What I love about Jon: First his excellent soulful playing and then not being a guitar brand snob. Now Fenders and Gibsons are nice guitars and I am happy to have two examples (second hand for a very cheap price), but I would never pay for new ones as I am just a bedroom player. I also have one second hand HB (SC 450 plus), which is also a nice guitar for the little money I payed. Now for poor people in western countries these budget brands are a great opportunity, for poor people in 3rd world countries even HB sadly is still too expensive. Cheers, Jon!

Sounds amazing Jon. The guys at HB have really got their act together. I worked with Red Meranti wood way back in the day, they use it for things like Boat and Trailer Decking, it is a very dense hardwood that will last a lifetime and using it for a Guitar in that price range is just fantastic. You really played a blinder on this Jon. It was just perfect. I have the 2016 version of this and I absolutely love it. In saying that they have made some decent upgrades to this since my version. Better pickups, and split coil. I upgraded mine with Probuckers and installed a duesemberg trem which works wonderfully. Otherwise the setup was top class, the finish and playability was spot on. Hi Jonathan, I love so much your song played at start , awesome. Also the play for demoing the neck position, I could close my eyes and fly high with angels. Thank you for your music. About the guitar, yes HB have made lot of progress in quality over a decade, my HB35 from 2015 is awful while my 2023 Strat anniversary is perfect. About that HB SG, beautiful sound but the 3 pieces body with different colors is not my taste. I used to have a brand new Gibson SG Std 2013 with 57pickups that I sold , replaced by a used Gibson SG Std 2008 with 490 pickups that I better link with.

I second the sentiments of another commenter, that the SG is not my cut of tea etc. However, upon listening to Jon play, the instrument could have been just about anything, e.g. a Superstrat of sorts. 😅 Thanks Jon for the demo! HB really ought to send you a freebie guitar or two for these videos or giveaways. You always make them sound so very good.
Jon, I own an older version of this very model and it has been my daily driver for years. Always plugged in ready to grab next to my desk. Mine has no coil split but is otherwise the same AFAIK. Best value for the money. Does Rock and Blues and Jazz. Even Funk. Double cuts are no rock-only guitars, even though their appearance on stage might suggest so.

Jon, this style guitar never really grabbed me much, I have never desired one and still don't. I mostly associate Angus or Tony with the SG style and I have enjoyed their music for a long time now. This guitar doesn't suit you well, though you made it sound like a million bucks as you always do! Thanks for the great review you always do😊
If the Harley Benton people are reading this, please update the lefty DC line. We're still stuck on the "Vintage Series" with the old shape and lack of features found in the Gotoh series or other more modern updates found in the right handed models.

The strap button location on SG guitars irritates me. I never consider them because of how they hang on a strap. Maybe this Harley Benton will feel more familiar and hang like a Les Paul?! I’d love to try this.

Yes, like you I like the Harley Bentons a lot ... I have 4 different - and if I can afford it, sure I'l have another one ... Now as a retired old musician - I have to be very careful how I spend money ... And most of what there is out there are out of reach for me ....
Mmmm ... those extra frets and the asymetric cuts are pure ESP/LTD Viper Series perfect mods to the original Gibson SG ... I sold my LTD Viper ... but now I'm gonna get this one for sure ¡¡¡
That’s a good looking guitar and sounds good, However Gibson SG is one of the most affordable Gibson models especially if you do your homework and buy a well kept example.
I have a Gibson SG Std. Ltd Ed with case I got for $800.00 USD at an estate sale. It is worth at minimum 3 times the money. The owner passed away before he got a chance to play it so it is in brand new condition. I then sold my PRS SE and to reimburse me for half of it. That is how I got a guitar I could never afford.
I've been looking at it for a long time, too. What's always held me back is the lack of uniformity in the wood color you can see under the varnish. Black pieces of wood and white pieces of wood, it's ugly!
Jon - just seen this review today - on the basis of what you presented, I decided to order one. Not possible - this is no longer available. They have the DC Custom II - which has no coil split, a dreadful graphic on the headstock, and the contouring, of the body, in the website photos looks different, to the one you have shown and played for us. From the back, it looks like a thick (un SG like) slab of wood. What a disappointment.

The DC is 24 frets...the SCs are 22frets
