  • Stevie the Wonder Duckie needs a wheelchair.
Stevie is our blind duck, and he has a somewhat lame foot. In order to help him move around easier, we decided to make him a duck wheelchair. This wheelchair is mainly for use inside. In this first video, I make the wheelchair. Don't miss part 2 next week, where I have some improvements to make.
    We have swag! shop.nuweblarehomestead.com/
Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert. We (try to) grow our own food with our desert garden, we raise chickens and ducks for eggs, and we build the things we need. Homesteading in the harsh Arizona climate is not easy, but we are learning how to use the resources we have at hand to accomplish our goals. We're a South African-American family, so we occasionally share recipes for South African dishes.

I could really use a shopping list and cutting measurements if available.

Hey Angel! I don't really have a measurements list, since I basically measured Stevie and then cut up the PVC pipes dependent on his measurements. Basically, I measured about 2 inches wider than him, and about 4 inches longer, and then measured from his foot to the top of his body for the height, subtracting the height of the wheels. The wheels themselves are just casters that I got at my local hardware store that looked like they'd do the job. I bought some PVC Ts and elbow joints and roughly measured how much pipe would go into them, cut my 1/2 inch PVC pipes to fit each section, and put it all together. Then I got lawn chair webbing and very roughly measured it to fit under him while mostly supporting him. The last thing I got was some extra strong velcro to hold the lawn webbing together.
      To sum up, you'll need:
      1. Probably about 3 to 4 feet of 1/2 inch PVC pipe
      2. 4x PVC elbows
      3. 6x PVC tees
      4. 4x PVC caps
      5. 4x caster wheels
      6. Lawn chair webbing
      7. Velco strips with glue backing
      8. Some screws

Thank you for making this video! I'm going to do this for my duck who was born with a deformed leg and has been hopping around on the other.

Can you leave a description of the supplies used? The sizes of the pvc too. I have a crippled duck who I need to make one of these for.

The PVC pipe was 1/2 inch, and I just used a couple T and elbow pieces. The green stuff is actually for deck chairs. I got everything at my local hardware store: small screws, velcro strips, wheels, etc.

@@NuweBlareHomestead do you have any measurements that I could use for the length of the straight pieces?

@@davidst.laurent2631 I don't have exact measurements, I just measured them so that they were about the length of the duck.
