и стихийно убедительно его исполнил. Первый раз узнала о его существовании вчера, через TH-cam. Очень, очень рада алгоритму, который подсказывает музыкальные исполнения! Замечательный, гениальный молодой пианист: дай Бог многих лет и здоровья, столько ведь еще впереди. И заключительное исполнение тоже великолепное. Всеми настоящими музыкантами трепетно дорожу, но Александр Малофеев действительно особенный, на редкость! Спасибо всем!

Радостно, что не умерла русская традиция классической музыки, которую продолжают молодые исполнители. Это здорово!

2nd Rach is played by most performers either as a demonstration of their schmaltzy sentimentality of as ,-again,- demonstration of their technical abilities. This kid achieved the impossible: He has unearthed the Music and the Meaning of this great concerto. Yes, he is a great virtuoso, yes, he makes us shed tears of pain and joy, but firts an foremost he is a real genius.
Rachmaninov composed this great concerto after recovery from a deep and awful depression and it is a hymn to the unconquerable human spirit. This is something possible to a small number of mature adults. How this kid was able convert his touching of black and white piano keys into a a Shakespearean story is beyond my understanding. He is a true Genius. That is unbelievable but true.

Wonderful heart rending piece which lifted it’s composer, Rachmaninov from the depths of despair reflected in the emotion in the music to a lasting fame appreciated through time. I love it so much, and for a pianist so young to play this concerto with such mature feeling and understanding is genius beyond imagination. Fabulous….
Insulting though to insert an advert during the performance though! Breaking the illusion! (they also did this at the build up to the climax of Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata in a studio performance by another favourite of mine, Valentina Lisitsa! Annoying to say the least! My piano teacher, may she rest in peace, always stressed expression. She would say the mechanics can be taught - the feeling can't. She was so right. This young man at the young age of 15 has given me and thousands his best. I play the piano - since 9 - now 84 - and I know what it takes to practice a piece over and over until it sounds like the composer wanted. I found this by accident but be assured I will listen and watch many more of his brilliance.

Это закон: пианист на концерте всегда играет без нот. Ноты отвлекают. Надо так железно знать произведение наизусть, прочувствовать, знать его каждой своей клеточкой, стать этой музыкой, вжиться в неё.
Это можно сделать только наизусть. Колоссальный труд даже в работе над небольшим произведением.... а тут КОНЦЕРТ !!! Браво!

Прошло три года. Сегодня этот Мастер уже не Саша , а Александр Малофеев-признанный Мастер пианистического искусства, один из лучших пианистов современности. Рахманинов в его исполнении один из лучших, как и тогда, три года назад. Как умел Сергей Васильевич писать ТАКУЮ РУССКУЮ МУЗЫКУ никто нам не скажет, но лучше этого концерта N2 я ничего на знаю. А как Саша Малофеев преподносит его слушателям мы слышим -прекрасно , так, что мы ,,видим’’ все, что он и хочет нам показать. Всего самого лучшего хочется пожелать этому талантливейшему музыканту.
Жуткий талант, и лицо интеллигентного парня. Мне кажется, один из людей, которые будут формировать будущее, стоит запомнить имя.
Потрясение. Какое счастье слышать такое глубокое понимание этой дивной музыки. Рахманинов и сегодняшнее молодое дарование Александр Малофеев как- будто вместе писали это ЧУДО!

I own this piece for two pianos, and I can testify that Rachmaninov’s compositions expressed his feelings throughout his era. Not only does his music carry themes, but the intricacies of the entire keyboard is his springboard of a complete masterpiece equivalent to Michael Angelo’s artistic expression, through this young beyond gifted child that Mastered Rachmaninov’s Creation!

@Maya Gavrikova - I share your joy in being proud of your heritage. The then very young artist took my breath away. I have played every single video of his that I can find on TH-cam. I just love Rachmaninoff--he's way up there on my list of Russian favourites I watch a good deal of Russian ballet, too. But I know that in Russia the people really do appreciate and support their artists. I think they actually grasp the fact that no matter how much innate talent you're born with, their artists who go on to achieve great fame and glory have put in some gruelling hard work, which while they enjoy doing it, nonetheless, it is STILL HARD WORK!! I'm entranced by Alexander Malofeev and play his videos every single night for literally hours. He's captivating to say the very least and he reaches this aging soul. I do have a wish for Alexander; namely, that Russia remain his home base. I don't like to see artists leave their respective countries on any kind of permanent basis--at least if they are being treated well. Still, I hope that Alexander travels the world over as we in other countries want to see and hear him IN PERSON. YES, the Russian people must show their generosity by sharing Alexander with us. The added plus for the Russians is that their artists are fabulous ambassadors and contribute much to international understanding.

I started watching Alexander Malofeev at the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic. I stopped watching the news and turned on Alex for 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon. My husband and I both love Alexander. I've compared him to others on TH-cam and the feeling I get from his playing is pure heaven. Thank you Alexander. You have changed my world for the better.

This is sublime. I took classical piano lessons for years, have an undergraduate degree in music, and played in numerous recitals. People often ask me why I never made a career of it, and this video really puts it in perspective: Malofeev could do more at 15 than I could have ever accomplished even with decades of study and practice. I think you're either born with it or you're not, and he clearly was. I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes in the coming years.
@ericholck3914 Well said. I also think people who are not involved in the world of classical music do not have the perspective of how few of even the great musicians don't make it to the micro elite level of solo musicianship. It is by and far beyond 'work hard and practice.'

For starters, the bro is gifted. Secondly, he probably got in touch with the instrument as early as possible. Thirdly, he probably was in an insanely good environment to grow as a mega specialist. Fourthly, he was willing to commit with everything he had. It is unfair to compare yourself to such individuals, give yourself a bit of slack!
Embrace your own talents and develop your skills. Uniqueness > being the best. I've been taking piano lessons for like 12 years now and still can't play a single full classical piano song. Though I know where I'm heading. Good things take time and progress is never lineair. Keep your head up king.

У меня, к сожалению, нет музыкального образования! Но, разве Сергей Рахманинов не создавал свои невероятные произведения, чтобы чувствовать душой, сердцем? Довелось слышать этот концерт в исполнении Мацуева. Как подалась вперёд после первых аккордов, так и очнулась под шквал аплодисментов. Слава России, рождающей таких гениев! И Сашенька среди них!
Смотрю уже неделю у меня одной такое ощущение присутствие Ангела Света мира покоя и чего то грандиозного впереди.Россия жива слава Богу..И какой чудный оркестр все молодые красивые талантливые и такие современные.Браво!

With ,six and half years of difference mu princess arrived...during their toddler childhood, she was happy and was enside a ball of cristal passing for the concerts, the music school, the music teachers, her brother playing home the came the Youth Orquestra and the same happened until her 6/7 years old, where she wasked when she was going to the music school!!!

It's being a fantastic journey... the boy made his studies, but choose something different for the University. The girl excellent grades in regular school and also in music school...and resident cellist on the Youth Orquestra that her brother helped to create... now, school is almost ended but not for her ... a all week to prepare a one hour Youth Orquestra presentation...they are training since January but only once a week... the musics were well chosen...

Russia alone seems to be able to produce such children of the world of music; their talents at the piano are unsurpassed. This boy practices 12 hours a day I understand. He interprets Rach with such passion.
He stated in an interview that he can sometimes practice 8, 10, even 12 hours, however schooling and concerts don't always allow that. He truly is dedicated to his love of the piano and music, thank goodness for us!
Perhaps is that Russia is the ONLY country in the world, with a SOUL !

I can’t stop viewing this delightful and flawless performance. Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto 1 has always been my favorite, but his performance of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 2 is now tied for 1st place with me.

Using sheet music is cringy and unprofessional for a soloist, if you're not even sure where you are in a piece you don't deserve to take the concert stage imo (most good pianists have a lot more than 40 mins memorised, I'm a terrible amature and I can do an hour, check Lang Lang, he can play for 50 hours from memory, no repeats!)
