    It's great to see Ganzo constantly improving & tweaking their product.
    It's a real shame Ganzo doesn't recognize what a great reviewer does for their sales

      I agree on both points and want to add a third:
      It's a real GREAT shame that they don't hire some designers to make some original designs of their own. They have the production stills so it's time to design for themselves.

      Yep I couldn't agree more, & no ones picked up on my pocket clip idea where it would be able to fit flush in to the handle when not in use & then slide out when needed

    I like it when you compare sizes with better known knives, gives you a better idea than just measurements. Thanks, Luc.

      I guess I don't do it very often because I really dislike watching some reviewers who go on and on showing 5 or 6 or more different knives to compare the size. Usually, it sounds like they are showing off about all the expensive knives that they have, and that turns me off to the idea. But, you are right. For the main group of people who watch my videos, there are a few knives that most of them are somewhat familiar with. I do make a point of telling people the size of my hands on almost every video - and that helps at least a little bit.

    I have one of these on order.
    I've always had a good experience with Ganzo, even back when they were making the axis lock while Benchmade's patent existed. They make quality products, at a very reasonable price.

    Thanks for the review. I believe the differences in the G versus F are actually changes they made before they changed the model number. I bought a G740 about a year ago (thanks partly to your review), and it has all of the changes you mentioned on the F740. Skeletonized liners, more belly, shorter slot for the lock mechanism.
    Great videos. Keep up the good work. Please review more knives in the 740's size category!

      I used my G740 last summer more than any other Ganzo knife when I was out camping. From now on it will be my F740 - it's such a workhorse of a knife.

    • @karlizen4990
      @karlizen4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just love this Ganzo, such a perfect blade shape, reminds me of the RAT1 and Shirogorov blades. But for 440c, this long of a blade, and axis lock, how can you beat the value? The RAT1 uses Aus-8, has shorter blade, has the blade shifted north of the handle which I don't like, and is $29. This Ganzo was $19 shipped to me. This is bordering on ridiculous value. I'm fighting hard to stop myself from ordering their entire knife line and selling all my Kershaws.

    Thanks Jake.
    I really appreciate those close up pictures you take, and show us. Those are nice!
    So no signs of this lock-bar going in any deeper, than on the G740, huh?

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, not on these ones. But then the lockbar is deep enough on the G740 - deeper than the G71x , and G72x knives.
      By the time they were doing the G73x versions of knives with the axis lock most of them had the lock rest deeper on the tang. BUT, even on the G712 (and the other low # ones) they ALL passed my spine whack tests. And I tested then HARD. I never had a failure like a few reviewers complained about. I think the odd bad knife lock way back then was the exception, and not common at all. (I have had over 150 G7xx and never Ganzo's go through my hands and I tested almost all of them that way and none failed.)

    Got my F740 this week from Amazon. Another damned tightest Axis lock I've owned most likely due to the shorter travel distance of the lock and stiffer spring tension to safely handle a bigger blade.
    I have to agree with you about "too many axis locks" on Ganzos. This would be an equally good non-axis lock knife. Why must we always be whipping out and whipping close our knives? As for the handle, I wish it was more textured as well as lighter. Such a heavy and large knife clipped to either front pocket is going to invite a few "Is that a Ganzo, or are you just happy to see me?"

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I am happy to see you, or at least your comments :)
      Did you see my video on how to make an axis lock a bit softer? It shouldn't be necessary, but is it good to know that it isn't hard to make the spring a bit softer.
      I am totally with you - there is a fascination in the knife enthusiast world with how fast you can whip that blade out of it's sheath. Men need to learn that slow and easy is just fine too.

    Really enjoy your channel and I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with us!😀
    Too bad Ganzo has cut you out of the loop. Their loss. Perhaps, just wondering, could it have anything to do with the new Canadian law on imports with one hand openings knives? 🤔
    Also, just wondering what you thought about this style being my first Ganzo. I will be using it for hiking, meal preparation on the trail and such.
    Although it's big, relative to other Ganzo Knives, I need something that is NOT too aggressive appearing to be used where the others in a public park. The use of knives is permitted,but "weapons" are banned. I know, try to find a way to make sense of the rules.🙄
    Thanks again for your time!😎

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge

      Thanks for watching.
      No it had nothing to do with the Canada Border Services Agency and their miss-application of the law (The law has not changed a single bit in the last decades - it's all just policy of the CBSA, not a law change) Ganzo dropped reviewers before the recent clampdown by CBSA. The rules are simple, you can carry just about any knife, but not push daggers or butterfly knives. It it is sold at bladescanada.ca then you know it is legal in Canada - just a rough rule of thumb to use since they probably have the largest selection of knives of any Canadian store.

      You have big hands, mine aren't that big. It is 440C, which is definitely in the budget category these days. Lee over at LuVThemKnives has had 5 Ganzo's with 440C tested in USA for hardness and they all are 58 or higher. 58 is an ideal score for 440C. Just got this knife. Came with moderate sharpening. It's random with Ganzo.
    The size of that blade choil isn't bad but the shape of it does cut your finger sneakily.
    I didn't notice it cut mine but it bears mentioning I got butter-soft skin.
    The lock and clip are very stiff initially. Could hardly operate one-hand at first.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      People with soft skin will indeed often find the type of lock that is on this knife to be troublesome until they get used to it.
      Also, it is common for these Ganzo axis locks to be too stiff. I have a video on how to make them softer. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/NVH89nqnj9Y/w-d-xo.html

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problems. In 2016 I had a dozen packages stopped by CBSA (10 seized) and even then when I did the math I was still saving a LOT of money buying from China. In 2017 have had only 2 packages stopped and seized.
      I factor in the risk, and while is sucks (emotionally) to have CBSA take a knife or two, it really isn't a big deal when I do the $ math as it is still a LOT cheaper than trying to buy all those knives from vendors who already have them in Canada. No to mention the fact that there are VERY few Ganzo knives in Canada to be bought. ( a lot of the Ganzo knives that are on Amazon.CA are imported per order so they have exactly the same risk as buying from GearBest except they cost more - the one exception is "EDC Vault" on Amazon.CA the knives he sells are ALREADY in Canada so shipping is FAST and they will never be able to be confiscated by CBSA

    No more dual bronze washer on any model ? My last ganzo was the 7522 with ball bearing.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the washers get installed pretty much at random, either one bronze and one nylon or two bronze. Out of the WAY over 100 Ganzo's I have had in my hands I have not seen one with 2 nylon. But even within the same model of knife, I have seen them both ways.
      In my use I have come to LIKE the modern white washers.

      I think it is largely random what washers you get though it is rare to get 2 white washers it isn't all that rare to get two bronze ones. I have had about 150 Ganzo G7xx and F7xx (and now FB7xx) series knives through my hands in the last couple of years.

    Jake be careful my 740 closed on first spine wack I'm seeing numorus video's with the 720 and other models doing the same thing. Guy's are grinding blade stock for axis bar to move forward and a true lock up.it's to bad because the the 720 is a nice knife.ganzo get it together !! When I got the bk 275 adamas in my hands still haven't wiped the smile off my face love it ! Sorry ganzo see you on the other side.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What should I be careful of?
      I had done MANY very HARD spine whack tests on my axis lock Ganzo's and they all passed with not a single failure. PLUS, I never trust any lock on a knife. I use a knife as though it were a slip joint knife - keeps me safe no matter what.

    • @karlizen4990
      @karlizen4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. The Ganzo with the most tenuous axis lock-up is the G711 (discontinued), it's the one that looks like a BM Bob Lum mini-onslaught. I got one, looked at the lock-up and indeed it is a very shallow axis lock-up, earlier than all my other Ganzos. A thought started in my head going 'OH NOES! This lock is gonna fail on me when I'm cutting packages and I'm gonna lose my fingers! I must talk shit about it on the internets and get rid of this knife at once!'. But then, I figured since it was cheap I might as well test the lock by spine-whacking a couple of my old hardcover textbooks I have lying around. I could not, for the life of me get the lock to disengage. After working up a sweat and hurting my hand, I thought to myself, 'were these tests even necessary? there's literally no way in hell I'll use this knife in that hard of a situation; I'm not gonna bring a 3" Ganzo to use as my only wood-chopping knife, unless I'm retarded'. Then I chuckled to myself thinking about all the naysayers and knife-snobs on the internet nitpicking every little theoretical detail about a knife and not doing anywhere close to that much supposed 'hard work'.

    • @karlizen4990
      @karlizen4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Adamas is so damn ugly, not to mention overpriced... and heavy.. Most simpletons attribute a knife's weight as the sole attribute indicating 'hard-useness' and that is just too naive. You could get a Cold Steel HoldOut 2 for half the price, with a better lock, better steel, better grind, and a lighter knife.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maggie, no worries, I am careful with knives. I have done extensive spine whack tests on my Ganzo's and none have failed for me. I do the test in a safe way. If it ever happens that I come across one that fails then I will make sure not to whack the back of my knife while I am using it....
      I have had over 60 Ganzo knives with axis locks and NONE of them failed my HARD spine whack tests.
      I grew up using slip joint and friction folders. So I learned how to use a knife that can close if there is pressure on the spine. So I don't use my knifes that way. I put pressure on the side that is designed to cut and that pressure keeps the blade open.

    what is the difference between the ganzo f720 and the ganzo g720

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be doing a video on that, once I get my F720. BUT, the main differences between the G and F series is some skeletonizing for lighter weight in the F series, and the F series that have axis locks have a more optimized lock - just as seen in this video. The other differences are unique to each model so I won't know until I get my F720 in hand.

    In response to your comment about the inspiration for the design for this knife. Here's my thoughts, not being any kind of an expert.🙄
    Maybe just a little bit of a stretch, but the size and shape of the blade and handle are extremely similar to the ▪ "ESEE Knives Avispa Stonewash 5" Closed Framelock 🔸
    j
    However, the Esse is lighter and does not have the Axis lock.
    Do you think this may have been the inspiration for this design?
    Thank You!😀 Really like the Channel!

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. That might be the inspiration. Ganzo has been known to use existing knives that are selling well to essentially copy. They did that for their whole history until very recently. Their newest line of knives are much more unique. In folders the models that start with "FH" and then several numbers are of this new sort, they also switched to using D2 instead of 440C - I like either steel, each has their own strengths, but D2 is what is getting the hype factor these days so they jump on that bandwagon..

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. Sometimes you get two bronze washers, sometimes you get one bronze and one white nylon washer.
      I do LIKE the new era white nylon washers - they offer smooth action and good lateral support.

    Any idea where to get the g740 right now with the new bill?

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "with the new bill"? If you are Canadian I guess you are talking about CBSA taking knives? Well I still buy as many knives and as many kinds of knives as I want from overseas. I refuse to let CBSA bully me. I have had about 14 knives come into Canada since they put out that memorandum about stopping pretty much all folding knives, and 2 knives taken away from me. (pretty much the same rate of confiscation as I had in previous years - they had weird rules that go beyond our laws for a long time.) They can only stop so many knives, they are way to busy to get more than a small minority of the knives coming in. In fact, if we all keep on buying knives like we always have then they won't win. Refuse to be bullied by CBSA.
      If you want to buy a G740 inside Canada, well there is no place that I know of. AND, you will want the F740, it is the new version of this knife. Exactly the same dimensions and materials, but it is a bit lighter because they have skeletonized the liners a bit.
      www.gearbest.com/Ganzo-F740-_gear/?lkid=13254560
      Just don't buy more than 2 knives at a time. You want the package to stay small and the customs forms to show a low $ value - that lowers the odds of confiscation by CBSA - but it can still happen. I find it still worth the risk. A $20 knife from GearBest costs over $40 in Canada most of the time.

    I don't get it.. why do you complain about ganzo making too many knives using one of the few true ambidextrous locking systems out there...
    Other than that, I like your review.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wasn't a complaint that they make too many axis locks, at least that wasn't my intent, my intent is that I wish they would make more variety. I would like them to make this same knife in a couple of lock options. I want more choice.
      I also want more lefties (like me) to take the time and effort required become more proficient with their R hands. As a leftie I don't mind R handed liner locks or frame lock knives, I have learned to adapt and am comfortable using them. So unlike most Right handed folks, I am comfortable with almost every knife in BOTH hands. The hobby is much more fun when you get to that stage.
      Having 4 older siblings - all of whom are R handed, and growing up poor I got R handed baseball, hockey, etc sports equipment and I had no choice, if I wanted to play I had to play R handed. In retrospect, I think that is one of the best things that happened to me growing up.

    • @zioazalin
      @zioazalin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canadian Cutting Edge I'm ambidextrous (or ambi-clumsy, as I more aptly say) so I really like knives that I can easily use with either hands, so much so that I don't even buy anymore frame or liner locks, indipendently from how cool they may look.
      I want more axis locks and more back locks ;D
      And yes, I sounded too harsh in my comment, so I apologize.
      I'm not a native English speaker so I'm prone to errors...
